I miss old dbd...
New dbd is great don't get me wrong but old dbd was so much more fun, it was the reason I started playing and fell in love with the game I miss old hex ruin, old ds, I miss the old atmosphere but most importantly I miss how people used to play.
And I played both killer and survivor 50/50 and never really thought the game was bad for either side just really laggy but it was worth it.
And I know the dev team is trying their hardest to make the game fun for everyone but right now the game is to killer sided and before you come for me I still play both 50/50.
Anyone else feel the same?

I really miss the DBD I loved. The atmosphere, perks, powers and, more than anything else, my beloved Old Freddy.
That was the DBD I want to play.

Here is where we disagree.

I agree, it was much more fun before (even if it had flaws in some mechanics).
For example, the atmosphere of the old maps was 100 times better than the current one (I'm not talking about the infinite ones).
But new players (and content creators) wanted bright maps and now we have "modern" Coldwind Farm. Aside from a couple of dead animals and some dirt in the house... it seems like a nice place to retire🤣
Devs, please do your own thing and don't listen to everything they ask you to do
Fortnite did the "OG season"... why can't DBD do it too?

New dbd is boring , I can't stand playing more then a few matches before I switch games it doesn't matter what role I'm playing either, the devs thought matches were too short years ago and found ways to actively extend the match with regression, added gen times, secondary challenges etc.. but they didn't add anything of value for that time it's just the same old thing drug out for longer instead of adding something new to make that time consumed not feel like a snoozefest holding m1 or boring challenges you have to hinder your team to complete, I'd like to go back right before they changed movement and added the icons in game that's when it seemed to take the biggest nosedive I can think of in the game

I miss the old friendship you could have with survivors. Pretending to serve drinks in the saloon and survivors queuing up to get a drink.
Now if you try that you get t-bags and flashlights.
Toxic behaviour has taken a good game and flushed it down the toilet.

Sucks. If I want a killer match where I don't have to play like my life is on the line I have to play a killer I never play or not good at.
Try one of my mains, forget it. Thank you SBMM. And ftr I only win most of my games to clumsy survivor mistakes. I'm not a high mmr monster like the game thinks I am.

Depending on how they do it, this would be awesome!
1 -
killer sided? xD sure it is ahahahahha
8 -
now that you mention this, i havent seen something lile this in at least 2 years :/
2 -
Aside from the aesthetics, there's little I miss about the gameplay of old DbD.
People look at classic DbD with very rose-tinted glasses IMO.
13 -
same, i notice i play at most 3 matches a day and then i'm just like "nah, not worth it any longer" and switch to literally anything else. it got so bad it made me return to league of legends, which i quit about 2.5 years ago...
4 -
I still really miss old movement wish they would’ve ended up making animations a client sided thing if you prefer either or
4 -
Fog, tints, ranks were all far better. Played 4 games as Oni last night, only won 1 and had to sweat my pecs off to win it.
7 -
There's nothing from old dbd that i miss as it was all worse in every aspect, i say good riddance to it all and hope none of it ever returns.
Can't wait for them to get rid of the last remnants of old dbd still remaining in the game.

Everyone looks back at the past with rose tinted glasses, no matter how flawed it was. The worst change BY FAR is the community, and the way it ended up was basically completely out of the devs control.
DbD's toxicity has devolved from generic ingame bm to everyone thinking theyre entitled to a win every game, and if not they lost to subtle cheaters, (not claiming they dont exist, but 99% of the time its just pure copium) and because of the above some even resort to spend money on a monthly subscription to rage hack.
The community was so much better at handling all the bs that was thrown at us, and its something I know aint coming back anytime soon.

As a killer, i actually had a challange.
As a survivor, we actually had fun.
Watching the old videos we recorded (i have hundreds of them flying around on my D: ) makes it even more apparent why old DBD was so much better in almost every regard.

Honestly, same.
Unfortunately I don't have my own footage (and I wish I had because it would help me a lot in discussions about Old Freddy), but I watch a lot of Old DBD content and it only proves the fact that it was a better game.
Was there things that had to be changed? Yes, no one will ever deny it. But it went too far, it was too much. Countless things should have been left alone, but weren't.

I only played since 2021 but i don't really understand how people can think old dbd (i am thinking 2017-2019) was a better designed game. I can understand enjoying the game more, but i can't understand thinking it was a better made game.
I wasn't playing then as i said but i have done research.
There was loads of overpowered things like 1 hook moris, decisive strike not having the deactivation conditions, object of obsession.
Map balance looked bad to me. Pallets were everywhere and there was a lot of crazy window loops. Nurse and Spirit were stronger.
The atmosphere i guess i can understand.

