Request from former Freddy main
Please let the "rework" not mean "redesign" because I like Freddy's core mechanics. The fact he is invisible when you are awake. His tracking ability while you are asleep. His ability to slow down the game in Dream World. I like these parts of his kit. I honestly do not want to see him changed to be a different type of killer. I can understand QoL changes, buffs, some stuff to make it more fun for survivors, etc, but at the end of the day I don't want to have to entirely relearn how to play Freddy. NOTHING EXTREME.

It's the same for me. There are a lot of small changes that combined can make Freddy stronger like no waking up by Adrenaline, the dream transition phase interrupting survivors' actions etc.

Him being invisible is one of the worst things about him. You can't really stealth around him, unless there's miraculously grass everywhere... and he's not listening for your movement.
3 -
Yeah, the things that make him fun to use are what makes him so unfun to play against.
The total invisibility and permanent aura reading need to go.

This nerf would make his hit and run worse and make him a lot more reliant on tunneling and more camping, which can make the game worse for survivors too.
Freddy is mostly fine, a different playstyle for both but his mixed bag of strength and weaknesses are what makes him the most unique Killer. Lets not ruin that for a change that will not make him more fun anyway.
2 -
What? His invisibility and aura reading are his only strong things at the moment and the only things which make him different from other killers. If you don't like the aura reading, fail a generator or healing skillckeck or look for a mate.
The main problem of Freddy is the transition to the dream world being too long and not interrupting survivor actions. Is very annoying when you see a survivor breaking your Ruin and cannot interrupt his action of cleansing it, or spoting one survivor opening the gates and cannot interrupt him seeing him finishing and scaping in front of your eyes while you can do nothing.

No they don’t. They really don’t. God forbid survivors have to adapt to different play styles from different killers. If you don’t want Freddy to see you, wake up and hope he doesn’t have Nurse’s.
Imo, Freddy, Michael, and maybe Doc are the only killers that are actually formidable to play against and force survivors to be on their toes; to me, they are both the funnest to play as and against.
I also hope the rework isn’t a redesign. I used to play Overwatch and Symmetra was my favorite hero...and they gave her a “dramatic” rework that basically coddled the Genjis she regularly fried and said f you to actual Symmetra players (and particularly her disabled player base who liked her accessibility.) I really hope that isn’t Freddy because I genuinely like playing as Freddy and Freddy is very accessible for me.

Indeed. Let Freddy be. We love him as he is and we love to kill as him!

Leave our Sweater boi alone! He just needs QoL buffs! Then he'd be a better killer!

Agreed, leave his base power the same, just don't allow survivors the leave the exit gate unless they are awake (blocked by entity) and don't allow gen repair or healing during dream transition.
If thats not enough (which I think it might be) increase his speed or/and action speed for every survivor in the dream world, 2 or more. Would make the dream world scarier and incentivize chasing down multiples instead of camping...
Maybe even giving Exposed to all when all 4 are in dream world and not downed, giving just one 1-hit down for pulling that off.

At the very least, I don't see his invisibility while people are awake thing going away. It would not make sense if awake Survivors could just see him.
0 -
If Survivors could not escape through the gates while asleep, then you create the possibility of Survivors actually having zero chance of escape if everyone is asleep and there are no means of being able to wake up.

That would be a huge step backwards. I love playing against Freddy and getting anxious when I hear his tune, not knowing if he can see me or not. I just croutch against a barrel and hope he misses me and moves on.
Hands down my favorite Freddy quality.

I feel the same. I've been maining Freddy for quite a long time now and I dread the possibility of a redesign. It feels like damocles' sword is hanging above his head.
He needs some QoL love and that's it.
Freddy is a strong Killer in the right (read experienced) hands and good fun to play as. He perhaps needs the longest time to get good at (possibly even more than the average Nurse), as you have to overcome almost every game mechanic due to them being stacked against you, but it pays off immensely at the end, as it doesn't just allow you to play him comfortable across all ranks, but it also improves your skill with the other Killers, that aren't hampered by those mechanics in the first place.

Sorry, QoL?

Quality of Life.

QoL = Quality of Life

I manage to do that quite well, you can use perks like premonition too, it works really well against freddy.
You also see grass movements caused by him

Thanks. That was my first guess, but thought it might be a specific DbD acronym.
All Freddy power change ideas and buffs aside, I'd love to see a Robert Englund Freddy skin added. That creepy smile with nasty teeth as he chases you, one shoulder lower than the other, claw jutted out.

I am a Freddy main when I’m a killer and there three things I think would make him more viable/dangerous. These wouldn’t have to all be implimented. Just one of them would help him out, but adding any of them would be a decent QoL for him.
- During a transition, Survivors are being transferred between realms, and therefore cannot vault or use pallets during the transition phase.
- Just like survivors cannot see Freddy when they’re not in the dream world, Survivors in the dream world cannot see other survivors (or their auras) that are outside of the dream world, butbthey can hear them and see their scratch marks.
- Survivors cannot exit the escape gates or hatch while in the dream world. This is Freddy’s realm and he wouldn’t put in an exit.
I’m mostly a fan of 2 or 3 myself.
2 would keep players in the dream world longer by preventing them from simply running to an ally to be woken up, this giving a decent balance to Freddy having the transition period before he can even touch you.
3 would help Freddy’s end game end dissuade Survivors from trying to prolong the game by farming points, rescuing other survivors, or dragging the game out hunting for the hatch.

