Updated Rancid Abattoir Deadzone

Has anyone else noticed this or have I just been incredibly unlucky? Was playing on the updated Rancid and noticed there was a severe lack of pallets opposite of shack. It contained one unsafe pallet, one long wall jungle gym, the harvester and the rest was dead zone. The shack side had a decent amount of pallets, the middle was kind of eh with an L and T wall and another unsafe pallet.

I went into a custom game to see if it was consistent and the first test, there was the harvester, a L and T wall, and one safe pallet on that side. Plus the entrance had the new breakable wall, so you couldn't easily access the main building. The second game had two unsafe pallets, a harvester and a L and T wall. The third time I decided to record, just so I had some evidence for uploading at here, but you can see that all the map gave survivors was an unsafe loop, harvester and a long and short wall jungle gym.

Meanwhile, on all the test, the shack side had a decent amount of pallets. So is that one side a total deadzone now or is my luck (one actual game and 3 custom games) just really bad?

Not just that map they updated several, the "balance" is awful.. Look at azarov, the one with the house in the midde, its completely empty, no pallets no windows no walls, no nothing. ######### behaviour..

Its almost as if different maps have different ideas on what you should be doing. And on this map you are supposed to use the cover of the corn to hide.

In all seriousness though, the RNG on map gen can swing both ways and is probably the biggest problem in terms of balance. They really should just do away with the whole "RNG" aspect of map gen and just curate all the maps. It would solve a bunch of problems.

Well I mean what did we expect? In order to make maps more fair for killers they have to be made worse.

That being said I loved the Azarov rework but this Coldwind one is terrible.

I would understand just removing a jungle gym from each side (the map used to have 2 on each side + one in the middle), but at least put up some smaller filler ones or windows. Like if against Huntress/Trickster/Bubba/Billy and other killers with instadown or attacks with small cooldown, survivors don't stand a chance on a side of map with literally nothing. They could've also made the maps smaller and more compacts instead of big with huge deadzones.

Azarov was a rework done right, Coldwind feels like they weren't sure what to do

Yup! Played on it this arvo and avoided one area of the map completely. There was absolutely nothing there, it was a free down zone

Making maps more balanced has nothing to do with creating huge deadzones, this just creates situations for zero interaction to be had, aka boring gameplay. Balancing maps should not decrease pallets but instead make them less safe and less chainable.

This was also my favorite map outside of coal tower. Always thought this was one of the most balance maps in the game but now it terrible from a survivor side. main building only have 1 window open at a time making it impossible to play the building for more than one loop and the map have a very low amount of resources. Extremely weak main building now with a very limited amount good resources around the map. Might as well be another Sanctuary Wrath. The camouflage in the fields been tone down significantly to point that i can easily see people even behind 3 rows of corn. I'm glad for no more corn vision when I'm playing slinger at least.

I still don’t understand why they bothered touching rancid

I personally always thought cowshed was the only unbalanced one

It’s fine. Survivors have Red Forest.

Literally all the maps are deadzones now, this is nothing new

Yeah, touching Rancid is weird. It's was one of the smaller maps and it had a decent density of pallet for it's size and a main building that was decently strong, but not unfair. It was a great map for both roles IMO.

I thought if another map was gonna get touched alongside Cowshed, it would be Rotten Fields, due to its giant size (7th biggest map) and lack of main building. Plus it has the same issue as Cowshed with all gyms and pallets being along the edge of the map, so it's easy to chain tiles together, and then there's a completely empty middle (except shack ofc).
