The second iteration of 2v8 will be available shortly - find out more information here: https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/kb/articles/480-2v8-developer-update

Dead by daylight 2... It's not yet coming, but what are your expectations?

As much as I would love to see DBD 2, I know it's not coming even in the recent future.

But let's imagine it is... What are your expectations? Or what do you want to see in a sequel?

Personally:

  1. First and foremost - Account progress. (Skins, levels, currency, etc...)
  2. Obviously - all characters from DBD, imported into DBD 2. (Licenses too)
  3. Updated engine. (Graphics, physics, etc...)
  4. Gameplay changes. (Side objects for survivors and killers, maybe even completely different main objectives)
  5. New stuff on the map, that survivors can use against killers. (On Nostromo map we've had some traps on the ship, that can be used to slow down killers)
  6. Secrets and easter eggs within maps.
  7. A continuation of the game's lore. (Stories about survivors and killers, or even Entity realm)

I love this game, so I want it to feel the same, even with all those "personal wants".

But not how Blizzard did with Overwatch 2... (If you know what I mean)

Talking about it can potentially help the Developers to get the idea of what it's community want from such a BIG announcement.

In these cases I always wonder what decision they would make to sunset the first episode.

There are always those who do not like sequels. Especially with the introduction of side objectives the sequel could turn out to be an entirely different game.

So with all the enhancements you say what would happen to DbD 1?

I did not follow what happened to Overwatch 1 so some of you guys already know what companies do in such cases in the genre.

Well, basically DBD1 will be replaced with DBD2 (I suppose thats how it works with online games)

Blizzard with Overwatch... Oh.. Man... In short - that was really bad.=)

You can check it yourself, coz it's gonna be a loooong writing.

First and foremost, a match replay & recording system. Get this burden off of the players and revamp the reporting accordingly.

    Better Animations

Return to the OG horror aesthetic visually.

    No daytime maps

A much better variation of maps and variations thereof.

Survivors with a set base perk and a smaller more impactful variety of interchangeable perks

Emotes in like with the mobile version

    Look back button

    Push to run /crouch

    Secondary objectives

Most of this can be incorporated into DBD1 to be fair.

Was this comment really necessary in this thread? Like… at all?!

  • mikewelk
    mikewelk Member Posts: 1,669

Was this discussion even necessary? All people are going to say is better animations, better diversity, better weather system, etc. All predictable. It's like asking if you could make the perfect DBD, would you improve every element of the game or not.

Id rework the survivor and killer makeups.

    Survivors:

Survivors have 2 perks instead of 4 but each character has there own individual speciality (built in perk) such as boost to gen speed, healing, slightly quicker movement, dead hard etc.

    Killers:

Killers have 2 perks and built in mini perks Id utilise the killers body size and strength for the mini perk.

Small Killers - Smaller TR, Faster vault but slower break action.

Medium size killers - Slightly quicker gen kick

Large killers - Break pallets much quicker and 2% chance of mangled effect per melee hit. Consequently have a larger TR

All characters have a prestige section with challenges associated with that character, i.e

    Oni

    * X number of downs with demon strike

    * X number of sacrifices

    * Run X number of meteres in demon dash.

Completing these earn new cosmetics, moris etc

Would have a FPP (First person perspective) mode for survivors.

Game as a Service model don't follow the sequel pattern of traditional games. They continue to update the game for years until the fanbase diminishes. Then in a desperate grasp at one last money grab they might have a "2" quickly put together.

I don't know if there will be a DbD2. This game has so many iconic franchises. A sequel would either get rid of those licenses and start fresh or risk losing them in the transition. I think we are here for the long haul.

My hope for DBD2 is that it never becomes a thing because I'm certain that they'll mess up the core gameplay one way or another.

#1 is cross-progression of all DLC and outfits. If we have to rebuy all the characters and outfits brand new, I'm out.

Again, if a lot of people do not like the sequel DbD 1 will probably remain. At least without seasons just with server support.

Re Blizzard: Since neither Overwatch has campaign content with cinematics, Blizz already lost me there.

This thread is supposed to be a what-if, changes & features players fantasize about being included. So doable, questionable, far-fetched, horrible, and impossible are all fair game.

    It will never happen.

It would divide the players between both games and is a huge risk if it doesn't work. For some reason DbD is the only asymmetric games still alive. BHVR already tried another (Death Garden) and it didn't make it.

DbD is all we have and the only way forward is iterative improvements.

