Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

PTB on consoles

After the optimization patch, which is going to be released, what obstacles prevent the PTBs of future chapters and mid-chapters from being released on consoles?

Each platform has a precise hardware and software system: the PC beta may not detect the bugs of the PS4, as the beta on PS4 may not be enough to prevent those on XBOX or Nintendo Switch.

Furthermore, it is unjust that a category of players is privileged in the enjoyment of new content ...

Player Test Builds for any game is practically impossible for consoles, as the game has to download files that will only be there for a short period of time for awhile.

@Chaotic_Riddle Couldn't the PS4 download the PTB patch files and then the final release patch files? During the Moonlight event there were three patches in a week...

They could either release the test build as a seperate game, case in point Pubg which includes a PTB as a seperate game, and so is updated sepertly from the main game.

While I would love to get PTBs on console, I think the PC base has that right, and exclusiveness with reason.

Most of the people on PC have been loyally playing for a long time. I don't have a problem with it.

There are alot of reasons it will never happen. Not the least of which is Sony and Microsoft both saying no to it. PUBG is kind of an odd case as it gets a PTB on Xbox but not PS4. This is most likely do to the publisher though (Microsoft publishes PUBG on Xbox).

Microsoft and Sony, if they were to even entertain the idea, would probably treat it like a new game and would review it as such. Average review time on a new game is 10 to 15 business days or 2 to 3 weeks (if everything passes). The PTBs usually last 2 weeks. So console would get the PTB after the PC, thus postponing the release of the DLC on consoles in turn as they can only submit one code for review at a time with both companies.

I believe cost might also play a factor as both companies charge for these reviews (cost determined by size of the file submitted according to my research into this and other related topics. Not a ton of info out there, but there is some).

I wish it was feasible because, as stated, PC, PS4, and Xbox are all different and a minor bug on PC can make the game unplayable on the other 2 but, sadly, it's not.

Pubg does indeed have a PTB on PS4, take it from me, I have the actual game.

I stand corrected. Thank you for the information AlphaJackson. I wonder how they got around Sony's "no ptb" stance though. Maybe Sony softened their stance? Very interesting.

The same way anyone gets around Sony's "no ___" stance: money.

I wasn't even aware of it myself until I bought the game, since they haven't appeared to advertise it at all, not even on the case of the game (since I'm a big fan of games on disk, don't judge me). It wasn't until I put the game into my console when it came up the option to download the PTB. It seem to be lacking in playerbase too, I imagine from people either not caring or not being aware.

It has nothing to do with that. Plenty of people on PS4 have been "loyally" playing for like two years now. It's because it's more complicated and they don't see it as a worthwhile investment.

How much time do we have to wait? PTB should just remove the biggest bugs: PC players have an unjustified privilege not only to play the new chapter with a huge advance, but also to determine the balance changes, while the console players are passive customers who receive a product without the concrete possibility to contribute to its adjustment. It's definitely unfair: the money is the same for everyone and the love for this game is equally distributed among PC and console players...

I'd rather wait for the PC workhorses to test all the bugs for us and when it gets released to console its all shiny and ready to go.

Don't understand the "privilege" comments for PC users, it's a PTB so anything they do during these week or 2 gets reset and all they get is to trial the killer no more than a Demo. It's really not a big thing, I usually install the PTB have a lil' play for a few hours then I don't generally load it up again.

The problem is that console updates are not like PC updates.

The obstacles are sony and microsoft, they make it a lot harder to enable beta features compared to steam

@TeambossFloze Yours is a very respectable choice, however there is a huge difference between being able to do something and deciding not to do it and, instead, not being able to do it even though you want it: in the first case you have an opportunity, which gratifies you or leaves you indifferent, in the second case you have an impediment, which leaves you indifferent or frustrates you. There is an abysmal gap between the two situations.

@Entità I think what I am trying to say, probably not quite as succinctly put as your good self, but I've played the PTB every time and you really are not missing out. It's best to kick back, put your feet up and enjoy yourself and let someone else do the ground work so you have a nice shiny DLC to look forward to.

It would be nice to have a console ptb. Unfortunately the certification process for consoles will probably prohibit this from ever happening.

The thought is nice, however, the PTB is meant to be glitchy and a WIP. Updating it would be a chore altogether, and it would likely won’t be verified on either consoles due to the major issue with company approval. Not only that, but migrating your save files from one game (vanilla) vs the other one (PTB) isn’t happening.

When I was at psx (PlayStation experience) the devs had their own version of the game with the head case installed mind you this is way before it actually came out, it also only allowed the 5 people playing it to only group into each other, so in theory it’s possible for the devs to release a ptb on console but it would be treated as it’s own game with its own updates and content only accessible for a limited time, in which certification must happen which one could say could be done a few weeks in advance assuming it’s ready but in theory it could be done.
