I'm a new player, and survivor feels almost impossible.
What is with this game and making it so freaking difficult to survive a game if you have no friends to play with? If 1 survivor dies too early in the game, say 4 gens, then you might as well just give up because it takes no time at all for the killer to patrol and too much time to finish the rest of the gens as 3 survivors. Only time I see it working is if 1 survivor is some god at running away and even then it's super slim because we're not all pros. Killer I have no issues winning and losing games every now and then, but man after playing survivor I almost feel bad playing killer. I feel there's lots of players like me who are newer at this game and it just seems ridiculous how hard it is when just 1 player is fairly new. Aka, scared of the killer so messes up running away and gets tunneled out of the game really early.

New players have it hard overall the most, the game is not friendly towards new players.
First, most of the content is locked behind very large grind or paywall. While each character isn't expensive on their own imo, it adds up in large if you need like 3 perks, each from different character and each takes like 100 hours to unlock or you have to pay 10$ to unlock it, etc.
Second, the game can be overhelming for people who don't know all the perks, mechanics, powers, maps, etc. You will easily lose just by the fact you will not play effectively around things.
Don't worry, you can get behind this Solo Survivor new player hell but you will have to spend XXX hours of learning / playing. It's not casualy friendly game imo.

It's true, 1 weak link can lose you the game, even if you're a seasoned player. That's just the nature of asymmetrical games, unfortunately.

Well, i would argue no current popular pvp game is really beginner or casual friendly.
DBD even less because of a lack of baby queue and a working matchmaking.

Survivor has it really rough when you're starting out. You have a lot of things to learn, and everything that makes killers stronger (wether strats of buffs) are disproportionately harsher on newer players.
Same, you have to be quite dedicated and play regularly to get better. I have nearly 400h in the game, but I can't play very often because of job+studies+time-consuming hobbies, so I'm still pretty bad at it.
Tie your ass to your chair for a good while and you'll probably get better, and from there, have slightly better teammates.
Good luck !

i appreciate that instead of trying to actually figure out a new game and learning how to play you immediately run to the forums to complain about how hard survivor is.
you're going to fit right in.

It's not about learning how to play lmfao, it's about how vastly unbalanced the game is when you take into consideration newer players for both killers and survivors. You can be an extremely good survivor (I've seen them) but not even they can carry a game with three others, nor should they be expected to. The game should at least give more tools to newer players to somehow not be a burden on the entire team because as it stands, any single player dies too early in the match the game is pretty much automatically lost. Also, what the heck is with some killers just not hooking at all? Again, the mechanics of the game itself makes survivors without friends seem impossible. A killer can literally just down all of you in a game, refuse to hook, and let you all die on the floor. What sort of stupid mechanic is that? The game doesn't even let survivors recover without some perk, so you're just forced to sit on the floor and die if nobody picks you up. Then killer camps your downed body so he can just down the other survivors.

Solo survivor is by far the hardest role in the game. Nothing you can do about it.

It's actually kind of amazing that as many survivors make it past the early game learning curve as do. If it wasn't for things like Twitch convincing newer players that the game can be a lot of fun I suspect it would have died already.
Here's my post from when I was 30 hours into the game: https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/342870/noob-thoughts-the-balance-is-a-joke-right/p1
Overall, the game improves, but it takes a long time before it comes anywhere close to feeling 'fair' (it doesn't help that lots of commenters will dismiss you if your hours aren't in the 4 digits).

I love your post because you break it down in a way I didn’t originally think of.
Killer you get so many tools handed to you at the start. - You know where hooks are, gens, visual ques for any mistakes, scratch marks, blood trails and loud grunting noises, and I’ll include the fact you literally don’t have to hook survivors. I’ve lost multiple games as survivor where the killer didn’t hook, he just would down and lure survivors and only hook when multiple of us are downed.
Survivor - you don’t know where gens are, you can’t even see your fellow survivors without perks, constant skill checks on gens, you get audio and visual que when killer is close but that’s about it when you’re starting out.

Hard and bad are two separate things, something dbd players don't understand.

Sorry to hear you're having a rough time of it, it's not easy for new survs.
I'm barely average myself but my beginner days in dbd as surv were bloody awful.
Top tips, run windows of opportunity if you have it, if not then get kate denson asap. It's so useful in chase.
Play killer a bit. Killer is pretty easy to start with and when your mmr with that climbs and you get hard games you can learn a lot from what survivors do and how they counter you that'll help you heaps with your survivor game.
Try not to care, easier said than done I know and nobody likes to lose, but surv can be a frustrating role if your aim is to survive as much as possible. I go into each match assuming I'm going to die and look on it as practice. I enjoy it more that way, plus sacrificing myself to get another surv out is kinda rewarding.
Don't avoid chases. A lot of newer players play stealthy and this slows down their skill improvement. Treat some games as chase practice. Attract killers attention and aim to keep the chase going as long as possible.
SWF. Hands down the best thing to help, experienced survs can give you good advice and there is a lot to learn, over 30 unique killers all with their own unique mechanics. I'd be happy to play with you if you like, got a little gaming discord with some other dbd buddies so could help you out 😊

Those 2 being separate things also mean something can be both at once, because they dont contradict each other.

