What's going on with gens lately?

For real, I've been having some trials in which I am putting a lot of pressure, like, 2 minutes into the match I've already hook 3 different survivors, and still 3 gens pop like magic. No, I don't have proof. I don't know how to record matches and I'm not sure I'm interested in recording them anyway, but yeah. Yesterday specifically I had a match in which they were being downed one after the other and still gens were being repaired nonstop.

Thing is, most of the times, there was at least one survivor trying to prevent me from hooking their teammates, which in turn was downed, so while I was hooking that one, they rescued the other. How in heavens could they still do gens so fast and efficiently? And I doubt it's high MMR because survivors are actually quite bad. Damn, when I play survivor and on the rare ocassion I loop the killer for a couple minutes, one, maybe two gens get repaired at most.

What else do you want people to do?

Between the Devs nerfing every viable survivor perk in sight and killers non stop crying and throwing hissy fits about any thing that is half way decent, this is the end result.

Also, the really smart players will let a gen over 50% go and start another one. Killers will waste A LOT of time patrolling that area.

Try to find a way to record these tougher matches and people here can advise you.

From monday to thursday, games tend to be harder, because a lot of people who play this days actually play DbD a lot, are more experienced and know how to be efficient. On weekends it gets a little calmer. During the event, there were days I played were many, many matches in a row had survivors doing 3 gens simultaneously at the start of the game, but then the weekend came and it was far less stressful.

It sounds like you ran into one or multible cheaters. Other then that, those numbers wont match up by simple math.

There are also times where the gens actually do go that fast, but neither can be confirmed nor denied without video to run it back and count. There's room for both.

If you can get a video of a game that would help people give you more advice

Playing Killers that give side objectives to Survivors helps a bit like Sadako, Pinhead, Wesker etc.

The intended slowdown that devs had for Killers was spreading injuries and Survivors spending time to heal each other. This was somewhat nullified by MFT + Resilience, meaning Survivors ignored healing to do gens faster.

With the upcoming MFT changes. Survivors who are less confident about their chase capability without the 3% unconditional haste boost will probably opt to heal before doing gens.

There is in fact no non-hackable way 3 gens can pop in 1-2 minutes while a killer chases one survivor. So no it doesn’t go both ways.

  • Ryuhi
    Ryuhi Member Posts: 3,882

I mean, 2 minutes is 120 seconds while it takes 90 seconds to finish a gen, so yes it is absolutely possible for 3 gens to pop in that time assuming survivors dont spawn right next to each other. I figured you meant 1-2 minutes as a range, not that 1 minute was an expectation (because yes, that wouldnt even be possible with BNPs and perfect rng.)

So again, yes, it does go both ways.

    appleas Member Posts: 1,129

Yes, confident Survivors would continue to push gens because they know they could loop the Killer for a bit even if they got caught.

Survivors less confident in chase had a bit of boost to get to a pallet or window with MFT + Resilience, not to mention the boost to gen repair, which incentivized not healing. Once these Survivors start losing more chases because of greeding gens, they will opt to heal over rushing gens.

So when it comes to repair time you have to account for survivors 1.) finding gens, 2.) initiating repairs, 3.) the killer finding one survivor to chase who hasn’t started a gen, and all of these factors increase the time it would theoretically take to finish those gens. It’s not a flat 90 seconds and a scenario where three gens are completed in two minutes would mean that three survivors all start repairing generators at the exact same time within literal seconds of the game starting. The only other way this could be feasible is that the killer is so bad he didn’t find a survivor before three of them at least halfway finished three different generators. It’s extremely unrealistic either way. So… no. It doesn’t.

OP claims he got 3 people within 2 minutes and still 3 gens poped.. Sorry but its either hack or nonsense.

It sounds like a time management issue more than anything else or it's just matchmaking pitting you up against good teams that you're not equipped to contend with. Obviously, bothering survivors off gens prevents them from doing them and failing to do so can make games end super quick. It's best to not be hard on yourself or blame the game too much if you can help it. Just do the best you can do and try to have fun, it's normal to struggle sometimes.

So here's my unwarranted advice; you can use perks like Tinkerer, Discordance, Lethal, Corrupt, Deadlock, Sloppy Butcher, Surge, Pain Resonance, Ruin, etc. to help slow the game down or to point you in the right direction and perks like Bamboozle, Brutal, Enduring, Blood Favor, Crowd Control, Save the Best for Last, Coup de Grace, I'm All Ears, etc. to speed up your chases and help you to keep pace with the survivors.

Something like Brutal, Enduring, Agitation, and Tinkerer is really nice and doesn't require paying the big bucks, though it's not what you'd really call a strong loadout. Another something like Blood Favor, Undying, Ruin, Corrupt Intervention is a comfy, yet competitive loadout that can really speed up your first chase and it can easily keep you afloat throughout the midgame if the hexes stay up and you play into it.

idk if you read this hopefully it kinda helps at least a little bit

Nah cause same. The teams I’ve been getting have been some efficient mfs. xD

I’ve had to throw a couple slow down perks back on.

He even says he needed to pressure better in this video.

He's running a build that he got nearly no value out of. He never kicks a gen, so NTH is a dead slot, NOED is a just running 3 perks until the gens are done anyway, there was exactly one heal for total sloppy value, and the survivors played smart and ran away from gens so Jolt/Surge basically got no value either. He's also got no information to go by and wanders a lot at the start and after a hook until he lucks into a chase.

