I think Unknown isn't as good anymore
I think Survivors got better againts him. Almost nobody hugs tiles againts him, everyone knows to go hug him if close to deny his power, most Survivors will dodge your shot from afar, his teleport feels like isn't as valueble anymore.
I gave him at release top B tier, now I think more of mid B tier at best.

I think he's more low B/top of C. The spread on the projectile is too slow to consistently hit survivors on mouse and keyboard controls. And 3 hits is really rough.

I think the effect when you apply gets removed too quickly. I would suggest either removing the extra lingering removal effect that persists once you lose line of sight of Unknown (still counts as if you were looking at him) or make it wear off few seconds extra.

A power that requires at least 3 hits and the status effect to allow his power to do damage is easily removed during chase was never going to be a strong killer.
Plus survivors can remove hallucinations reducing their ability to teleport as well.
People just didn't understand their kit very well at the start which gave the killer an advantage.

Please, try spamming m2, because you don't get any speed penalty you can get:
Free distance
Actual chance of hitting power at medium-long rangeIt completely revolutionized how I played this killer, I recommend you try this and see if you get any different results!

The trick with unnkown, is realizing that the "grenade" power is almost worthless against any decent survivor. The trick is the teleport. The teleport, combined with some kind of undetectable, is pretty strong.

Unknown is in a pretty great spot imo. You gotta play him like a weird mix of Clown and Ghost Face almost, since you gotta try to not be seen and the trajectory of the UVX feels like the bottles (to me at least). The only difference is that UVX, if done right, can down survivors.
That's just when you're in chase though. When it comes to anything else, the teleport is the biggest thing. Aura reading/Undetectable plus that near instant teleport is one of the best things with him. I'd say overall he's still low-A to high-B, but that's just my opinion.

I think he's great. He's kinda exhausting though, using all your brainpower because you can't afford to miss a single shot in chase.
Not the killer for those who suffer from performance anxiety.

I think he's in a great spot. You can do some nasty trick shots with his goo ball, and the ability to teleport instantly is nothing to snub at. He does still have good counterplay (if you couldn't dodge the goo balls or get rid of the teleport I'm not sure how any survivors would stand a chance) But still require a good amount of effort on the surv end. For example with Vecna's skeletons, a quick crouch negates that and it's not a good counter because the effort vs the value isn't fair to the killer. But the unknown you have to be mindful of where the teleport spawns are, run and look behind at the same time to watch for the goo ball, react appropriately either left of right because it can still get your through walls. He has a 64% win rate so I think he's healthy and games against him are fun.

I'd put him low B at best. I also personally just don't enjoy playing him though. I find his Weakened doesn't last long enough, and related to this, his misses are overly punishing.

The Unknown has convinced me to stop buying new chapters because they always turn out disappointing after a month or two.

Unknown is a B tier killer, his spit is situational but can also be strong when used correctly, I like to play a hit and go style with that killer where I utilize my teleports not only as a tool for sneaking up but for breaking a chase I'm not gonna fully commit to where I can infect, make them waste a resource and leave without wasting time and not giving them a chance to refresh on me during chase breaks

i wouldn't say useless. If you run save the best for last and Rapid brutality, you can direct hit shot → bounce→hit enemy then m1 them then M2. you get very quick machine gun hit.
Unknown for me is just better deathslinger. Deathslinger used to be able to do m1→m2 shot and get quick downs. Unknown grenade launcher is the same.
He also had add-on to apply free exhaust on his shots which is very strong. you just delete lithe, dead hard at no cost. Still, I think his m1 play is too weak to "get" the machine gun.
I think if he had hindered effect when survivors don't look at him while weakened, He could be decent killer. right now he's like middle of the road killer. you just don't get enough reward for his shots.

TBH, my only issue with the Unknown is that his M2 are quite punishing because you have around 3s to hit a survivor with a power in a situation where they can have clear vision of you. If his charge time for power were a little bit lower (like 0,3 to 0,5s lower) and the cd AFTER hitting a survivor a little bit lower too like, if don't hit anyone its the default 7s, if you hit someone your UVX comes back in 5,7s, he would be in the perfect spot.
Anyway, he will be quite a niche killer since he is too punishing and gimmick. BUT I LOVE THIS THING!!

My rule of thumb is to always consider a new killer at best a tier lower than everyone says they are.
Everyone was saying A tier so he's probably B tier at best. So yeah that lines up.Post edited by MrPenguin on0 -
rapid is a bad perk, and save is terrible now againt coordinated teams because the obsession can block you to the point you literally must hit them, losing stacks. at least before the nerfs, you could m2 them.

survivor bodyblocking sbtfl is basically free gen defence for unknown. in fact, it is arguably more powerful then any gen defence perk. his ranged projectile can mostly ignore bodyblockers. if the obsession so cocky to the point of unhooking then you can machine gun slug them for free slug pressure. I think it is pretty underrated for him to be able to m2→m1→m2 and down someone in <10 seconds. It is just getting initial m1 hit is rough for him. that is my take on him. The look to disable power is survivor mechanic. it should be killer mechanic that killer can profit from.

