Let’s Discuss QOL for Killers

Survivors are and have gotten a lot of QOL additions recently. While killers only got theirs last Nov and haven’t been touched fully since. And I’m not talking about individual buffs or changes, I’m talking about all around changes that affect the whole cast. Now I’m not 100% against the survivors QOL buffs but I do gotta ask… when will killers get the same level of care?

Small personal information about me, I was born with extra tissue in my ears. It’s fairly common nowadays and you can get special tubes in your ears to help open them up so you can hear properly. What isn’t common is mine shifted and scared up my left ear a decent bit so I lost about 10% of my hearing in that ear. So 360° sound is harder for me in little ways, like survivor breathing and movement. If I was a survivor main I’d just turn on my heartbeat sensor and be slightly better, I can’t do that as a killer main. Nor can I fix the FOV to not be 87°. I usually play at around 110° on other games with a white dot in the middle to help my motion sickness (I hate car rides). Survivors if effected by a distortion get a small white dot.

I just think QOL changes should help both sides of the game. Not this weird 2 for you (survivors) 1 for me (killers) thing BHVR does. They should address issues all together to help improve the game as a whole.

Like currently they are talking about Face Camping (Something As a Killer i hate seeing other killers face camp) and adding bots to rage quitting survivors (Maybe punishing them would be more effective). But currently Gens are flying within 4-4:30 minutes when you’re against a group of gen monkeys with SB. If you’re not playing a mobile Killer you’re not going to have a fun time. So far we haven’t seen them talking about this issue at all, instead they are focusing on 3 Gen’ing (which I do agree is a problem but some killers like Trapper and Hag have that as one of their main strategies. So you’re killing off half their play style) by buffing a perk to give you 3 gens you can always see and a 6/7/8% boost on those three gens. Do they realize how broken they can be paired with PTS? Two people run the 8% and one of them has PTS? That’s 31% faster. This is a huge issue for one of the main QOL boosts we got back in Nov. who cares about an extra 10 seconds if you can stack two perks to make it nonexistent?

Sorry for ranting but this is an issue, not looking at both sides QOL needs will lead to one side not getting any help and they will just leave. I did back in 2020 because of the abusive DH usage (This was the OG one with the dash).

I’m very passionate about how dumb I can be. But it’s been on my mind for a bit and needed to rant. I’m just trying to figure out why killers never get huge QOL changes while survivors seem to get them every few months.

BHVR does something like nerfing gen kicking builds, fair enough pure gen kicking was annoying with some killers. But they don’t buff some of their lesser used chase or defense perks. Making it a Harder nerf than is needed. A simple QOL would be a Killer Perk update to the lesser 50% used perks.

Killers have been asking for a rework for hexes for years now. Considering how easy it is to destroy one or boon one, but they don’t talk about it.

It just feels like they do things for survivors without thinking about the next step a lot of the time. Kinda like the Basekit unbreaking they talked about last year. It sounds good on paper but in practice would’ve ruined the games central core. (I know slugging is an issue but could you effectively down three people and chase the forth and still have enough time to hook one of them before 45 seconds?) I agree slugging needs to be looked at but that was just not going to help. It would just make killers not want to play.

And where is this slugging change?

Oh yeah, in the void because the feedback they were looking for told them it was a bad idea.

Just a thought - it may be better to not think of it in terms of what 'they' get vs. what 'we' get. It may be that some changes - such as QoL for people who have hearing difficulty - may be easier for one role than the other. Personally, I dislike the the heart icon thing on surv and don't run it. From what I have been able to gather from reading/watching other people is that if a surv who doesn't have hearing difficult runs with it on, the impact on gameplay seems to be minimal. Meaning there is no significant benefit to not running it vs. running it.

The question then becomes is that same statement - the impact is minimal - for Killers? If a similar icon is in place for Killers will it make detection easier for Killers even if they do not have hearing issues? Is it enough of an impact to potentially tilt the outcome of the game? To be clear, I'm not posing that I have an answer to those questions, only that a QoL change for one role might have very different game impacts and considerations than for the other role.

It could also be that a thing that is easy to design and implement for one role is harder on a technical level to do for another.

I completely feel you on the Killer FOV. My motions sickness is fairly mild, but it's enough to make me stop playing Killer after a few games or outright not play Killer, depending on how I'm feeling that day. How much would changing the Killer FOV impact gameplay though? I don't know, but I imagine it's perhaps one of the big points to consider with a change like that.

As someone who has slight hearing loss in their left ear as well, I 100% feel your pain. The chase music is so loud that I can’t discern anything that happens to the left of me. I always get so jealous when watching streamers and they somehow hear the grass rustle 10 meters to their left while chasing somebody else lol.

To be fair, universal killer buffs need to take into account each killer as they all play differently. Survivors are basically costumes stuffed with perks and can be easily enough changed without any major outliers.

As for the anti-slug, that's what the PTB is for.

Have to admit the recent patches do seem pretty surv sided. And genrush has become more prominent since regression got nerfed into the ground.

And i like the idea of help for hard of hearing killers as well as survs. Personally my hearing is fine and I rely on it very heavily when I play killer, if survs get visual aids killers certainly should too.

None of the things killers got were quality of life improvements. No one says "killer feels better to play, because killers kick pallets slightly faster". All of those killer buffs were uninspired generic number buffs, that were purposely designed to move the kill rate, without making killer feel better to play.

Quality of life improvements are supposed to make the game feel better to play, which is exactly what the survivor HUD was designed to do. Meanwhile, we have a roadmap for the next year, and there's still zero announced killer quality of life improvements or killer accessibility improvements.

I think gen rush started *during* the regression meta - because it was literally do the gen asap or lose your progress and likely the game. I literally stopped doing totems or searching chests because doing so would likely cost my team the game. It's only noticeable now because the meta regression build was nerfed but survivors are still stuck in gen mode.

Being able to adjust chase music volume would be nice. Hook counters would be nice too. I look forward to seeing them get added 2-3 years later.

That and recovery/healing takes so long...focus on gens instead. The gens are all thats being done now. Whereas it used to be, "stop doing gens....lets heal up and reset". That's a gamble of course.

I'd consider map balancing to be a big QOL change for killers, but I hear you.

Personally I'd love it if the music was optional and adjustable like a normal game. It's good music most of the time, but it really doesn't need to be forced. Rocking out to your own tunes without the DbD music colliding would be *chef's kiss*
