Next Lgbt survivor?
When and who do you think will be the next lgbt survivor? I think the next original chapter should have one. They already had david (a free character) come out so i dont think its bad if the next one is for a new chapter.
They can also go back to some of the older characters and add to their lore like david but me personally it just depends who it is. Obviously licensed characters not included
Characters i would want to be not changed: kate, jane, yun jin, zarina, adam, elodie, and felix, ace
characters i would be fine with: dwight meg claudette jake feng nea yui jonah jeff haddie mikaela
the last 3 survivors i dont like or care about so idk about them.
anyways what are your thoughts?

Hm. Thalita or Renato haven’t been confirmed either way yet, and their tome stories are just about to be released. I could see either of them.
as to existing chars, I think Yui got a mobile exclusive cosmetic which has some description hinting at a crush on a female K-pop star? Could be wrong about it though.

Probably Yui will be confirmed as lesbian, i don't know. And maybe they should add trans character to game, since we have not any of them.

I think going back and retconning a character as lgbt is a bit lazy, so if there's a new lgbt survivor introduced soon I hope it's low key introduced in their lore in a way that's hopefully natural.
That being said, Haddie's queer and my gf and that's non negociable ! /j

I think BHVR will probably try to go for Lesbian representation before they got for Trans representation.
Realistically, there are probably more Lesbian people than Trans people, it would make more sense to appeal to them more... also, it's Yui, I do not think the community has forgotten about the fully-rendered topless Yui image in the game files, it's been there for years, so clearly BHVR has something going on with Yui... O_O

agree with you

There is almost no character that would get retconned by being confirmed as LGBTQ+? Time stories are just telling more about characters backgrounds and usually not retconn stuff..
1 -
Yui is 1000% lesbian. I’ve been waiting for the confirmation for months now.

I'd love to see some trans rep, either new character or existing. Other than that, they've got a fair amount of options for giving us some more LGBT rep and an unlimited array of possibilities for new characters in that vein too, so I can't wait to see what they decide on.
David was handled really well from everything I've seen, so good reason to feel positively about it going forward!

Alright !
I'll admit I haven't read everyone's lore, so I'm just like. I wouldn't really like BHVR to do a JKR and pull a "oh yeah remember that character he's gay now" with little actual development.
I'm all for lgbt characters, just not if they're introduced only to placate people on pride month, if that makes sense. =)

i agree with you overall but is it ok to say that i would want some characters to be up to imagination while others im ok with like the survivors i choose?
1 -
I don't think any of the survivors or killers should be assigned a gender or sexuality. every player should decide for himself how he plays his character.
23 -
I believe Felix was confirmed to have a wife if I'm remembering correctly? There may be another couple survivors in a similar boat. Otherwise, all others should be fair game. But I kinda prefer it that way, leave it up to the imagination of the players. A couple of lore updates here or there that reveal a partner of some kind in their backstory are fine, but we don't need to have a full identity profile on every character.
Yui would seem the most natural to me, as her backstory is already primed for the inclusion of a female romance in there at some point.
I fear that including a new trans character could lean too much into stereotypes and promote a lot of trolling. Maybe an androgynous character who's low-key non-binary would be the better approach.
1 -
fair fair i respect that honesty
3 -
This is fair, but lore is optional. You don't have to read the tome entries.
But where lore exists, things like this are going to crop up eventually. If some characters have confirmed heterosexual partners, it's only fair to include some non-heteronormative as well.
As long as it's not overdone, like I said, giving a confirmed identity to every character, it's fine.

I completely agree! They did it with David in a tome story, and they even tied it to previous backstory so it really didn’t feel out of place but as a continuation. And I assume/hope they will do this for any future reveals as well.
Sure, I actually feel the same. But we don’t really have a say in who they will write what about, they are BHVRs characters after all!
if it’s in bad faith and contradicting existing lore I am the first to criticize them for that though!
2 -
Fair enough mentality. Though pronouns have been used since release and (parts) of the sexuality of characters were mentioned in backstories since Nurses introduction. So now we are here and LGBTQ+ characters won’t get excluded. These are BHVRs characters, and they are not avatars but complete characters on their own, with personalities, backstories, lives, hobbies, jobs, character traits, and relationships and genders and everything.

