(Steam) Error message: "the game has initialized incorrectly and may not save your game properly"

Hello!
I need support.
Since yesterday I keep getting this error message:
“The game has initialized incorrectly and may not save your game properly. Restarting your game may fix the problem.”
I play via Steam on my laptop.
I have already tried the following.

  • Uninstalled the game - restarted the laptop - reinstalled the game.
  • Opened as administrator and got this error message:
“Your status in Steam is currently offline” (but I am online in Steam)
  • Updated the graphics card driver
  • Verify integrity of game files
  • Switched off Steam Cloud and tried to start the game

I'm getting desperate! I bought the Tomb Raider DLC and was so excited and now this :(

Can someone please help me? Thank you very much.

I am having the same issue and have not found a solution anywhere, there are quite a few people discussing this on reddit as well. No one has heard anything from support other than to "update drivers"

I'm having this issue as well and also bought a DLC I've never been able to play. Opening a support ticket was an absolute joke. They told me it was my internet.

I've done everything I can think of doing: Updating drivers, uninstalling and reinstalling, double checking my Steam and Behavior account sync, verifying files, uninstalling and running on D drive instead of C, rebooting the PC after each uninstall, redownloading Steam, checking my internet connection, turning Cloud on and off on Steam, deleting cache files, etc. Absolutely nothing is working. At this point I'm convinced it's something on their end and they're not acknowledging it.

Has anyone seen an ETA on this or an acknowledgement from devs that this is a thing people are dealing with?

Hey! So I finally got my game to work. Not sure if it'll help you, but it's worth a try.

    1. On your Windows Search bar, type the following: %localappdata%\DeadByDaylight\Saved\
    2. Delete the folder named 'PersistentDownloadDir' (this is a hidden folder)
    3. Restart Steam
    4. Launch Dead by Daylight. This should create the folder again as a new one and will get rid of the corruption (if that was the issue).
