I play whatever role the BP bonus is on, so usually Killer since I play late at night.

I've decided that even if there's a bonus for Survivor, it's not worth playing. I've not had a single game in 3 weeks where someone isn't tunneled out prior to two gens being done. Sometimes it's me, sometimes it isn't me. It doesn't really matter. It's an absolutely miserable experience and I can't understand why anyone would play it.

Just now I had a decent chase with a Wesker on Midwich; not a great map for looping. I go down, I get hump teched which was a little funny and then facecamped. Team saves me, he drops chase and rushes back to tunnel me, my rescuer body blocks me anddddddddd now I'm being bled out. Even with 5 cakes, I'm getting like 45K points and I've wasted 15 minutes of lobby loading, getting dodged and whatever constitutes as a game; for what might be one of the worst experiences in gaming. I could get 3 times that in a single Killer match and it would be way easier and FAR less frustrating.

I doubt there's even a way to fix this. I think half of it is me having rose-tinted glasses about how DBD used to be when I started playing and the other half is genuine frustration boiling over.

Also doesn't help that I'm getting matched with Trans-Atlantic Killers and getting booted from servers. Idk man, I know I'm going to keep playing DBD and bashing my head against the wall, but I really do wish the Survivor-side of the game was consistently fun, at least with Killer, I control my own destiny. It feels like with Survivor, your experience is entirely beholden to the Killer, the servers and your teammates; what you do doesn't really matter.

As a p100 Yoichi, I've genuenly had the whole lobby reset several times in the span of 14 minutes because killers kept dodging and survivors were tired of waiting.

Even though it's just a number.

Survivor is a team game, meaning your team will cost you the game. You have to accept that if you play survivor.

Honestly I used to play a lot more survivor than killer but since the last chapter came out I played a couple killer games and haven't gone back to survivor. Even with the BP incentives I play one game of survivor before switching back to killer.

I don't even care about tunneling, but even the games I win are just boring. Either survivors slam gens at the beginning and it's an easy win or the killer gets an early hook and we all die.

I know it's an exaggeration but it really feels like either you never live past 2 gens done or you get to the endgame without having being in chase once.

Anyways, my brain has finally caught up to the fact that waiting longer and gain less BPs for games that are fun is actually worth it, so I don't know when I'll play survivor regularly again.

That sucks to hear. I once had the absolute worst day playing survivor like an month ago. I've been playing since August last year and then took a 3-4 month break around December, but I'd never had such a ######### day. I probably didn't escape any game that day and I must have played like 20 and the quality of them was also atrocious.

It's true that as survivor the fate of the game feels way out of your hands when playing solo, I always talk about the lack of agency for solo survivors and no one wants to address it seriously. It's unfortunately something you have to accept as solo survivor and try to make the best of it. I feel after I came back from my big break I've been more chill, I still try to win ofc but sometimes I'd get mad at teammates, I mean I still do sometimes when I see they're 50m away from my hook and doing nothing, so I just let myself die and go next since at that point there's no saving the game but I also have many games where I am like "wow, damn I pipped from this game? I did not expect that". Pips can feel rewarding even if you didn't survive, feels like you at least did your best and someone noticed.

Right now my goal is to become better at using the Flashlight and I'm going into games with the realization that my perks are not the most efficient and many times I'll make mistakes, but it's something to change the pace. I'm even sure many people will get mad at me or think I'm throwing the game (I avoid trailing behind a survivor for too long hoping to get a save, although that does seem like the best way to learn the ropes), but I try to do a gen or two, ofc go for unhooks and if they're not very far from me I attempt to make it the pick up and maybe do something about it.

When I see playstyles I hate I try to think that I simply wanna get better at the game so they don't get the best of me, or at least they waste so much time with me that they don't pan out the way they wanted them to. And many times when they resort to camping I can already tell they don't play that killer any way (and usually they have no prestige on their killer), so they probably felt a lot of pressure and resorted to it, so I think it's a bit silly to let it get to you when they are not even that good (they don't usually end up with more than 1k, except Bubba for obvious reasons).

In my 6K hours, I did manage to figure that out.

Misplays on both sides also used to be far less punishing.

If you can’t accept the state of tunneling and proxycamping at "high level" you won’t have much fun on any side, except if you play chill without caring about the outcome.

I find it hard to believe that you weren't able to finish more than 2 gens in the times someone dies once for multiple weeks. I had a game where the survivors finished the first gen mere seconds after my Lethal Pursuer ran out. So it's needless to say that had a pretty good head start. I lost that game but at least I can say that all of them were decent in chase as well.

But I digress. I've only played a handful of survivor games during the event but really for me it's not quite that bad. Yes, there was a lot of tunneling and camping but mostly we held our own. One Blight (not an amazing player but decent) tried tunneling a Nea on my team and came to regret that. We all made it out because we did some bodyblocking and focused on gens. One Huntress downed me pretty early into the game and camped me out. I kind of get it though. It was a way to guarantee her a win. Not nice but effective.

Still, my games have been alright. Not super good, not super bad. Just alright.

Survivor BP gain has always been ridiculous tbh, even cakes are limited for some extremely weird reasons.