Felix has a wife with whom he expects a child, yeah. Going to be a father was a huge part of his release lore and how he ended up in the fog and all.
i did make a list a long time ago in another of these threads, I guess i should get all of them (not that you asked for it, I just felt like redoing that):
Nurse has had a husband and she lost herself completely after his death.
Oni must have had children (at least one son) since Rin is his direct descendant.
Legions Frank and Julie didn’t leave out anything for our imagination in their tome story and are definitely a thing.
Ace is described as a womanizer in some of his cosmetic descriptions.
David has had a girlfriend at some point - this is explained in his ‚coming-out Story‘ as something he tried as he/his parents wouldn’t accept him how he actually is.
Not to mention any licensed characters with confirmed gender/sexuality in their source material.
also plenty of heterosexual characters mentioned in the various backstories as many parents being directly referred to as mother and father etc.
some interesting tidbits:
Twins (Charlotte and Victor) are conjoined twins - which are pretty much confirmed to have the same biological sex as far as I am aware - maybe an oversight on the writers part, or maybe one of them is trans?
Yui has had a partner mentioned by name in her tome story - though you cant really assume the gender by the mentioned Japanese name - it’s pretty much the only romantical relationship mentioned in lore that’s completely open for interpretation. Also the previously mentioned mobile exclusive that is talking about a crush on a female celebrity.

Yeah thank you for understanding!

While i think some existing survivors would be fine if they were revealed homosexual, i dont know how it would work if they were turned trans

I’d be very interested to know whether a character’s sexuality/religion/ethnicity etc prior to being but into the realm by the entity still affects them (my understanding is they’re in a perpetual state of a kind of limbo by the entity where they endure sacrifice/death and recovered to keep repeating. I’d be keen on seeing characters ongoing lore - whilst around the campfire, how do they get on with each other - being attracted to or forming relationships for example: have their prior beliefs (such as religions etc) been altered or reframed with their own understanding (would a Christian believe they’re in hell or purgatory? Would a Hindu believe they’re in a reincarnation?) and so on.
In regards to sexuality in this topic, whatever a prior orientation (even someone who was hetero and married) they could have their thoughts and belief systems and orientations change based on their current experiences in the game.

As long as its not an already existing character ill be fine with it *cough david*. tho Renato and his sis are new so itll be fine

Yui is def my pick. Would be so happy if she got the representation although I would be so sad if that made her get less cosmetics as a result. David's cosmetic pool has gotten dryer than usual and it's a little suspicious.

You make a good point on Twins. I considered maybe that Charlotte or Victor may be trans, however... I think lore wise that their being so strangely conjoined Twins is part of the reason everyone thought their mother was a witch. Like conjoined twins just can't be a boy and a girl, it doesn't work that way... but if their mother was a witch? The townspeople thought that their mother evil and her master the Devil would totally create an abomination like Charlotte and Victor. Burn the witch!
So that leaves you with the question of what kind of world did Charlotte and Victor come from? Was it a world where the supernatural does exist and witches that commune with Satan exist (whether their mother actually did or not is irrelevant) are 100% verifiable, or is it more like our world where some believe that kind of thing exists, but nobody can give definitive proof?
1 -
I'm pretty sure they overlooked the Twins thing. Kind of like the crows in Chile with the Artist. They could end out using their mistake to make one trans so then it looks like they meant to do that. 😂
2 -
The Silence of the Lambs Chapter
2 killers
1 survivor
2 -
I'm pretty sure the crows in chile thing was a deliberate choice as it's been well established already that they're servants of the entity, in fact they're not even natural crows from that world.
0 -
I mean. I guess at that time even in our world it wouldn’t be surprising for the accusation when a woman got normal conjoined twins. And now that I think about it more, the mother gave the names and used them in Charlottes memories right? so it’s probably safe to assume it’s just an oversight or it’s a world different from ours where conjoined twins just can be of different sex. Also Victor died of a very young age where he probably wasn’t aware of what being trans would actually mean, even if they experienced gender dysphoria?
1 -
yeah never understood that critic, it is very clear that it was the entity manipulating her
1 -
Completely missing the point of Buffalo Bill I guess?
The Horror genre has always had heavy ties with sexuality, just think about he first slasher movies, it has almost always been about a group of hormon steered teens that rather have sex in a secluded area than stay in a group together when there is a mass murderer running around killing their friends. Or look at Hellraiser lol.
thing is, the argument of sexuality not mattering in a horror game kind of only comes up when it’s about anything but heterosexuality? 🤔

