Unpopular Opinion: Smaller Maps Would Make The Game Worse For Killer...

I always see "just make maps smaller" and I do not think it will have the intended outcome that people are hoping for, at least in my opinion.

Holding W is a playstyle that well, holds W or forwards. It is strong because you can connect a lot of tiles together and waste significantly more time. In some cases, this playstyle is enabled by map design, sometimes it is enabled by an awful Killer power, or a large amount of different things.

I think the only "effective" way of removing Holding W, as some people want, would be to make maps larger to increase the distance between structures to make this playstyle less effective, especially when factoring in Killer powers and Bloodlust being a mechanic.

As you can probably tell, that is complete opposite of what people want. Making maps smaller will make Generators easier to pressure and defend but make loops spawn in a higher density, thus making them more effective for the Holding W playstyle which Killers oh so hate.

I know someone will mention a map such as Midwich, so I might as well discuss that as well, from a top-down view, Midwich is the smallest map, but Midwich actually has a lot of surface area when you consider it is a multi-floored map. The map, in my opinion, has a lot of strengths and weaknesses for Killers, and is not this "magnum opus" of Killer-sided maps like people claim it to be... also, it's a map that really encourages Holding W.

Now, this is not to say that "Killers are in a lose/lose situation", since that is not the case. Instead, there is a balance between distance and map size that must be delicately balanced to get the best results. It's never as simple as making maps smaller or make the distance between loops wider, since there is a lot of nuance to this topic.

I think some maps do need it though. Mother's Dwelling is a great example. Very large map which could benefit from a size reduction.

You're basing it on assumption that loops will spawn in a higher density which you have no way of knowing. I don't believe we have enough small maps to really come to a conclusion if it would be better or not.

Basic "Holding W" never really works and usually ends up with the killer getting the down due to mechanics. I feel like you're talking about loop chaining, which technically you will have to have strategy to "Hold W" correctly.
