Prepping for a Con with the kids
My kids and I go to Freecon in Tallahassee every year. Each year they dress up. This year, they’ve chosen to go as Legion and Trapper.
So we bought some basic masks from Hobby Lobby and started the process on their masks.
1. Basic Masks
2. First layer of paper mache applied.
3. First layer of paper mache dried.
Not too bad looking. They did a fine job for their first use of paper mache.
4. Paper matched layer number two.
Another fun step for the boys. Wider pieces set more carefully to try and make the dried result smoother.
5. Two layers of paint each. The Legion mask was covered in Semi-Gloss white paint, and Trapper is covered in two layers of a multi-colored textured outdoor finish.
I’ll be editing this as the following steps are finished.

Legion is finished. Two coats of white semi-gloss paint, a plastic knife, some red paint, a simple expo marker, and a $17 jacket completed the ensemble. Trapper will benfinished in the next few days.

Looking good, atleast the rest of the legion costumes wasnt hard to do😉 But its missing the legion pin
You might leave the knives at home or the car tho, i heard some cons got stricter with props.
And kids find ways to expose themselves to stuff. Oh the good old Hellsing on VIVA lol.

The one we’re going to is fine with them so long as they’re plastic.it was bought from the dollar store and just painted. I hadn’t actually thought about the pin! I’ll have to see if I can make one...

How'd you do the teeth for the Trapper mask? Did you just cut into the mask with scissors shaping the teeth? These are awesome masks, great job I'm sure your boys love them :) great parenting.

I cut out the mouth then used the pieces I cut out to cut into different shapes triangles for the teeth. I got clued the teeth to the back of the mask so the poked over the line of the mouth to give the mask some added depth. I’ll take a picture of the back of the mask tomorrow and post it.

Trapper’s Bear trap is coming along nicely. Won’t look exactly like the one in game because it’ll be getting carried for a few hours so we have to make it as light as possible. But it WILL be able to open and close.

Bear Trap is finished. Trapper’s hatchet is finished. Going to be good times.

As promised (though delayed). The inside of the Trapper mask. Pieces cut out of the remains of the mouth, cut into shapes for teeth and hot glued to the inside of the mask to give the illusion of layered depth.
The pad at the top of the mouth is a few fingers from a work glove and wrapped in a thin layer of bubble wrap. My son had worn it for a while and that keeps it comfortabl where all that pressure would be.
The back parts of the mask are made the same way as the mask itself and linked with paracord. The frayed bits at the knots will be burned down with a lighter to clean it up.

Well, apparently the kids weren’t exactly happy the just them dressing up. Sooooooo.... I’ll be going as Michael Myers and my wife will be going as Huntress.
Luckily (depending on your perspective of course) we live where hurricane Michael made landfall... so there are plenty of places around that sell work jumpers right now.
So! I though a simple bloodline/spatter would be good for Michael’s mask.
And for the Huntress, we have the (quickly) finished mask and hatchet:

And now some pictures from the con. The kids had lots of people taking pictures with them. They also managed to scare some guy shitless when he opened a door they were about to walk through. Fun times!
