How do you feel about stealthy teammates?

Just a random thought that popped in my head. How do you feel about survivors who avoid the killer at all costs? Like someone else is getting chased close to them but they simply hide instead of doing a gen in the same vicinity that is done more than 70% or never being willing to trade a health state/hook state to take a protect hit for you or prevent you from getting killed.

I understand that sometimes it's required to be stealthy, but what about the teammates who take it too far and the somehow never come face to face with killer?

"Like someone else is getting chased close to them but they simply hide instead of doing a gen in the same vicinity"

    ----

9 times out of 10, the killer will drop chase with them to target me, even if I'm healthy and the survivor they're chasing is injured. Yet, they won't EVER drop chase with me even if others try to bodyblock for me.

I'm NOT going to let the killer see me if I can help it.

Just keep track of where gens have popped and take the killer there so the others can work on gens in peace.

    ---- Edit

This was the match I just finished playing a few minutes ago. Feng injured? I'm healthy? Killer drops Feng and chases me. I run back into Feng, twice, on accident, and the killer sticks on me.

I feel what makes a difference is whether they are being stealthy yet productive or just stealthy to be the last one standing.

My playstyle is somewhat stealthy, although I do pay attention to when I need to take the chase away from another, or body block to prevent a down. However, I'm always doing something - just that I prefer that playstyle.

It's more the ones who just crouch around for ages, watch people in trouble yet not get involved and don't do anything. They're the ones who are frustrating to play with. Even if a player is inexperienced, I'd take a newer survivor who at least wants to get involved and learn over a more experienced one who just worries about their own survival.

The cases I had in mind is that sometimes they take too long hiding at a critical time, when they should be more worried about finishing a gen even if they take a hit or go down. Sometimes you have to trade your safety for a gen that will benefit everyone after all, cause you might never get the chance again to finish that gen.

I mean, hiding has its time and place.

For instance, hiding at the start of the match is often the preferred and smart approach as it allows your team to scout out the gens and which ones to do, as well as keeps the killer guessing as he won't find someone on his first patrol around the gens instantly.

But if its just someone straight up hiding cause they're so immersed in the game, to the point its affecting the match/killing the team's chances of getting out? Yea thats just straight up frustrating. Especially when the 3 others are doing everything they can to win. Its fighting a losing battle essentially.

Survivors can be stealthy but still productive. So long as they're still doing gens, still getting unhooks and stuff I'm fine with it. Infact, if they're on death hook they definitely should be being stealthy at all costs.

If they're letting go of gens the moment spine chill flashes on and are always crouching on a corner whenever you see their aura then yeah obviously they're being a bad teammate.

It depends. In certain cases they are not productive but on their end the excuse is that they are doing a challenge. Many require you to be alive and escape (if all else fails the hatch is always an option). I'm fine with the stealthy option but don't overdo it as it is the 4 of us that need to work together in order to win.

It kind of sucks when everyone is on death hook and they haven't been hooked once, yet they're still not taking aggro or taking a hook state. That's the only time it really bothers me.

If the survivor is being productive, like working on gens or being the one constantly going for unhooks/heals, and doesn't run the killer at teammates if they do get chased then I'm fine with the stealth play. Depending on how much I saw them helping the team in the match if they get first hook at end I'm more likely to risk trying to save them.

The ones I have a problem with are pretty much being useless - always hiding, never see them doing anything on the HUD, only time you see them in match is when they are being chased by the killer and they are heading straight for you so they can lose the killer and go back to being useless hiding waiting for either rest of team to finish objective or die so they can get hatch.

I feel like there is a difference between playstyle and tactical decisions.

Being stealthy as a playstyle is fine as long as, as others have said, you're still productive. Especially if you are a bad looper, stealthy is the right choice for the team. If you loop the killer for 30 seconds, or waste 30 seconds of the killers time playing hide and go seek, it is the same benefit for the team.

Tactically, are there times where going to hide is the wrong decision? Sure, but making a bad decision is another issue and can occur regardless of playstyle. Yes, if a player is 100% committed to stealth they hurt the team, but so does a player who insists on taking chase even when they are the only one on death hook.

It's fine if they're stealthy and efficient on gens. Heck, that's generally the *optimal* way to play survivor. Don't give the killer chases. Make them spend time looking for you.

Unfortunately, stealthy players are also allergic to any productive activity 99% of the time. It's rare to get a stealthy player who also slams gens. They just crouch walk around the map for 5 minutes at a time and then die instantly in a chase.

...someone else is getting chased close to them but they simply hide instead of doing a gen in the same vicinity that is done more than 70%

Can depend on other factors, but generally, I'd rather a teammate keep on the gen if possible and relatively safe. Otherwise, move to another gen.

never being willing to trade a health state/hook state....

Yes, a healthy surv with no or 1 hook state should try to draw aggro if a teammate is being chased and on 3rd hook, but it's one of those things I don't get fussed about unless the healthy person is hiding in a locker across the map or testing out their ability to blend in with the bushes while doing nothing else.

to take a protect hit for you or prevent you from getting killed.

This one I mind a lot less. Learning the best times to go in for a protection hit can be difficult in some situations and could end up negatively affecting the person running from the Killer.

Trading a hook state and protection hits are things that are generally simple in concept, but are harder to execute properly in game. I don't begrudge people for being hesitant on those unless they are being completely useless over all. Work on a gen, get the exit gates open. Do anything but hide.

The stealth play that annoys me far more is the surv with the flashlight or the sabo build that follows me around during chase, waiting for me to go down. They don't take proc hits, they're not on gens, and a lot of times they end up messing up my looping because of their positioning. Then, more often than not, the flashlight timing is off and I end up on a hook anyway, or there's another hook close enough and the sabo play doesn't matter.

But, with those instances, I try to not get too fussed. Everyone has to learn timing somehow.

My knee jerk reaction is to say that absolutely hate them.

    But.

There are multiple reasons why they are doing that. Maybe they are the legendary immersed gamers and are having so much fun that I don't mind being tunneled out by the Nurse.

Maybe they have an archive or a challenge to do.

Maybe they have died in 10+games and just really want to escape.

Those are all perfectly acceptable, even if somewhat annoying when I'm on death hook and nobody takes heat.

Yeah, I agree that sort of hiding isn't helpful at all. There are always times where someone needs to play their part.

It can get a little grating, but I get it.

Honestly, Survivor stealth isn't really rewarded enough if I'd rather a survivor hide than try to bodyblock or take aggro just to go down if they can't handle chases.

i personally don't like them and i almost always play "head-first", but there are times to play stealthy and not to so survivors need to know when. if you are the last person with hook stages available, you shouldn't play stealthy and even should get killer's attention. you shouldn't play too stealthy at the cost of productivity. but you also shouldn't throw the game by showing yourself when you are the only person not on hook/ground.