As @GeneralV already said, there were things that had to be changed, but they went to far with other stuff. Not everything was perfect by any means. But if you ask me, 2018-2020 was still the best years this game ever had. I would gladly take that version instead of what we have now. If they change just a few of the BS things like Insta Heal or Mori, it would have been close to perfect.
4 -
but they went to far with other stuff
Can you give some examples?
1 -
Maps. They removed connected tiles basically completly. Loops were changed to silly "Stand-Off Pallets". Palet count is probably not even half at this point.
Killer. While nerfing the maps tremendously, they kept buffing killer more and more with very rare exceptions. And on top of that, they added more and more opporessive killer kits that dont even feel like DBD anymore. The Knight or Twins for example. A big reason why everybody is now drop & W. Not playable anymore.
Artstyle. The feeling of the game in general. How the maps looked and how they look now. They used to be so spooky, now they are closer to Fortnite then old DBD.
Ranking. MMR is completly unproductive in a fun game like DBD. Because of that, people take the game more serious. Old ranking was designed to be a decent killer / survivor and do things to please the entity. Many hooks, many chases, many generators, helping teammates. Look at it now.
Just to name a few things.
8 -
Having those OP things made the game more interesting in certain aspects though, games didn't last as long and you could switch killers in lobby to deal with a squad you know is gonna give you a problem. Both sides had some OP things that needed changed but there were alot of things that nobody asked for that got changed along with it that was overall unhealthy for the game and created alot of the problems were seeing now with gen times and regression, the devs can't make their mind up and keep trying to tweak it thinking it's still a good idea but at some point you have to say trying the same solution over and over again and expecting a different outcome is insanity, it was a bad idea to create stalemate scenarios over gens instead of just creating entirely new objectives that coincide with generators or escaping in general and be something different to take that time up
4 -
Also object of obession worked through pigs crouch and wraiths cloak before undetectable was added
0 -
But not on Freddy if survivors weren't asleep :)
1 -
Everything I've read about old DBD before I joined on Sadako's release made me extremely happy I waited to get into this game.
7 -
Eh ive started playing around the end of 2019 and I will say depending on "old" dbd I will not go back to those days unless it's for billy. Every iteration of the game has had some very annoying perk combos but back then it was even worse with the old maps.
2 -
Sure I miss old DBD, apart from:
- Original 1-click BNP
- 0 hook moris
- Insta heals that were actually instant and healed two health states
- Omegablink Nurse (or old Nurse in general)
- Prayerbeads Spirit
- Old Iri Head
- Double-pallet loops, impossible jungle gyms and true infinites
- Old DS / hook juggling
- Old Object of Obsession *shudders*
- Keys + multiple escapes through hatch before gens were done
- Moonlight offerings that made the game unplayably dark
- Old Haddonfield
- Old Cowshed
- Original Pale Rose
- Stretched res
- Old Wraith before his many buffs
- Old BT that protected the unhooker as well and was tied to the terror radius
- Old Doctor with the stance switching
- Old Freddy the DC magnet and overall cure for insomnia
- Old Bubba that didn't even have charges to his power
- Old Clown that only had 1 type of bottle
- Original MoM
- Fugly-ass old graphics and animations (muh atmosphere)
- Trap sabotage (and Trapper in general before his many buffs)
- Permanent hook sabotage
- Old sluggish killer animations that lasted twice as long (hooking survivors, setting traps, etc.)
- Old bloodwebs that were slooooooooooooow and took a million years to level your characters
- Mega bloodweb clutter with three rarities of map offerings
- Peer to peer matchmaking so you had to re-invite everyone in your group every time the killer dodged
- Actual facecamping with hooks that didn't swivel
- Clunky old animations like full hook patdowns even if you cancelled the interaction
To name but a few things.
On second thoughts, the only thing I miss is all the people I used to play with who abandoned the game because of everything that was wrong with it back then.