Wow, is nice to see all positive comments so far in the discussion. Don't mind me, just keep going!

Yes! It’s very nice to see
though it only is a matter of time…
and I have live footage of mods reading this threads topic because they know whats gonna go down:
(edit: would love to be proven wrong on this)

What do you mean? He was a man that made a skin suit out of women to become a woman.
0 -
Yes, but he wasn’t actually trans. It’s been a long time since I have seen the movie so maybe they didn’t make it clear enough, but it’s explained well in the book! Buffalo Bill is not representative of the LGBT community.

Best candidate right here

This is not usually an area I hold opinions on, but...
From a purely narrative POV, I think it'd be most effective to take a character whose gender we already assume/confirmed, and have them transition/start transitioning with a future tome.
Again, this isn't really a topic I'm equipped to speak on, but I'd imagine people would find a character more relatable if they were transitioning in-game in real time. A character who comes into the game already transitioned wouldn't pack the same punch.
Similarly, I'd be way more interested in seeing a character exploring their sexuality during a tome, only to later decide where they stand.
I'm not big into the game's lore, so none of it really effects me. I'm a Yui main tho, and was surprised to see so many people here talking about her being lesbain--I never thought about her sexuality. It would be really intriguing for me to see that sexuality explored from it's early stages, rather than immediately jumping to confirming one way or another.
1 -
every survivor in the game can be gay for all i care. i just dont see why its such a big deal to some people
3 -
It’s a big deal because heterosexuality is represented everywhere since ever in the media and anything LGBTQ+ has been pretty much excluded or tokenized or just badly represented and even now when we get to more representation it’s mostly being talked down.
also we are all individuals, different themes and topics are important to each of us and that’s ✨okay✨

No lol

Hey everyone - I removed a few posts that were outside of the scope of this thread.
Let's please keep this discussion civil and respectful going forward, as well as make sure that it's focused on the game. There's no need to bring celebrities or real-world politics into this discussion.
Thank you!

Yeah, my bad its also been awhile since I seen the movie never read the book.
After looking it it up
"Both the novel and film depict Gumb as hating his own identity, though multiple characters state that Gumb is not transsexual."
"Gumb wants to become a woman—or at least believes he does—but repeatedly fails to qualify for gender reassignment surgery."
He kills women so he can skin them and create a "woman suit" for himself, completing his "transformation".
1 -
Yes lol
luckily we know where the devs stand on this topic. Although they won’t just go and create any characters that fit any LGBTQ+ checkmate (which would be a wrong approach), they are pro representation ✨
0 -
honestly good point. respect
3 -
Why would you say that lmao
0 -
I prefer they leave it open to interpretation, and people can headcanon whatever they like. That includes David.
Me personally, I just assume most characters are bi until stated otherwise because that fits my agenda.
3 -
Damn unfortunately every character has been assigned one since June 2016 when pronouns were used in their character bios so I fear it's a bit late for that.
3 -
This thread has been surprisingly tame, considering others of a similar nature.
5 -
Weird isn't? Usually every thread like this ends up the same way, I'm surprised
2 -
This is actually an interesting thought!
while it could work for some characters, as their childhood/time before transition might have just not been talked about yet for some characters it’s really not fitting eg Claudette who we already know from tome story as a little child, or Zarina who has had her whole identity crisis and self acceptance arc as Karina and while they could write them as trans I kinda feel like it would feel like a retconn?
