To survivors who don’t soloq, and prefer to SWF, why?

My survivor main friend claims players who don’t want too soloq are pussies which I believe is arrogant. What are some of the reasons you prefer to play with friends than by yourself?

why would i want to get frustrated playing solo when I can hop in a VC and have a bit of a giggle with my friends like it's insane just how much anger annoyance and boredom can become hilarity and running jokes for months afterwards? like idgaf about winning im in it to have fun and good luck doing that in solo lmao

I play solo. Anyone who plays swf is smart. I can't commit to a swf right now otherwise I'd play in one.

SWF makes matches far more engaging. More opportunities to make plays that you probably can't do in SoloQ.

    1. It's fun to have conversations when playing.
    2. It's very nice to increase the chances of escaping from 0.006% to a solid 5%.

You can pick your teammates in a SWF. That's the strongest thing you can do on survivor. If you leave it up to the matchmaker, you're going to get someone with 1/10th of your hours who doesn't have their monitor turned on but still managed to queue up and load in.

It has nothing to do with being cowards or weak. Most SWF are actually very chill groups who just want to have some fun together.

    ^ this.

    And this ^

I rarely play dbd SoloQ, as the game have become a social thing with some freinds that i met throug dbd.

While we do encounter good SoloQ team players when we play, its a bit random, others dont care about others.

The stress and difficulty factor of the game with solo que as compared to SWF is worlds difference.

I only play Survivor in SWF because I only don’t choose Killer side when my friends are on.

Solo Q is just pure chaos.

I had two people in my game recently who had 210 and 183 hours. Against a 3k hour Wesker. It was not a bad game, but mainly because the Killer did not tunnel and those two actually did Gens. But it was clear that this was a lost game, and it is not even the fault of those two players, they were just inexperienced and ended up against a Killer they simply should not face.

In my mind VC is somewhat cheating, so I never do an SWF.

Matchmaking is so bad that I know I’m going to get a killer that matches my skill but will not reflect that of my teammates.

this has a lot to do with the time I’m playing I suspect. When I run with my SWF it’s much more balanced. A lot of close matches and zero out right loses before a gen is done.

Your friend is either goofing around or is a total life of the party.

SWF is the definitive way to play survivor. DBD works as a great social game so you can spark conversations while playing the game. The escape odds increasing from playing with friends through communication is only a bonus, it's all about the fun times and hilarious bits that happen in-game.

Most SWFs are just people chilling and playing with each other to have fun. There'll be the sweat squads every now and then to go against with hyper communication, but that's natural. We've all beaten a SWF countless times because they're just normal players, nothing to be proud of.

The only two advantages I could think of with solo queue is if you're a streamer and you want to talk to chat more while playing survivor, or if you want to listen to a podcast and play survivor at the same time.

    Because it ######### sucks!

I do gens, get saves and I still get ######### on because I don't throw myself at the killer when they ######### up and expect me to die for them.

SWF all the way and if killers don't like it they can load in a see how much of a piss take it is.

I only dont play with other people cause im shy. Ive tried a few times but I get nervous and it ends up being worse than playing solo for everyone involved @.@

It's nice to not have borderline griefers on your team every other match.

  • glitchboi
    glitchboi Member Posts: 6,023

I feel you on that. It's actually the reason why I main killer because it feels like the only viable way to play DBD in singleplayer, and because of my social anxiety I didn't have friends to really squad up with and I got anxious for being a potential reason of sabotaging my team by accident.

However since then I've come out of my comfort zone and found the perfect people to squad up with for survivor. It might be easier said than done, but you just gotta find the right people to play with! There's a lot of cool people out there that are very forgiving when it comes to survivor mistakes (in fact, every survivor makes mistakes every now and then).

Because playing with even one other person makes the highs of fun higher, and makes it easier to laugh off trash games. I sometimes play solo, the vast majority of my survivor play is duo with the same person I've played with since 2017.

I don't think I could even in theory care less if someone starts stomping around angrily because I'm not "playing properly!!" as a result.

I feel like there's no point putting effort into finding a group I'm in sync with if I can't guarantee I'll be available to play with them alot of the time.

I don't SWF (I have, but very rarely), but it's not hard to understand why:

    1. Better escape odds, more relaxed gameplay
    2. Get to play with friends and/or make new friends
    3. Not being as subject to grab bag SBMM matching you with/against gods or children playing their first ever video game

I think solo queue is probably the more "lore friendly" (as in strangers from disparate backgrounds getting dropped into the Entity's realm), and it feels more "right" to me, but people are all looking to play for different reasons, and I don't fault anyone for wanting to have fun.

Calling people pussies for not playing solo is just cringe gatekeeping.

bro SWF isn't all about trying to be the next and best comp team, its just about messing around with friends and having a good time

I like having team mates who actually do gens and go for hook saves before someone hits second stage. Not to mention its just fun to play games with your friends. Simple as that.

Kinda boring for just one of us to play while the other sits around. Or if we're both playing but in different matches, we'll get distracted looking at what's going on in the other's match. Plus, it's nice to do some teamwork and then high five after. Good times.

We're just a pair, not a 4-man, and playing in a pair is pretty much solo queue but you're sharing the pain with a buddy. We occasionally play solo, but it's rarer and rarer. For years I only played solo, before I got the game on the Switch so we could play SWF.

Didn't say anything about wanting to be a comp team, not sure where you got that from my reply. Presumably when people want to play in a swf, and you offer yourself up to be part of their swf, then you need to ensure you're available to play at the same time as everyone else. I am a stay at home mum whose kids dictate when I can and can't play.

Because it's a much better experience. The majority of my survivor playtime has been solo. Even just running a duo is much more relaxed and fun. You have someone to talk to and you know will actually do things.

its really not that complicated. its quite literally:

"ayo, anyone on who wants to play?"

    "sure"

    "sure"

    "yea gimme a sec"

boom, you are now a swf

  • edgarpoop
    edgarpoop Member Posts: 8,369

Agreed. It's not the fault of the players. Everyone is just trying to have fun at the end of the day.

It's really not that simple, unfortunately. Everyone in my usual SWF is some combination of 30+, married, and working full time. The stars have to align for all of us to be available at the same time anymore.

the best thing about SWF is not the communications (in normal games it is often not necessary), but you can perfectly control your MMR

What a weird question. That is like asking why you prefer to go to a movie with someone else. Because you enjoy being with another person.

I often play with the same teammate in the same room. Despite playing for three years, I've been knocked out first in the last 20 games, while my friend escapes through the gate or finds the hatch. Playing with someone else in the same room doesn't seem to offer a significant advantage in my experience.

I always wondered why killers often prefer solo players over groups who can communicate. Having recently started playing killer myself, I perform noticeably better in that role. I don't have a way of knowing which players are communicating in-game, regardless of their team structure.
