Is DBD dying?

Lately the queue times have been worse. I have seen the same players alot, and steam players have went down alot. I have never seen once 20k active players. It was always 30k+ players, really worried about the future of this game. Even though it's not the same anymore and it's completely understandable that people are leaving it cause of BHVR's terrible choices, it would be nice if it didin't die just yet.

    No its not.

Queue times do seem a little longer at times (depending on side / time of day) but I expect it to go at least 10 years then maybe a sequel could improve things if the code can't be sorted out but they'd lose a lot of licences doing so.

A lot of people quote steam numbers as when talking about player health but consoles have way more players!

I don't wait much on queue granted I always play the side that has the BP bonus so that might be helping my case.

DBD has been supposedly dying for years now. Fact of the matter is the game won't die as long as they keep pumping out new content. The moment content making stops is the moment the game dies.

I’ve played during a time two years ago when survivor queue times were so much worse. It wasn’t dying then and it’s not dying now.

This game won't be dead until you can't play it anymore, if you're going off player count this game has been dying since a few months from the original resident evil chapter with nemesis, the all time peak on steam was 105,000 and now we're around 30,000 and we've lost players even after a major license back to back with nic cage and alien, the game is still playable though and as long as the servers stay on the game is technically alive, but even if dbd were to shut down tomorrow did it really die whenever it controlled an entire genre for nearly a decade? I would say it ran its course as a solid game instead of died

Even if it were to die tomorrow, people would still remember the game and some would also lament it's demise as they would miss playing it.

Happened with Friday the 13th, Last Year, Evolved and Deathgarden to name a few after they all died, same would happen with TCM & DBD if they were to die as well.

When TCM was release, yeah, queue times is awfull, but now... It's more quicker than two week ago... Maybe you tend to play when its the "empty" hour?

The game didn’t die when Survivor Queue times were 10-20 minutes. The game is slowly creeping back to that state but not yet

Human perception is very easily led a stray by outlier data points. We notice things that seem odd and remember them better then the status quo which tends to blur into forgettable. It's the same when people cry on here about ALWAYS being tunnel camped or ALWAYS going up against SWFs, thje reality is that they won't be but a few specific games stick out so they perceve all games like that.

If you look at steam charts (which has data flaws but it's the best we'll get out of direct info from BHVR or Valve directly): https://steamcharts.com/app/381210

The last 30 days has averaged 34k after peaking a bit over 40k when Nic got released then falling when BG3 and TCM got released. YTD is a bit lower than last year but nothing majorly so, we're also currently seeing more players atm than April/May time so it's not even a low point of the year. (Those were probably influenced by Hogwarts and MYM releasing). I wouldn't be surprised if the next week or two is also quieter as Starfield just fully launched which will attract a lot of players. Overall no, the game is nowhere near dying

There were a lot of neat game releases lately: Remnant 2, Baldur's gate 3, Armored core 6, TCM, overhyped Starfield, etc. No wonder live service games lose playerbase.

I've seen it on the Steam charts below 20k in the past upon randomly checking, so no. The game isn't dying any time soon and, as of this time, there are 35,716 players on Steam alone, not forgetting Steam is a small portion of the overall whole.

Some jump to the idea of "dying games" way too soon. Things fluxuate and knee-jerk reactions to DBD dying has been happening for years.

I know it's been awhile since a good chapter release but this is common.

It could just be from everything that's has been going on with gaming the last month or two. TCM came out so I'm sure people are still enjoying that. Starfield also just released and can probably take a lot of a persons time.

I don't have a problem with queue times from either side. Killer usually takes me a little longer but it's generally less than a minute.

I asked my doctor if I was dying, she said yes, but no faster than everyone else.