    • 0:41 gen 1 complete. Two survivors spawned together and did the nearest gen, likely using BNP or at least one toolbox.
    • 1:11 first hook, Jolt hits only the gen on top of the building that Carlos got chased off of, so the gen with the least progress.
    • 1:41 gen 2 complete. One survivor with no gen speed did this solo and had yet to be pressured since the beginning of the game here.
    • 2:15 gen 3 complete. Nea/Feng likely did most of this together until one of them peeled off for the save. I'll point out that this gen was about 1:30 after gen 1, so might have been just Nea with her toolbox while Feng got the unhook. Again, neither of these two have been pressured at all yet by the killer and we haven't seen them.
    • 2:26 Carlos is healed, possibly by both Feng and nea if they all finished gen 3 together and then immediately went to heal him, or maybe just by Feng while Nea did the gen. Edit: Nea is running We'll Make it, and likely did the unhook and heal while Feng finished the gen, it also fits the timing better.
    • 2:33 second hook. Kate ran to the edge of the map and he got no Jolt value.
    • 2:56 third chase starts. I mention this because he spent more than 20 seconds wandering blindly because he has no information, but manages to find Carlos and briefly Nea who mends and then leaves.
    • 3:02 Feng gets the unhook. This is the best pressure all game since Carlos is in chase, Nea is running from the guard, and Feng just unhooked Kate. There are zero survivors on gens at this moment.
    • 4:04 Feng and Kate finish the gen close to Kate's hook, and they don't waste time healing Kate here. Likely no toolbox used since I think they used both of theirs already.
    • 4:20 Feng tries to body block for Carlos, unsuccessfully. I'll also point out Feng takes no hit here either and he doesn't use a guard to zone Carlos at all during this chase
    • 4:43 Hook 3, Carlos 2nd hook. Again no Jolt value on this down, and this chase started at 2:56, so nearly 2 full minutes, where he barely touched his power and got zero perk value here. Nothing to help him in chase at all, although he plays around the pallets pretty well. In those 2 minutes the other 3 have minimal pressure, and Feng voluntarily joins chase here.
    • 4:52 5th Gen pops from Nea and Kate, Nea procs adrenaline.

And I'll also point out that despite these mistakes, and him essentially playing perkless and without using his killer power most of the game, it still ends in a draw with 2 kills.

I definitely agree that videos like this showcase well how insane gen speeds can be, and that complaints about gen speeds aren't just because of skill issues. It's just a shame tru3 has to be such a disrespectful person.

That's what happens when survivor's objective is generator only.

Unless all survivors (except the person who is getting chased) sit on multiple gens efficiently, you are not playing killer without any slowdown ability or very powerful chase ability, gens will pop quicker than you expect.

    Which results stacked slowdown perks.

  • DyingWish92

3 gens can easily pop within 1 minute and 30 seconds while a killer chases one survivor if 3 survivors are on 3 separate gens. If the killer doesn't have deadlock and survivors have toolboxes or bnps it's more then possible.

Thanks everyone, I'll try using some slowdown perks, though I'm really not a fan of them. About the times I gave, yeah, it's an estimate, could be more, could be less. But really, playing as demo, I remember that match quite well. The Knight's map. I placed a portal right upon starting and when I was leaving the area I caught a Bill who was coming straight to me. There's no way the whole chase could have lasted for more than a minute, because he made many mistakes. I got the first hit free, then he run and tried to loop me across one of those lame structures that are on the edges of some maps, went for a vault and got caught. When I was going to hook him came another survivor, tried to blind me, took a hit, stayed trying to blind me, I hooked the Bill and proceeded to down the flashlight one not long after. While I was hooking that one, the Bill got rescued. Not long after that, 3 gens go pop. In fact, I reported them as hackers because honestly I thought that was the case, since survivors were being hooked quite fast I thought there was NO way they could have done gens. Specially after watching a video someone posted in the forums a few days ago of some subtle cheaters. There have been some other games quite similar to that, though not so fast, but I now doubt they were hackers.

For example Hawkins Lab. As long as there is one survivor I'm not seeing I am certain gens will be done because that map is huge, but I focused on the three survivors that were swarming me and I got a few hooks. Not complaining. Well, maybe a bit about the size of the map, but that was my choice. But I feel like if I leave these survivors to try and find the gen being done more gens will be done instead, so not really sure what to do.

Anyway, thanks, truly, to everyone who has stopped here to leave an opinion and advice. <3

I still love the game, and I still enjoy it in this case, it's just I was truly surprised by how fast gens are being done lately.

Cool write up, but my point was how fast 3 gens can pop, nothing more. You're welcome for having something to dissect to miss the point.

It's happened to scott as well, he even went on to emphasize how it didn't instantly lose the match for him:

Your 'how fast gens can go' point is that, yes, if the killer puts zero pressure on two entire survivors, then, shockingly, they do 4 gens in about 4 minutes.

Because that's how 90 second gens work with 2 people not being pressured at all.

  • Ryuhi

ex...actly? I was refuting a claim that it was impossible without hacks.

    I agree

Killers will hook and slug but surviviors are wrong for doing gens? There team mate will be tunneled off their first hook so gens need to be done!

I play solo q and NO ONE is bullying the killer or slamming gens, and I've got over 100 hours in game
