Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Cross-Progression Is FAR More Difficult Than People Give It Credit For...

I know this topic has been talked about a lot but I feel as if it is still worth talking about.

NOTE THAT A LOT OF THIS INFORMATION COMES FROM EXTERNAL SOURCES.

Cross-Progression really needs to make it's appearance in DBD so people can access the content they have acquired across platforms; and like many other games, this includes account merging to add progress from two accounts on different platforms to compensate for the lack of Cross-Progression over an extended period of time.

We've seen the old DBD Twitter post that is a few years old relating to Cross-Progression "coming out soon" only for nothing to really come from it and the developer blog post to actually be deleted or pulled (the link in the Twitter post leads to a dead end).

Recently, we've seen other games get Cross-Progression, e.g. Warframe which leads me to ask why we dont have Cross-Progression... and the answer... it's not that simple.

We've seen a lot of feedback from the developers saying that they would love to add Cross-Progression but there are aspects of it that are out of their control; to put it bluntly, BHVR has to sign contracts and legal agreements between the companies to make sure everything works properly and to make sure that all platforms are satisfied with the results, and if one of those companies ends up pulling out there isnt much that BHVR can do.

This is far more complex than people give is credit for.

When Rocket League was getting it's Cross-Play/Cross-Progression, apparently Microsoft had massive security requirements for their game in order to get Cross-Play/Cross-Progression ready, in fact it had higher security requirements than literally all the other companies they had to work with which results in them putting in a massive amount of work.

And recently with the Epic Games VS Apple lawsuit, information regarding Cross-Progression and Sony was released which suggested that Epic Games' legal agreement forced them to provide exclusive content to the platform on top of forcing them to pay fees to make up for the damages of Playstation Players make purchases on other players that exceeds a certain % of profit threshold.

When Cross-Progression is being added, it affects all companies involved in many ways:

~ Player Security becomes harder to manage since the platforms a mixed which means that moderation is harder for all companies. It becomes more difficult to punish a player on one platform for their actions on another platform.

~ Players can spend money on any platform which can result in less profits for a certain company that otherwise wouldnt have Cross-Progression. This can tank stuff like Stock/Share prices and negatively impact the company, so stuff has to be in place to help with that.

~ Literally any other factor we are not aware of, such as compatibility issues or loss of information, etc.

Before people get their pitchforks and torches ready to blame a company or something, the only people who have real access to that information is BHVR and they may not be allowed to speak on that due to legal contracts, we REALISTICALLY have no idea which company is causing the issue with Cross-Progression.

Given all of this information, it can be difficult for BHVR to approach Cross-Progression, and in a recent survey, we have seen some attempts to tackle the idea with potential or temporary solutions, e.g. Cross-Progression will only carry over ingame purchases and not anything that involves DLC bundles; Prestige Progress is carried over, just not the characters.

Because of this, I dont think BHVR should get the harassment it does regarding Cross-Progression, they really are trying their best but I think people need to realize that some aspects are going to be out of their control, that is just how it is.

I have been saying similar things for years now, but you said it so much more eloquently and with better explanation overall.