I had that happen 2 days ago, where every match was beyond miserable. Matched against killers with power-trips. But I've noticed that yesterday and today, the match-making overall has been very 50/50. I win games, I lose games. Get matched with very competent teammates or with absolute potatoes.

You can call me crazy, but I've been trying to get all of my adepts, and it has been pretty fun (I lost all of my achievements after cross-progression).

That’s what happens when the devs balance based on the most ignorant part of the player base.

    woundcowboy Member Posts: 1,994

When have I said that survivors should play altruistically? That’s the opposite of what they should do because it helps the killer keep pressure. Someone can maybe body block if they are close, but survivors are supposed to slam gens if the killer is choosing to tunnel.

I find it hit or miss. Some days I'll get multiple good games and escape lots and then other days it will be match after match of camping and tunnelling.

I actually find teammates to be more if an issue than camping and tunnelling. Like people just randomly DC because it's Nurse or Pinhead. Suicide on first hook even though you're on route to save them. Teammates that just don't bother saving you and all sit on gens and let you go to stage 2 or worse.

I just wish all the lobby shopping didn't absolutely wreak their matchmaking system. It leads to so many awful experiences and complete mismatches, way too often. I'd love to see some kind of test where there is no lobby at all, give the system its best chance at a fair-ish trial. Would prevent surv last second swapping bs as well.

It really is crazy that you can still see prestige level, hours, etc when it's only ever used to shop for easier games. My highest prestige character is my p80 Cheryl and I definitely notice a huge uptick in dodges when I try to play as her. I also notice far more difficult games that seem to correlate with the amount of dodges we get. It's anecdotal but I definitely feel like the dodges break the matchmaking.

"I uSe iT tO aVoiD hAcKerS bRO!!!!"

I also think that they need to overhaul survivor bloodpoints. Sometimes i'll just log off and not play for days. It's not a rage quit issue either. It's just me realizing it's not worth my time to invest time in a game where the rewards are horrendously low for one side. At least give us some sort of minimum amount of bloodpoints so we don't feel like we're wasting our time and getting nothing in return for it. What happens in solo queue in particular is very often out of our control. We shouldn't get no bloodpoints because we had the misfortune of getting matched with a 7000 hour blight who is determined to speed run a solo queue lobby that he dodged six other lobbies to get put into. If we're going to be miserable then at least give us something for our time.

additional to that, you get toxic killer, that humps you, hook slaps you and let you bleed out while standing on top of you nodding right by the hook. to complete that you get told by Mandy the community manager that these are all valid things a killer is allowed to do and close the thread to not allow any discussion about it. So instead of finding soothing words that they at least will look into this, they tell you straight to your face that BHVR officially doesn't care if you enjoy the game or not and they dont want to talk about it.

Not only that, the way good survivor play works in general prevents "carrying" on a conceptual level, and I'm not sure that BHVR quite understands that.

You can't hide a relatively bad player in DbD. They won't know how to position effectively, when to move, etc. The worst player is usually going to be seen the MOST.

A good survivor will often not be found in the first place if the other survivors are relatively worse in terms of game sense or positioning. They'll stick out like a sore thumb. That one good player might very well be capable of running that killer all day, but the killer is likely to never come across them until the game is all but over.

I have a feeling they slapped a generic SBMM algorithm onto an asymmetrical game, but match balance doesn't work the same way in this genre.

I changed platforms at the start of the year, so none of my survivors are high prestige or get dodged, but I think BHVR need to hurry up and just hide prestige until endgame. I get matched with my fair share of P100 or simply high prestige survivors, and if they're not the ones who go down 20 secs into chase then they're definitely the ones who chuck a hissy fit when something doesn't go their way and ruin the game for everyone else. There's the rare exceptions. Yet killers still dodge those lobbies.

If BHVR have faith in their SBMM system then hiding prestige won't make a difference except to ensure ridiculous backfilling stops.

They removed rank showing in lobbies because of harassment, lobby dodging, and griefing, only to create this prestige number and reveal it in lobbies. 🤦

I suppose I just recognize I'm not as good a Survivor as I am Killer and I just cannot let that go.

I know I'll keep bashing my head against the wall that is Survivor atm, but man, I really wish I could take your advice.

I've had a similar experience and while I try to keep playing DBD I primarily play other games now. Do you have any other games you play or is DBD just your go to?

Earlier I got accused of cheating by a Deathslinger because I just kept crouching to avoid their shots and they bled me out and humped me on the ground for a few minutes before finally hooking. Feels like moments like that have been tripled since the event but I'm not too invested into DBD so much as I used to be so I just find alternatives to play if I get tilted. It's helped my mentality with this game a bit having other games to go to.

Not sure if you're up for suggestions but Deep Rock Galactic is a great side game to play. Definitely a good chillout game when DBD gets too tilting.

Also - One thing you and a few others bring up is lobby shopping because prestige number. I really wish they would hide prestige numbers as I've made the mistake of prestiging my favorite character too many times. I get tired of sitting in a ######### lobby only to have a dogwater game shortly after. We all know prestige means nothing but I feel it's the reason I spend more time in the lobby than in game.