I played a game the other night against a Freddy where I was using NM and OOO (I was really bored) AND he had Dying Light with a mori. I managed to avoid him for 90% of the game, and was the second to last alive with 1 gen left. Freddy is easy to avoid if you know how. Most survivors just stay in one place when they hear a lullaby which is the WORST thing to do.

RE: If you have a hard time tracking Freddy here are some tips:
1) Crows - This is the best way to track him. He disturbs crows like any killer would so if you see crows fly that's where he is. And Freddy can't avoid them like he can grass and such, plus they are hard AF to see in DW. If you can read the crows then you can track Freddy.
2) Grass/Corn - He moves this stuff so if you see it move then that's where he is. Good Freddy's will avoid revealing themselves this way too often, but it is easy to see him when you see corn parting.
3) Footsteps - Freddy has tapdance shoes as his footsteps are very loud. Inside most structures you can tell where he is by this alone.
4) Premonition/Spine Chill - Finally you have 2 perks that are GREAT counters to his stealth. Prem goes off? Walk in the opposite direction. Spine Chill goes off? Walk in the direction away from where you believe he is. Still going off? He probably sees you and is getting closer to sleep, start running to make that harder for him and to get to a pallet/window.

@DocOctober Yes this is 100% true. Freddy is a very viable killer but it's not easy to do. Unlike literally every other killer, your power does NOTHING to help in a chase outside of giving you an early mind game. Even Wraith can use his power to get around faster and bodyblock pallets or windows.
Freddy takes strategy. You can't just do what you do with every other killer you have to play smart. I've been consistently getting 4k's with Freddy at rank 1 using BBQ, Nurse's, Rancor, and Surveillance with a block and drawing (decrease transition time/increase power range). The only time someone escapes is if I let them do gens to get my Rancor (even then it's usually only 1 guy to escape) or drop the last guy on the hatch. I play to keep people slept all game, so I use my aura perks to find them and sleep them then pick targets I know I can get quickly. Sometimes I sleep someone and follow from a distance until they find another survivor and try to wake up. I sleep people a lot and just let them go, because if they aren't injured they need to find survivors or a gen. If it's mid game and there are only 4 gens and I'm protecting them, the only way to wake up is find a survivor. If I sleep everyone I have full control over the game as I can keep tabs on the survivors and stop them from doing important stuff like gens or healing. People have said I'm a really good Freddy because I body them without Ruin or NOED, and without resorting to lame tactics like tunneling/camping (usually).
He is labeled HARD for a reason though. I didn't just pick him up and start playing this well with him. I had to play a LOT, and lose a LOT, to get this far. I have tried so many different builds on him, including all the gimmick builds. People say Overcharge is a meme on Freddy BUT it's actually pretty good. If you kick gens and they realize you have Overcharge, they can't get on the gen and mash the button to wake up because it regresses a lot. So they are forced to hit that skill check, but the temptation is too high for some and they do it anyway. You can shut down a gen super fast if they insist on tapping it to wake up. It's a bit of a mind ######### for survivor.

the main change we need is a license agreement for a green and red sweater and the classic robert englund design do that and i don't care what you do with his powers and perks/add ons :)
2 -
I wouldn't mind more skins. I'd like the New Nightmare version too if we get all that (with the trenchcoat).

I stopped being a Freddy main because of the "rework". There's no sense to become "a master" on Freddy if they will redesign his power...
=/

If they just decreased the base sleep transition time and made it so that survivors couldn't perform actions during the dream transition, I would be happy. Possibly make it so self care failed skill checks do not wake the survivor too. There is no need to throw the baby out with the bath water.
1 -
Another addition needs to be that we can pick up Survivors in the dying state (or be able to put survivors in the dying state into the dream realm).
0 -
@Dreamnomad Yes I agree. I don't think shorter transition is NEEDED, but survivors should definitely be blocked from doing everything except pallets/windows and unhooks during transition. Then you could at least stop someone healing or doing a gen and force them to take it as a chase.
As for skill checks, I think the zones should be inverted so the fail is the size of the normal skill check and the success is the size of the fail zone (great stays the same). Then you can't just mash the button you have to actively attempt to fail the skill check.
Awake survivors that were already put to sleep at least once should see flashes of Freddy and some fakes (like Doc) very seldomly just to make it easier to know where he is.

I like the inverse skill check idea. Most of the time survivors just stop working on whatever when they see the skill check to auto fail. This also opens up the possibility of making one or more of Freddy's add ons make it so the skill check is smaller or more difficult.
And yes, I know lower sleep transition time isn't needed. But I also know that the quality of games when using faster sleep transition add ons is significantly improved. So yeah, these four things are what I'd like to see:
1.) Survivor actions other than unhooks will not progress during the sleep transition.
2.) Survivor skill checks while in the dream state are inversed. (they will need to press a button during a small window to fail the skill check. can not perform great skill checks while sleeping)
3.) Faster base sleep transition.
4.) Survivors performing the self care skill do not generate skill checks while sleeping.

I hope that they gutted him and actually give him something that is more fun and viable in the game

Freddy buff - Survivors cannot interact while in dream transition. Can only vault and use pallets.
Base power range slightly increased
Survivors who crouch a lot have a stronger aura intensity than more mobile survivors who have a slightly less visible aura.
Nerf - Freddy doesn't see scratch marks in his terror radius unless he's in a chase.
Freddy is more audible in TR so you can discern where his location is better giving survivors a slightly better chance to evade him.
