Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Are Chain-Blinds Fair? (IMO, Yes)

For those unaware, whenever a Killer is Blinded via a Flashlight, the rate at which you gain/lose blindness is a gradual effect, meaning that you can reapply blindness to the Killer as they start to lose the blindness effect. Because of this, the Survivor is able to Blind the Killer repeated (if the Killer is not looking up or down).

I personally think Chain Blinding is perfectly fair to have in the game, and I know there are bound to be some people who disagree with it. Knowing the timing for Chain Blinds takes skill and knowledge and lets the Survivor have more skill expression in their gameplay; not only that, but the counterplay to Chain Blinds exists for Killers in most situations.

Flashlights are also kind of a weak item to begin with, at least compared to the strength of Medkits and Toolboxes. Experienced Killers can still track Survivors using audio, and avoiding a Flashlight Save or even baiting a Survivor into giving you a free hit isnt too difficult to do anyways. I think Chain Blinds give Flashlights a lot more flexibility in what you are allowed to do within the confines of the game.

What are your thoughts on this? Is this a mechanic that should stay in the game, or should it be changed?

I mentioned this. The Killer has a lot of room to counter Chain Blinds. If Chain Blinding was an issue, it's either the Survivors are able to express their skill too much or the Killer lacks enough skill... and I think we both know which one is realistically the answer.

Also sidenote, it annoys me when Killers look up to avoid Blinds. Looking down gives you better tracking since you can at least see the Survivor's legs, Scratchmarks, and Trail of Blood.

I saw complaints on the Forums all the way back when MMR was introduced; but recently I got into a Survivor match, Chain Blinded the Killer, and the Killer DCed and went off on me in the Post-Game Chat.

Didnt get my Blinds in One Match Archive. D:

I personally hate it when people act like Firecrackers, Flashbangs, and Fireworks are awful, when they arent.

I personally think they are better than Flashlights because they instantly blind and the blind angle is significantly wider than Flashlights.

Even if they are one time use, they are not that hard to get your hands on to begin with, they are dirt cheap during events or obtained via progressing your objective.

95% of my Flashbang Saves I just wonder "how the hell did that even work?" because of how stupid they are.

They're easily avoided, so they're fine.

They're still incredibly irritating though, any time you're blinded and it feels 'unavoidable' (even if it's technically not) is irritating. In this case it's because you often don't expect the chain blind, so you don't look away when you've already been blinded because you think 'what's the point', and then you get chain blinded.

Personally I find pallet blinds the most irritating. You mostly likely need to break the pallet, and doing so puts you in animation lock. This gives the survivor a completely free chance to blind you, for very little effect. It takes no skill to do it and by doing so they delay their own escape so it doesn't really pay off. The whole dance just feels like it's all for nothing, just purely to irritate the killer for the sake of being petty. They simply serve as an easy way to blind the killer for challenges.

chain-blinding is like getting enduring spirit fury as survivor. you do not play around it as killer regularly but once you get bliinded, you forgot to look down and then you get hit by a chain-blind.

background player+flashbang is one of underrated combos that survivor under utilize. this used to be a more difficult thing to pull off because you had to 99% a sb and do well-timed flashlight save but they made flashlight easier to use and invented a perk for flashlight blinding. that thing is as annoying to play against as hook sabotaging with old dh.

Yes. You can simply look up, look down, or even look side to side if you feel so inclined.

To be honest I'm not sure why blinds don't already have a cooldown period. A good many things, both perks, addons, and powers/abilities, tend to have either a cooldown or pre-requisite to prevent them from being spammable or otherwise inundating.

Besides the health issues given above, chain blinds can be headache inducing. Since there is no cooldown or anything to prevent their abuse, when playing killer I actively encourage survivors to not do that, or avoid flashlights entirely. Franklin it out of their hands, if they stop to pick it up get an easy down then hook and camp. If they're rescued, tunnel out. If they don't stop to pick up the flashlight, double hook them then farm them for a bit during the trial.

If I'm not running Franklin's and they they continue to attempt blinds, or I run into them in another trial and they attempt the same thing, double hook then torture the hell out of them for the remainder of the trial and make them bleed out. If the rest of their team isn't annoying I'll let them farm heals off of them then re-down them.

If they DC, farm their bot while the rest of the team finishes and leaves.

If 3-4 survivors are bringing flashlights, run Lightborn, double hook each if possible (mostly to see how long it takes them to realize flashlight saves aren't working), then slug and bleed out all. Stand on hatch in case any crawl close to it so it can be easily closed. Smack back down anyone running Adrenaline.

Improvise as needed if it gets boring.

Be the solution to life's problems.

Yeah, I agree with some of the previous posts -- the issue to me isn't so much about fairness, it's more that, most of the time, there's no purpose to doing it other than being annoying. If you already got the first blind, you should be trying to hide or escape -- not lurking around to try to get another one.

    Eh, I think it's harmless.

It's a little more awkward on console players on low sense, but it's certainly not unmanageable to simply look away. Once I learned being quick blinded successively was a thing, I've not fallen for it again since.

If anything it's a good teaching tool... stop being lazy and look away you scrub 😏