Ugh old DBD. I certainly don't miss the days of being stuck on a generator with someone who keeps the gen from ever progressing with ruin, or trying to play killer when EVERY player had extra health states in the first chase because EVERYONE had DS.
1 -
I remember the days of tapping gens
0 -
I think you should specify "days of tapping against the original ruin" because the days of general gen tapping only "ended" one or two weeks ago 😁
0 -
This game is def not killer sided...
0 -
Now more gamemodes are confirmed, maybe one day we'll get one with old graphics and animations.
I doubt it, but would be nice. Could be done as an event, mabye.
1 -
I do miss some things but mostly it's more that you get bored playing same game year after year. Most things about the game is better today.
0 -
Ah the good old days where DS was free escape (for X years) for everyone and was picked by like 3 people every game for your first pick up after you win a chase, not evening hooking Lmao.
Good old days where Killers could insta mori you, tunnel much faster with no protections and 0 clue on what Survivors in soloQ are doing with no icons.
Great days where we had much less new perks and killers to play with and less maps to play on.
Days where med-kits would insta heal you and brand new parts insta repair gens. Where Bubba was awfull before his rework, etc. Where maps and Killers, perks unbalance was much greater, where keys were free escape with 0 counters, with old BT to rush for hooks and free escape, etc.
I don't think I have to continue, you got my point.

SBMM ruined DBD. I already made a post about it. Emblem Rank, and pipping was better imo.
After adding SBMM I can play 10 matches on each side. As survivor whenever I solo my teammates are always terrible. 7/10 matches I will die because of them. Without even getting 3 generators done… Then as killer the teams I face are always overly coordinated while slamming gens simultaneously. 7/10 matches 2-4 survivors will escape. I can never break even on both sides like I once could. Even when I try really hard. It doesn’t matter.
From my personal experience… With Emblem Rank DBD was fun while being frustrating some of the time. After they added SBMM DBD has become frustrating while being fun some of the time...

Don't forget
- Hatch standoffs
- Old prestige that removed everything you had saved
- Old Spirit's phasing sound being directionless so that people were forced to play the guessing game
- Old Deathslinger's ADS speed that was used in chase to create lose lose situations for the Survivor
- Original depips having no checkpoints and could undo all the ranks you've already reached
- Original ranks rewarding up to a max of 250K only
- Every QOL features and changes that people have been asking for a long time that didn't exist yet back then such as bots, loadout preset, standard video game options along with more accessability options and so many more
- Pallet Vacuum
- Old Dead Hard
- Older versions of maps such as Red Forest ones that were way bigger in size than they are now
- Locker flashlight stun
- Lightburn's general existence
- Bloodpoint limit being set to 1 mil max
- The killswitch feature not existing

I miss the aesthetics of the older maps and some of the more unpredictable chaos, but not a great deal else. What's made it more problematic isn't the older version of the game, but the attitude of the playerbase in general.
There are many decent people out there pkaying this, but it's become a game whereby being a twat, insulting others and generally streaming like a toxic prick has become increasingly more common, and that's really sad to see. Not to say it hasn't happened in the past, but it's more prominent nowadays.
I feel the gold standard was from around Ghost Face and Stranger Things to Silent Hill. That era was good, but before that it was worse and compared to now the game feels a lot better compared to then. At least for me personally.

Nostalgia is a hell of a drug

I would agree, if Freddy's rework wasn't in the middle of that. It is no secret how I feel about that patch.
But with exception of Freddy's rework and Léry's visual change, 2019 - early 2020 DBD was fire! I would be 100% willing to go further back, but that was a good time to play this game.

THIS!!!!
When stranger things chapter came out hell even when oni came out was the best time of the game everything after that until I would say chuckys release has been boring\bad
2 -
DBD being as old as it is, your "old" DBD is probably not old to some of us. Besides, the past is typically viewed through rose tinted glasses.
1 -
Man, nostalgia is one hell of a drug, lol.
The atmosphere was way better, but other than that, "old" DBD was comprehensively worse the further back you go.
People have fond memories because 6+ years ago it was novel. But it was an absolute mess in comparison to what it is now, and that's saying something.
2 -
Not even a little. The game has only gotten better of the years, sure old dbd is nostalgic, but objectively worse than current dbd
1 -
I will admit biasedly I have nostalgia for overpowered things
Like doing the last Gen in the killers face with ds
having it activate last second
2 -
Anyone who says they miss "old DBD" probably doesn't actually miss old DBD. What they really miss is the fresh experience of DBD. For someone who just started DBD, the next couple months will represent the golden age of DBD to them. No matter how good a game is, it will eventually lose its luster.
0 -
Aesthetics of the game was much better than now. Creepy sounds, dark and foggy maps, old animations, character designs felt like a true horror game. Nowadays it feels so dull and out of place.
2 -
The game was generally better balanced for the regular public match. As it stands, playing Killer is generally a snoozefest right now. It's far too easy to win 8/10 games, provided you're running a solid build on a character that's good. The only challenges I get are from SWF, and half the time, they'll throw the game for altruism, or if you're on a killer they dislike.