Machine gun slug them, but you still lose 4 stacks then. You must be playing against a different caliber of survivor, because losing 4 stacks in my games amounts to pretty much a loss with a dead perk.

His powers cooldown is 12 seconds so its literally imposible to what you just said. And this is coming from someone who thinks unknown is better than what people on here believe. But for a down to be that quick you have to be playing against babies first dbd match or people using 4 different types of hallucinogenic substances.

between cooldown of landing the shot, m1 & wiping your weapon, this is like 6 seconds of cooldowns. the cooldown is 12 second but it is more like a down in sub 6-7 seconds between both hits.

Yeah, i told that he is mid B tier after release while everyone put him at A. I don't know in what place he is A, because his power insanely easy to dodge in 80% of cases, his teleports are very inconsistent and you don't have them anyway against good survivors. His addons are really bad and his gameplay isn't fun (at least for me).
But many people still plays him, what surprised me, his kill rate higher than average, so devs probably think he is in fine state.2 -
I never thought he was that good tbh, and he's definitely not fun to play as.
The projectile's too easy to dodge, you have to hit them three times with it, weakened goes away quickly leaving little room for error, the bouncing of the goop tends to be more harmful than helpful, there's no real reward for a direct hit with it, etc.

Same thought tbh

I still think they're low A tier tbh.
It's still the only projectile that can hit multiple people at once meaning it's extremely good in unhook situations and can go through walls and ceilings meaning that can get hits nobody else can in indoor areas.
Then you have the best teleport in the entire game that if you're aware enough can get you free hits and even if you don't it's insane mobility like yes it has the demo problem of having to have been there already to have the hallucination ready but the absolute speed and recovery of it makes up for it.
I think it's the Singularity problem of them not being easy to use but unlike Singularity the payoff is absolutely worth it and Unknown does have the potential to be extremely oppressive.

Why a killer shouldn't be judged until survivors learn how to play against them.

I think people often forget that killer "tiers" are comparing the killers among one another, they are not a measure of how viable they are in their own right. The "weakest" killer in the game could be strong enough to 4k every single time and yet they could still be in F tier because there are other killers that are comparatively more potent at 4k-ing. And believe it or not (well, there is plenty of evidence for this, so it isn't really a matter of belief…), in DbD it is actually true that the killers regularly seen as the weakest (such as Freddy or Legion) can 4k most of any match in the hands of a good player.
A killer being B/C tier doesn't mean anything in terms of whether you can win with them, how "viable" they are, and whether or not I agree with Unknown being mid to low B or even C tier (I don't, people 4k on Unknown even in tournaments), they are perfectly viable enough to be able to win most of any match you will get in this game (meaning public matchmaking). Evidenced by long winstreaks and high winrates good players have on this killer, demolishing most groups they face fairly handedly.
I will say Unknown isn't the easiest killer to do well with, which factors in majorly to how well average players will perform because average players are not great at the game. And I do find that add-on choices matter quite a bit. But as with most of any killer, if you are struggling to do well the first thing to look at is your own gameplay (even if there definitely are quite a few killers that could do with buffs, albeit Unknown in my mind is not one of them, at most they could make them a bit easier to play such as by having a trajectory and bounce indicator for the UVX, and compensate for that with more means of losing Weakened).

I played them tonight and lost pretty much every single match. It was with random perks but unknown by far my least favorite killer now I think. I rather play singu tbh xD

I love Unknown but Chaos Shuffle doesn't seem to do them many favours. They need some combo of info+stealth but here I am rolling Distressing >.>

I admit most of my struggles last night may because of chaos shuffle but I have to say I had problems with unknown since they came out. I can't aim thier grenade save for my life.

LOOK AT HIM! LOOK AT HIM!

Its still the same killer and there is no new counterplay.
0 -
Yes, but the counterplay is still very easy, it was just that when a killer is new people over-estimate their worth. And I am saying this as someone who loves to play the unknown.
His only real power is the tp as his proyectile is the easiest to dodge in the game, only to be dethroned by vecnas skeletons next patch.
2 -
Thats why you should never trust the week-one "OP" bandwagon. People learn and overcome.
2 -
I haven't seen The Unknown since the first time he got released. No joke, nobody wants to play him.
2 -
Unknown is just a bad ranged killer
1 -
Not much of a surprise lots of people like to complain about new killers and pretend they're S++++ tier for the first few weeks. A killer who you counter by looking at them which is what you should be doing anyways won't be too insane.
