Is everyone okay with playing SM like this?
- You put drones on gens as bait to make Survivors disable them to give you Haste or if you are in chase allready and they are in the drone area, you still gaining Haste boost from them. You will always try to have 1 drone with yourself to always drop in chases (or you can summon back some drone if you don't have).
- You chase Survivors and you have chase build. You are not trying to defend your gens unless you can't find a Survivor yet to chase. You don't drop chases just so you can go back and defend gens. You continue chasing if you can.
- Idealy you use chase / haste / hindred add-ons so drones give you buffs and reasons to drop in mid-chase on loops to gain your power so you are not just M1 Killer with nothing. You can also play Haste build with Nemesis, Game Afoot, PWYF, etc.
Does anybody has problem with this? If so, I really don't know how can I help you guys. And no, "just play someone else" isn't the option if you want to play that one specific character.

That's the way I play her. She works with that playstyle, but it requires a brain, and a lot of players gravitate towards the easiest possible build/playstyle that allows them to win. In this case, boring survivors into submission with 3 gen Skull Merchant.

I'm fine with you playing however you want.
but to answer the question in the title. no. because you can never please everyone

I had a Skull Merchant play exactly like that this morning. There were no DCs, which says it all, and she got a 4k.

I don't know, since the team eternal match all my SM matches were using the Chess Merchant build.
I started to just ignore SM and do gens in areas with drones just to force SM to remove me from the game.

I just don't enjoy going against her no matter how she plays. I don't think 1 killer should get info on survivors all the time + haste + exposed + undetectable + being anti looper and 3 genner.
Sorry but no thank you!

i'd be fine going against that but i also wouldn't blame anyone else for not wanting to go against any skull merchants due association with that one annoying playstyle

I think her reputation is beyond repair. Yes, you can play her like that. And yes, it requires more effort than just going for the 3-gen from the start.
But I think many people just give up once they see a Drone and dont want to deal with Skull Merchant at all. Especially because often enough players try out the Build from the game against Eternal.

Play however you like but don't expect everyone to be happy about it. You can't please everyone. As for myself, I probably wouldn't disconnect against you but I hate this killer with a passion and would rather not play than playing against her no matter what kind of chess you want to play.
Edit: Typo

This is proof you can’t please anyone. So play how you want because not everyone is going to be pleased no matter how nice you play

Play it however you want.

With the reputation that SM has, without some kind of formal update announcement from BHVR regarding it most people will still expect three gen hell and suicide/DC out.
You can play however you want, though, and may luck out with some people staying.

I go for totem defense myself.
Devour, Thrill, Iron Grasp (to hook away from drones) and a flex perk (Deadlock is my crutch of choice)
Thrill over Undying is deliberate. Idea is drones + Thrill's slowdown offers ample opportunity to interrupt a cleanse. I keep it to 2 Hexes because too many spreads drones too thin.
I also have a less effective but still fun trap totem build of Undying, Haunted Ground, Retribution, and a fourth Hex of your choice (I've used Blood Favor and Devour, basically a totem to prompt them to go after despite the traps)

This is how I play Skull Merchant.
I would love to see the looks on the support team's face when they get a report syaing I took the game hostage. "The Skull Merchant didn't have any gen regression perks, didn't kick any gens, and committed to almost every single chase instead of returning to gens! Please ban!"

How does that play style require a brain? I'm sorry but chase merchant is just a brainless version of clown: shut the loop with the drone (at least clown has to decide where to throw the bottle, aim a bit?), survivor needs to leave cause they'll get exposed, they get hindered while the killer gets a speed boost, free hit
Fun and entertaining. Sure it's better than 3gen merchant, but let's not pretend that requires more skill or it's in any way more engaging