Stop worrying about wins and losses. Try and put yourself in the position where you're the one getting chased every game and work on getting better at that. It's the best part of being a survivor so once you become competent at looping, you'll find you can enjoy most games even if you don't win them all. As an added bonus, you'll start escaping way more often as you get better.
1 -
What do you expect? If you and/or your team is playing bad, you aren't supposed to win. Thing is, you will get better. Most likely.
What i do get is when MMR isn't working at certain times. 200 hours survs vs. 8k hours killer, or vice versa isn't really fair.
That's why i still think: Get rid of MMR and just ad a ~200hs noob protection for both sides.

well survivors are a little but more expendable. Don't be so hard on yourself... you think people in Mortal Kombat learn how to play the game in a few days? Not only that but your said yourself that your making mistakes... so don't worry too much.

Yes, survivor is difficult when you begin. More difficult than killer.
After all, any idiot can find clueless survivors and smash them M1-style.
With time, the balance changes : survivors learn the ropes, to loop, to be unpredictable, to stealth, to save, ...
While killers need to actually learn their powers, to track, to manage the very little time they have, ...
One very important thing, since you begin : whatever side you prefer, play both roles. (Know your enemy.) It'll make you a better player.

Honestly solo survivor is a pain, it's getting even worse these days as many killers adopt strategies "to beat hardcore swf" while severly overestimating the number of hardcore swf they actually go against.
Anyways here's my advice: don't bother trying to win, you won't. Just pick challenges in the tomes and try to get those done, or try to get a nice chase. I'm not saying throw the game, bc obviously that will get you nowhere, but just don't go in a game thinking you're going to escape. Even when you get in higher MMR you won't be doing much winning as a solo q survivor if your idea of winning is escaping. Just try to have fun, I know it doesn't mean much but if we didn't manage to do that the game probably would have died a while ago. This isn't a competitive game, you don't need to win (and if that's your goal you're probably going to make yourself miserable.)

You are no new player.

Read up on killers.
Watch Youtube videos on looping.

I recently got out of a game where my entire team got all 5 gens done and you know what happened? I got hit by a basic attack then instant killed on the ground with the killer's execution. All that time I spent working on gens, running away from the killer (I escaped him 2x) and at the very end of the game, I make a single mistake by assuming I can take 2 hits and instead get instant murdered. This is the type of stuff I'm talking about, it's not even a question if the game is balanced because it isn't. It feels obvious to me that if you play killer, most of your games will be chill with a plethora of game mechanics to assist you. Survivor, apparently to even have a decent shot at surviving I've got to get like 5 characters up to max level and learn to play for 1000hrs. The built in mechanics to help you out at lower levels is just non-existent. I don't have 1000000 points to spend on the best addons. I don't have the best perks. Yet I still don't see where gens are on my map, I don't see where pallets are (I finally got that perk though now, but why is it even a perk when killer gets to see everything automatically?) I don't get to see a trail the killer leaves when I'm trying to run away so he just tricks me and runs backwards or something, dead. Killer sees everything, gens, hooks, where I'm at when trying to run away, visual ques if I mess up etc. I get there's skill involved, just seems there's an unbalanced amount required for a survivor.

I purchased the game in early March so I'd consider myself fairly new.
I'm watching YouTube videos now etc so more versed in the terminology you guys use to describe certain things.

Thanks, I've got no friends in this game but my steam name is edeneclipse, I'll add your discord if you post.

You got caught with your pants down because you assumed you had a easy escape......first thing I learned when I started playing....don't assume ANYTHING.
Also trust me Killer may be "Easier" but it's more stressful then Survivor. As Survivor any mistakes you make can be covered by your fellow Survivors in the trial while Killer one mistake is multiplied by 4. A small miscalculation of where Survivors might be could mean a full loss.
Unlike Survivors who are viewing things as a 3rd person view and can look over rocks and around some corners or even behind them to always keep a eye on or out for the Killer.....Killers are a First Persoj View with a very narrow field of view. Meaning a Survivor could literally be hiding under their nose because they are out of the Killers field of view.
Moonwalking takes alot of Skill and map awareness to master. A lot of tricks Killers have taken some form of skill to even do right.
Now as for all the "built in mechanics" Killers have at their disposal that is something they need. It's their job to protect the Gens from getting repaired so they must know where they are at all times. Their second job is to feed the Entity their snacks so without knowing where all the Hooks are the likelihood that they could get a Kill would be severely lowered.
Scratch Marks again goes back to the First Person field of view. Without them then Survivors could easily escape and lose the Killer in the many jungle gyms they have on every map.
As for being new...it will take time like in every online game to get the knowledge and skills to be decent. Save up shards and buy much needed perks from the Shrine. Once both gut they are unlocked for every Survivor/Killer

It should feel impossible for beginners. They can't make Killers so weak that uninformed new people just win by default.