It’s just there as a fun little discussion, people have different things they care about and want to see improved. No harm being done. You on the other hand come here to drag the thread, the OP and the devs down, being a negative Nancy. There is enough threads to critique the game/how things are handele. This very thread was none of them.

A well-balanced game, honestly. Currently, it's a complete ######### show of killers dominating most matches versus solo queue to account for the few matches in which you'll face off against a premade. I find zero interest in touching this game outside of rifts and events with the one-sided shift the game wants to take. The game becomes too easy to simply win if you want it badly enough on the killer end of things, while in solo queue, you'll still sit on three gens per match on average, regardless of teammate contribution.

Probably no more hooks it's outdated mechanic, no hooks to camp it can solve camping/tunneling at the same time, just die and respawn or something like that, entity gives you another chance

Instead of participating in the thread, you decide to reply to me about how my opinion is dragging people down. I get it, the truth hurts, but DBD 2 is a lost cause. I wish it wasn't, but oh well. I'm not going to falsely hope. Instead of fantasizing about DBD 2, why not ask for improvements mentioned here in the feedback and suggestions threads? If we're going to be stuck in the same game, why not make it as good as possible instead of dreaming about a not even rumoured sequel saving us?

Well I can argue that it WILL happen at some point, not even will - it must.=)

As I said on the other thread (a little different): "The gaming industry not standing still and making improvements to it's engine. Successful games should follow the time and do the same."

Why it would divide playerbase? They can basically make a completely the same gameplay wise game but with better graphics and much easier code. Wouldn't players just go there?

(I mean Death Garden was a completely different game, it doesn't even felt like dbd)

Dbd is "somewhat" ok with the time being, but not for long imo.

  • drsoontm
    drsoontm Member Posts: 4,901

To improve then engine, they "only" need to compile the game with the last version (current being 5.3). Plus the changes relative to the API of course.

It would divide the player base because some would stay here and some would move out, unless they stop the DbD servers.

Either it's a different game and it will most likely fail like all not-DbD asymmetric games, either it will be DbD and then simply doing incremental changes is enough. (Better graphics, new mechanic, ...)

Look at CS2 : it's basically CSGO with better graphics and minor changes. How is that going? (Not too well last time I've checked, there is a lot of complains about the changes and the loss of content.)

Well you didn’t participate either. And I wanted to point out that you were really rude and disrespectful.

and no the ‚truth‘ doesn’t hurt me - i don’t expect a DbD2 at all, but as the OP already said, this is a „let’s imagine“ thread. You should have gone into Feedback & Suggestions instead of telling others who are trying to have a fun time to stop that.

If only. Im sure a lot of people would be thrilled if DBD 2 came with actual good optimization.

I know you gave out points, but even if they did something like "paint a picture on this canvas 5 times" (yeah yeah, ik, it's stupid, but it's the only thing that came to my mind and it still proves my point) what's to stop them from just making it skill check simulator again? And if they switch killer powers in DBD2, why not just do it in 1?

Just like Overwatch, they didn't need to make a sequel, but they did, and they just did balance changes and new heroes that could've been implemented in OW1

Well I can argue that it WILL happen at some point, not even will - it must.=)

This really depends on your timeline. I think DbD still has a lifetime of 5 to 10 years. The game will inevitably die, that is inescapable, but its got a ways.

Maybe by the time it does the creators will just sell the rights to a different company and who knows what will get.

Why it would divide playerbase? They can basically make a completely the same gameplay wise game but with better graphics and much easier code. Wouldn't players just go there?

Because people would need to buy it, and some people won't do that (the alternative is switching to a FtP model, which, yeah, that has problems of its own). I can see the threads now of people complaining about paying for a new base game because BHVR is greedy that they expect their players to buy a new game that is just a repeat.

You also talked about carrying over skins and licenses, which every player would like and expect. There are two problems:

1: Legal issues. Its likely that the licenses only apply to DbD, not any future successor. So the idea of just letting players keep their licenses is outside BHVR's control.

2: Financial reality. A complete code/graphics overhaul would require lots of work on the cosmetics. It would seem crazy to consider this from a business standpoint without the possibility of a return.

    -

On the original post, the things I'd hope for are a continuation of the lore of the game. Otherwise, I suspect DbD 2 would look substantially different from the current game. Like we're no longer talking about things like generator speed and side objectives, we might be talking about whether those elements would even remain in the game. If they get to the point that they decide to do a DbD 2, I'd hope they'd rebuild the game from the ground up. Keep the general concept, but look into entirely new ideas on how to do it.
