This game is losing players
The Steam chart shows the player count has dropped significantly. The player count is about to get the same number as in 2017.
The queue times is atrocious too. It's ironic how the game is called Dead by Daylight.

No, it's not.
This is happening every year.
Peak is always during anniversary then slowly dropping until like 30k over the year, then anniversary happens and repeat.

The average is pretty steady.
The only reason it looks like it went down is because there was a massive, temporary influx of players taking part in the 2v8 mode and the anniversary event.

This doesn't seem to be true. Looking at the Steam charts, 6 of the 8 months of 2024 beat their 2023 numbers. There's been a drop recently, lots of players showed up for 2v8 and then that dropped off over time, which I don't think is in anyway unexpected.

Well actually, the player count on steam is at an all-time high right now, with no sign of slowing down, or decline.
Remember, there's also people on Xbox, PlayStation, Epic Games and more. The Steam playerbase accounts for a small percentage of the overall DBD community.
If you combined the player count from every platform, it'd probably be somewhere in the 100,000 - 200,000s, maybe more.

People have been making this claim every time Steam Charts shows any loss of players for years now and yet here we are the game still alive and kicking.

Cross progression just went live in August. I think there are several pretty obvious reasons why Steam numbers might be down, and they're not indicative of an overall playerbase decline.

If you mean playing at any single time, 100k+ is a pretty reasonable guess.
Over the course of a day though I think it would be way above 200k.

This is what the post is really about. Nothing to do with numbers on Steam.

then why cite them, tho.
like, we all know soloQ has substantial issues. I'm sure the devs know as well. But the Steam Charts are largely irrelevant here, not to mention inaccurate.

We just had the anniversary event, plus a 2v8 mode that was so popular it broke the game.
Both just ended, so if course player counts are going to drop a bit. It always stabilizes back again until the next release.

Ah finally we are back in this forums anual "the game is dying" season

The game is hardly dying. You’re only counting steam bro. Ps5, Xbox, switch players dominate.
🤦🏻♂️ This post is irrelevant and hardly true.

Just as some food for thoughs: in June 2021, when the game had its highest peak player count of 105k players playing the game at the same time, the average player count for the month was 48k. Compared to the 45k players playing right now, and the average around 40k monthly players of the last couple of month, that ain't too bad, really.
DBD had some rough times the last year, the montly player count dropped even as low as 28k in January, but since then BHVR has shown a willingness to inovate and try some new ideas, and the this got a lot of players to reinstall the game and come back.
At the moment the game looks as good as it has for a long time, so alarmism right now feels a bit out of place.

We're actually up nearly 10k players from this time last year.

the game averages like 30k-40k player and peak player is like 50,000 to 100,000. as far i see it, nothing going down. it is not going up but the games fine.
