The entitlement is getting strong
It is your job and ONLY your job to make the game fun for YOU.
Nobody bought the game to make the game fun for YOU, they bought it to make the game fun for THEMSELVES.
Nobody is going to play a certain way because YOU find it fun. Get over it, make the game fun for yourself, and do whatever you find fun.
if something is universally unfun for everyone then the devs will do something about it, but we don’t need to tell others how to play the game they bought. This goes to both killers and survivors.
remember that not everyone can be pleased. This is a message for survivors and killers to just play how you want, you bought the game to have fun so go have fun

Unfortunately, that attitude is what causes the entitlement in the first place. If someone decides to play the game by just BMing everyone for giggles, then if someone is upset by that, that is not entitlement. The entitlement stems from the ignorance of not caring about others.
Of course, there are many ways where people perceive others to play BM style when it's not (for example, a slugging playstyle), but there are many others who just want to cause deliberate issues such as hackers (which, within your definition, are playing as they wish and it's not their responsibility - afterall, they did buy the game and hacks).
People do get riled up over the stupidest of things and the idea of congruence is something heavily lacking, but empathy is also important. Entitlement comes when expecting others to just bend to your will. You're right that people should not be disuaded from playing how they wish, but there is a duty to ensure you deliberately don't act to make someone's experience truely #########.

im not getting what’s so selfish about it. What’s so selfish that I want to play something like nurse or blight even though people don’t like that. Why is that selfish?
obviously BMing someone is terrible but this post was just to say to play what you want. So I shouldn’t play what I want?

I don't think playing Nurse is BM, I actually enjoy Nurse both playing her and going against her and I really hope no one is on her saying playing her is an issue. That said, slugging and leaving 4 survivors to bleed out might be fun for the killer but that is the type of toxic stuff that the devs need to look into and actually weed out. And lately, it's been an unfortunate trend lately with Pig.

This is exactly how you should play.
To the people here attacking this point of view its a game. Stop taking it so seriously.
Bellow is a prime example of what I mean.
Its possible to be a very mean killer in game and play to be as nasty a character as possible and still be a charitable caring and reasonable person out side of the game.
Just as its possible to be an obnoxious survivor and still be a genuinely nice and un-obnoxious person in real life.
Half the griping on these forums would be rendered mute if players just stepped back and realized this.

I'm fine with it, on two conditions.
- It doesn't extend to "playing for salt", where ruining the game for others becomes the primary goal of a match.
- It also included "MY fun isn't the responsibility of OTHERS either"
#2 in particular seems rare, there's sooo many people that will die on a hill to defend the "my fun isn't your responsibility" mindset that then turn into an absolute rage hurricane the very moment they're on the recieving end of something they don't like. It's all "if it's not against the rules, it's fair game" when they do something, but it's a sign of pure evil when their opponent(s) do something perfectly legal but annoying.
EDIT: Not accusing you of not believing in #2 OP, I saw your response to someone and I believe you. Just saying that there's so many people that fail to have it go both ways that it sours my perception of the entire mindset a little.

That's fine. I have zero intention of making the game miserable for others though. I want the game to continue to succeed and not help drive people away from it. You do you though.

This is the correct mindset.
I never will understand the BM SWF's or the tunneling/face camping/slugging group. Each side, needs the other side or we will just be playing against bots constantly or stuck in a super long cue. If the only way to have fun is to troll someone, go play Fortnite where that is the expectation. You can get a 4k and still make the match enjoyable for everyone. You can loop a killer without having to t-bag and flashlight spam and be toxic.
Why do anything that would make someone not want to cue up again? I've said it before on here, I love the back and forth playstyle. Couple gens done, couple people hooked and the game truly could go either way. That's fun, everyone feels like they have a chance and it's entertaining. Getting rolled up at 5 gens by a killer or having a group of survivors gen rush while their perfect loop build teammate runs you around the map and the whole team waits at the exit gate to click and t-bag is something that brings nothing to the game.

All this is true, but the problem is that many of the people advocating that people should play the game in whatever way they enjoy are the same people that absolutely lose their minds when the shoe is on the other foot. The amount of hypocrisy in the community on this point is amazing.
And I acknowledge that a player who paid for the game should be able to play in whatever way they choose (within the established rules), but also personally feel like as a community we should have at least a modicum of empathy for other players.
And in reality exercising some discretion in the way you approach others can be very self serving, because it protects the health of the game. If the experience of the casual player, or the new player loading in to a mismatch, etc., etc, is so bad that they quit, that really harms us all. Toxicity propagates, lame playstyles proliferate, and none of this is happening in a vacuum.
I like DBD, I want to live on in a healthy state.
Telling people to not take the game so seriously is whistling in a hurricane. Too many people take the game too seriously, and that isn't going to change. In our increasingly online world, these online interactions are everything to some people. It isn't healthy at all (a LOT of people really need to touch some metaphorical grass), and we shouldn't all be gaming on eggshells, but practicing a little discretion doesn't seem like a huge ask.

