This game is dying
Not because of its playercount, which is relatively stable, but because of the quality of the game. Survivors/killers giving up for whatever reason they have, disconnections, unstable servers, bluetooth hits, desync issues, hackers, bugs, exploits, SoloQ, intentionally griefing/throwing the game, trolling, hate messages, players running VPN, toxic community, terrible matchmaking system, the balance disparity between SWF, killers and SoloQ, dissatisfied maps and killers rework, lack of quality assurance.
Every update feels like the problems are getting worse. I know a lot of my friends quit for the reasons I mentioned above. Why I stay playing? I honestly don't know. Maybe of the hope I have of having them improve the game eventually?

whether you are wrong or right this type of "game is dying, everyone is quitting" type of comments have been going on for well over 5 years.

"Is this an over exaggeration thread?"
3 -
Well there definitely has been an increase of giving up first hook within the past months.
4 -
We the community have been praying for years they would actually balance the game. They just don't do it. We are tired of waiting, and so, giving up.
6 -
Fr man, its like its bleeding out from a papercut.

How is this overexaggeration? Have you ever played dbd on Switch/PS4/Xbox One? You haven't seen players giving up?
1 -
Why specifically those platforms? Game is crossplay
3 -
Uhm cus most people are still using old gens.

maybe, possibly subjective bias, i see no more than normal and tend to be mostly against certain types of killers. My desire to play against legion is pretty much nil and others dont like to play against blight or whatever.
flat out give ups are rare on my server group, NA and are not something i am seeing happening at a higher rate than normal and if it is, it is negligible ime

With me it's more like a specific day. :D
Today I was having little to no DCs for the whole dbd session. Yesterday I was having a little more DCs as usual…
Actually… I do agree that it depends on the killer.

Nah, m8, idk.
Today there were giving ups - but not to say that: - "Oh my God - the game is dying guys". And never was tbh…
Also, what's with the consoles? Does it matter? :) I play on PC.

i friggin despise all the aura reading (wallhack) perks
main reason I joined this cursed game was because of hide and seek
6 -
Ok.. but by "giving up" do you mean just in game? or just dropping the whole game in general?

i personally dont think the game is dying but i do agree that the game is losing its quality and i think it's also due to the limitations that i think are self imposed, predominantly through programming that isnt sustainable or objects that hasn't been designed with scale in mind. each update seems to expose more issues that aren't adequately being addressed and instead seems to get glossed over in the favor of aesthetics
stability has been crippled over the last 4 chapter releases. even for me, my $2000 gaming computer has issues with unexplainable stuttering and misbehavior and i can only boil it down to poor optimization.
i once had a very positive outlook on dead by daylight and was eager to support its development, but even i have a limit nowadays

Old gens have a really rough time on dbd especially on the nintendo switch with the performance issues.
I think OP meant to say that the game's quality is dying maybe he should have used another title for this post. He did say "Player count is relatively stable".

Trying to make this game competitive is what made the game less fun.

And also part of what keeps it alive, other asymetrical games that were very casual and fun died very quickly because there was little skill expression, and you can goof a lot with fiends but then you see everything that a goofy game has to offer and leave.
Dbd, while also having popular licenses, keeps people because you want to unlock all perks, learn and master the killers power, learn how to loop and get better at the game, that part is a huge issue in player retention.
While dbd is by no means an esports game, denying that the playerbase is very competitive is delusional, just look at the most popular content about the game, its tierlist, X perk is broken, winstreaks, etc very few of it is goofing around and while it exists it is not as popular as competitive themed content.

I know, and I agree with you at least partly. To be honest, the biggest reason I'm not having as much fun in the game these days (compared to before), is because of they made your head not be able to move whil crouching, and moving. Mind you, still the most fun multiplayer game for me easily.

Steam charts don't really support such claim.
For example this September there is 8k more players than last year.3 -
I think the game just lacks variety in a way? Not meaning the licenses but more the core gameplay, people feel more burnt out because its the same process everytime, maybe if we introduce a killer which changes how both sides play the match it would bring a refreshing new type of 'mode' that players can enjoy, and I don't mean just limited time events.

OP is not exaggerating unfortunately. I came back after a month today and it's just been miserable playing on both sides. The amount of trolling, giving up and griefing is really bad.
I played several matches this morning and tried to play two just now and couldn't get through either of my last two games without the first downed survivor going next.
I'm just trying to do the event Tome but it's breaking my heart a little bit how people are behaving.
Killers who tunnel, slug or camp is not what I'm referring to either. That's within the game rules and they are within their rights to play that way.
Survivors are loading in just to give up. Twice today I had people standing under the hook pointing at it.
I won't say the game is dying but it's going through something awful and it's negatively affecting Killers and Survivors. ☹️

your saying you cant turn your camera? because you can

This game is nowhere close to dying, it's actually getting better in almost every way. I've been playing since The Pig dropped in 2017, and sometimes I watch old gameplay and think, how the hell did we put up with that? The top 40 perks on both sides were so broken, and everyone either gen-rushed or tunneled and moried on first hook.
It's not perfect now, but it's in a really good spot. There aren't many busted mechanics anymore, and you can pretty much count the overpowered stuff on one hand (maybe two).

No. I'm saying your characters head doesn't go up or down when you're walking, running, crouching, or moving like crouching. It used to, before they decided to change the animations.
1 -
how does this impact your fun at all?

I miss that too

Not because of its playercount, which is relatively stable, but because of the quality of the game.
This just doesn't make sense. Too many people confuse 'I'm not having as much fun as I once did' with 'everyone is not having as much fun as they once did'.
As @PetTheDoggo pointed out, we just had a September with 8k more players than last year. That's incredibly rare for a game in its 8th year and makes the game look very healthy.

TBF console version is awful. It's slow, sluggish, and generally horrific to play. I play on pc but I have the game on Xbox. When I play on console it's like a different game entirely. Skill checks are way more difficult, playing as killer is way slower and harder to hit survivors even when they are right next to you Unplayable. PC I can get 4k on a regular basis. Console I'm lucky to get 2k... Forget 4k.
If I was stuck with DBD console as my only option I would give up too.

I play survivor on the PS5 and I don't see any problem.
(I play killer on PC.)

Because nodding was and still is hilarious to me. A survivor running looking up was funny as #########.
