Problem with the Adam Challenge in current tome?

So I and a streamer friend both were trying to do the DIversion challenge, and multiple times we threw our pebbles immediately after a survivor was hooked and... nothing happened. I was doing vault locations and she was doing generators and... nothing...

So, I've never used Diversion before and so what are we doing wrong?

    It's very finicky, took me 3 matches to get it.

    You throw the pebble at an angle to where you are looking (goes slightly right, almost 45 degrees) and it lands after making some distance, so you have to line up your shot somewhat precisely, very annoying.

    Hard to say, I manage to do it on my first try just throwing the pebble at a generator. I wouldn't be surprising if it was buggy for other players though.

    It should also count for pallets and lockers if you ask me.I think it'd be pretty good if Diversion could automatically home in on gens, vaults, pallets, and lockers when used near them, to make it less obviously fake.

    I got it first try. I made sure not to just throw in the direction, but actually make sure the gen and vault were in clear line of sight because I wasn't sure how precise i had to be. So I did it to a gen sitting in the open and to the vault in shack.

    I stopped repairing the gen and threw the pebble immediately while being the closest to it. Worked like a charm. I suspect this is one of those bugged challenges.

    You MUST put some distance between you and the generator. It took me 3 games of trying to throw it directly onto a gen, and I stood back 15-20 meters and it gave me the progress.

    I also did it with some distance at a window.

    This mentioned tip is important that you throw in a slight right angle from your looking direction.

    Got it on PS4 1st try and on PC second try.

    Thanks everyone who answered! YEa, I did finally get it by walking right up to a generator and throwing it directly at it. So finicky.