It does get frustrating, I came back recently after not playing for a year or two, first game back was called all sorts of names in end game chat, all I got was a 2k, didnt tunnel all game, just camped end game hook once doors were open and I had no chance of getting the other person(I had run the 3rd guy out the gate). The survivors definitely seem to quote the killer rulebook(as written by survivors) quite a lot. Im not playing to ruin peoples games, but I also want to rank up, which requires me to not always let you off with chances.

I saw you answering to me in the skull merchant topic so im just going to assume or guess that you might be playing skull merchant. I know its frustrating when people DC, but you can't expect us to play against her. It has nothing to do with entitlement.
I do agree on the fact that you shouldnt play just to make others happy since it will eventually make you unhappy. You are playing this game for yourself.
I personally try to play as fair and nicely as possible and as a survivor i never BM the killer, since making someone elses day worse gives me nothing in life.

See the problem with these types of arguments that remove human-empathy from the equation to be purely objective is that it can never actually be applied in a practical sense to the real world because in the real world societal-feelings and community consensus absolutely do affect personal freedoms.
You don't exist in a vacuum, like it or not your actions have consequences on those around you. Video games are no exception.
Can you tunnel, camp, slug, t-bag, click, etc etc etc? Yes you can and the game allows it. But should people encourage this behavior? I don't think so. And as a community we should continue to discourage unsportsmanlike behavior because it only serves to make the game worse for everyone except for the few people who pride themselves on being annoying.
The devs allow tunneling and camping to exist because they are valid ways to win a game, but its very clear that they actively want to discourage both playstyles with things such as anticamp and basekit BT.
They are actively discouraging them because they recognize that they are unfun strategies most players dislike experiencing, and this is coming from someone who likes the challenge of being tunneled.
Its annoying that these topics devolve into people actively defending unhealthy playstyles with bad comparisons when the focus should be on how to reward killers better and give killers more agency in having a myriad of good strategies to use against good teams instead like survivors do.

My own rule is a slightly modified "I am not responsible for your fun, but I am mindful of it."
Summed up - I'll play to win, or for whatever goal I'm after in a match, but I'm not going to go out of my way to my a dick about it, or do things I wouldn't want happening to me if I were on the other side. That usually keeps the bulk of the salt away, minus the people who'd complain whatever I do and can thus be ignored regardless.

Oh this is said in ffxiv as well. It's said by a popular saying "you don't pay my sub!!" meaning, since you are the one paying for your subscription to the game, you can play however you like, even at the cost of ruining everyone's fun and not being a good team mate.

You wanna defend that we should encourage more fun playstyles, go for it.
But this argument in particular is bad for it.

The thing is, being nasty or obnoxious doesn’t get a pass just because it’s in a game. It just means the reaction should be commiserate with what it is. Post game trash talk or complaining on a forum is hardly some huge reaction.
Frustration is an emotional response. It usually doesn’t help that particular feeling to be told it matters so little to others that you shouldn’t even express that you’re frustrated.

I think that your goal is to win, by any means necessary, and that you aren't concerned that the other party isn't having fun.
I think that it's important to remember that the other party are still people, and if you wouldn't enjoy it, chances are they aren't enjoying it either. That's about what it boils down to.
Mind you, I don't mean to make this sound as if I mean you personally, since you did say that you don't engage in tunneling or camping.

Sure, it's selfish, and you aren't obligated to care that the other party isn't having fun, but ponder for a moment, what do you think happens when everyone adopts that mindset? Nobody has fun.

In my 900 hours as killer I have NEVER seen an instance where a survivor was going out of their way to make sure I have fun. And I'm not talking about farming games (those can be fun too).
What does that even look like? When I'm swinging an ax at your head, how do you communicate to me that you aren't having fun but you want me to have fun too?

You misunderstand. You don't need to make the game fun for them, you only need to make sure you aren't making the game unfun for them.
I don't go out of my way to diminish the killer's experience, and they don't go out of their way to diminish mine. We both play the game normally, and we both try to win. That's the ideal scenario.
What usually happens is I don't go out of my way to diminish the killer's experience, but they go out of their way to diminish my experience because they feel like they need to win 100% of the time.
