No Q&A anymore?
why are there no more Q&A?
Comments
-
Because the last one they had the devs, one in particular, made several comments confirming what the community already believed about them and there was massive backlash. Since then, we haven’t really gotten any.

Was that the one with the guy who said looping for 5 gens but dying means you suck at the game?
6 -
That’s the one
1 -
Haha yep! Let’s not forget that the “skills-based” matchmaking system still says that if you loop the killer for 5 gens but don’t escape that you are just as bad at the game as if you got downed within the first 5 seconds of each chase.

Last time there was a Q&A, a bunch of people misconstrued what a developer said and got pissed off about it. I can kind of see why they're hesitant to do another one any time soon.
8 -
Because they are fed up with saying SoonTM.
5 -
Community was sadly toxic about them.
devs got accused of cherry picking questions and when they did take all the most upvoted/often asked questions that they obviously weren’t able to answer community complained about that.
doesn’t help that the community twists their words like already happening in this thread.
the Matchmaking system obviously doesn’t say that you are bad at the game when you loop a killer for 5 gens and die. It’s just one game which doesn’t influence your rating that much. But if you consistently die in almost all your matches… then you are obviously doing something wrong in the sense of trying to survive which is your main objective.

I don’t see how what was said by the dev was misconstrued. The “skills-based” matchmaking system literally works exactly as described by that person in that Q&A. All this time later, this same terrible skills-based MM system is still in place and the devs continue to defend it using the same logic.

pretty sure this was the last Q&A, haven’t look into it though, otherwise, the video should be on that YT account anyways.
1 -
He was trying to say how the system doesn't care about individual wins or losses. It only cares about how you do over multiple matches. Everyone took it as "if you die at all you're terrible at the game" when really it was meant as "if you're constantly dying then you're probably doing something wrong".

i can do it! oh oh please let me do it UwU "so we can't talk about it jet, soon TM, soon TM andddd soon TM!" oh yeah "SBMM (or MMR) escape = you are the King scared & hidding Claud, Dead = you are bad Nea you just loop the killer only 5 gens and then died... weak! im disapointed! and dont forged it! soon TMMM!"
1 -
Oh man, thank you for reminding this legend comment 😂
2 -
“…was it really a skilled play?”
I dunno if this is true and I’m sure it’s not related but I heard he was fired. Lol.

I imagine that "I can't comment on that right now" for nearly every answer was getting old. I would like it if they brought back the Q&A, but only chose questions they can actually provide answers to.

Anyone else remember when one of the devs played some public matches after an interview and got insta blinded like...14 times (honestly close to that number). A couple days later insta blind flashlights were gone
Good times.

Because transparency is not a gift that exists at BHVR. There are no official stats, there are no Devs who talk to the community except to say how good they are, feedback and suggestions are mostly ignored. Just seeing the promise they made to keep the community up to date on anti-cheat measures, all the various feedback improvements they promised in one of their posts, all of this has been ignored and forgotten. BHVR doesn't have the slightest ability to communicate with their community, let alone do a Q&A

He wasn’t fired, he left BHVR (afaik in good terms completely) to join another company as Lead Game Designer (working on an Alien licensed game)

I just want to ask why they allow high ping player to start a game. Thats all. A simple question.

He said what he meant. There was zero misconstruing. They just have a horrible mmr system.
1 -
this is a question i would ask in the Q&A. i dont blame the people and you see if your ping is over 300 when you join the lobby. also that dont answer the question why the server allows ppl with ping over 300 to start a game.

Yeah it also means you lost a hockey game as well.

We as a community have proven we don't deserve Q&A's
Constant word twisting, misconstruing, people being too dumb to understand how analogies work
Too many people are just going in with the intent to use it for a way to turn every word against the devs. When you have something that is suppose to be a fun community thing and it turns into having to tripple check everything you say so you don't get backlash which is most of the time questionable at best why bother.
Most controversial things like "play Civ" or the hockey analogy are 100% correct things that the community is just to immature or childish to understand
6 -
You said all that and still didn’t explain the point they were trying to make. Why don’t you explain it so everyone understands?
0 -
Because they have no servers everywhere. I am EU player. All Middle East, North Africa, West EU, East Eu players are playing on same servers. Gosh, i even saw players from South Africa as well.
So ofcourse they have to allow high ping because they have no enough servers.

Explain what? How when you are frustrated with a game it might be a good idea to just, you know switch it up for a bit. Should honestly be common sense
Or do you mean the analogy?
The question he got was why MMR was based on kills and escapes only and he compared it to hockey where it's also the number of goals a team makes that detirmines the winner. Cause good play leads to goals/kills/escapes. There is absolutely nothing incorrect about that.
Anybody who pulled out their hockey manual and started comparing how DbD is different from hockey are not the sharpest knife in the drawer to put it nicely. Analogies never are the exact same thing. They are always based on simular things cause comparing the exact same thing to help explain something would be stupid.

Either they cherry pick questions they -can- answer and people get annoyed because they're not the questions they wanted, or they pick the questions people really WANT answered and they give non-answers because they don't know, have no plans to add something, or can't promise something that may not end up happening for certain. Honestly a lot of developer Q&As go the same way and it's pretty rare to get much actual juicy info regardless of who the developer is.
Also as abrasive an answer as the "was it really a skilled play?" was, it -did- actually make sense. If you're looking at individual games then yeah, sure, kills vs escapes seems like a terrible idea because it doesn't really measure how useful you were in a match. However, if you play 100 games, a more skilled survivor is going to overall escape more than a lesser-skilled survivor. This of course doesn't work as well if you play super-altrustically and ALWAYS go for dangerous saves and are quick to sacrifice yourself for the team, but for how most survivors play the game, it's really the best way of measuring skill in an asymetrical game like DBD.

Hmmm. I'm in there, I remember that.

What is the point of a Q&A? BHVR won't even tell us how their main rebalancing project is supposed to work. We've heard "bridge the gap between solo q and SWF, then balance survivors as a whole"..... but where are we on that timeline? Did we bridge the gap? If not, what additional steps must we take? And if we did bridge the gap, what are we doing to "balance survivors as a whole"?
Also, are killers ever going to get player experience changes, or accessibility changes? Player experience changes would be things like removing the short M1 attack bug, or fixing aim dressing so it can't steal hits. Accessibility changes would be things like an FoV slider.

They dont have to do the Q&A in a live stream. Just collect a bunch of questions each month and answer them in the dev news?
