I really think flash light saves are too easy man

i always lose matches to them, even when you look at a wall they somehow shine a single light ray from the very edge of your screen and get a free save, it just pisses me off how slow it takes to pick up a survivor.

2.5 seconds from 3 second pick up would be huge

haha, that's base-kit for killer. kicking gens. Good thing all it does is give you pointless 400% slower regression.

I really wonder why BHVR made flashlight saves so easy to pull off. I mean, back in the day it used to take skill, knowing the correct timing for the flahlight+add-on combo you were running.

They made the blinds way more easier than they used to be. Now only the most incompetent fail a blind.

The only way it could be easier would be to make a blind automatic if they click at any point during the grab animation, anywhere in the vicinity of the killer.

I had a question. There were a lot of moments when I was somehow blinded from the side, but I never managed to do that, I managed to blind and save only when I was in front of the killer and shined the light directly into his face.
Are those players who somehow managed to blind me from the side cheaters? Or is there some secret to doing it right?

I unfortunately wouldn't know. I'm terrible at trying to blind killers on console with a controller. I celebrate if I'm able to get a blind standing directly in front of them while they're in animation lock.

I don't think the players who are able to blind from the side are cheaters, but I too am curious what the trick is.

It's not the equivalent of kicking a completed generator though. You haven't gotten the hook state yet.

Sure, you're 90% of the way there, but last I checked killers seen to love regressing gens that are almost finished. It's the goal of checks notes the killer meta builds for most of the game's existence now.

If survivors are lurking for flashlight saves, they're also following your chase (not to mention not on gens). Being situationally aware, with sound cues, extra scratch marks, and looking around, is a pretty simple, base kit counter to this. That's also called game sense in most games.

Flashlight saves used to be the bane of my DbD existence, but OhTofu (as others have, I am sure) made a great video on how to counter flashlights that I watched in my early days in DBD and it changed my life, lol.

It's not just staring into a wall, but positioning, situational awareness, and how to fool the survs into putting themselves out of position. I still have flashlight saves work against me, but like 99% of those that do are coordinated teams. Most solo survs just can't pull it off unless you screw up somehow.

And yeah, sometimes you'll get blinded from a seemingly impossible angle by what must be a nuclear powered flashlight with the "face of god" add on (or they're cheating), but those are pretty rare.

Now I do run Lightborn sometimes (rarely), but only when I see four flashlights in the lobby, or otherwise get a vibe that beamer shenanigans might be afoot (like multiple TTVs).

But overall I don't find them to be a huge nuisance. As others have said, if these goobers want to follow chase around trolling for a save they'll almost certainly crap the bed on rather than work on gens, I am all for it.

    i'm in !! nerf flashlight !!
And so add DS , OFC and Unbreakable baseline ! I mean , having to use perk slot for something that could be easily changed …

While Lightborn in the Hard Counter to flashlights, I recommend Franklin’s Demise. It works against more than just the flashlights and wastes more time for Survivors because 9 times out of 10 they go back for their item.

The salt that it elicits out of them is a bonus.

From a post from about 3 weeks ago:

2.5 seconds for a flashlight blind would essentially guarantee a pickup by the killer. Unless they were looking at the survivor when the animation started, it would be almost impossible to achieve one. You don't need four slowdown. As much as I dislike lightborn, @Autharia is right. You have it for free on every killer. If you want to completely ignore a mechanic of the game, which I completely disagree that any perk should do, it is at your disposal. Again, you don't need four slowdown perks, and yes, I do play killer. Yes, I do play killer without four slowdown.

I find the fact that you already turned sometimes for half a second and still getting blinded much worse, it's not even desync, it's looks for survivors just as unrealistic as for the killer xD

shouldn't be balanced around execution difficulty

    should be looked at though

Yeah, the buffer combined with the increased FOV makes it easier to flashlight save than ever.

It feels like it's harder to miss a beamer save as long as you have an angle than to hit one these days.

Lord have mercy jesus here we go again, I cant understand this people who complain on flashlight and flashbangs who has lightborn for easy counter but they say they should not be wasting a perk slot to counter them while the ones who do uses it as base kit and complains about gen rush and what not once the survivors learn

You know something people who ran distortion did not want to run it before but did because of the never ending sky rocket increase of aura reads and I use to ask why must I be forced to use this perk to stop 24/7 peeping toms or peeping janes

I gave in ran it and ofc its gutted to garbage and all other worthless perks means of preventing 24 7 wall hacks does nothing but yall so uptight when I say lightborn should be given pain res 4 token treatment.

If distortion aint to shut off aura reads so easily ligthborn shouldnt shut off all stuns or blinds entire match ,preventing aiding a teamate or self defense and Plague should not be making all healing perks and med kits with add ons which I hope her rework changes her power completely.

May as well ask for for all blind items and perks gone but in exchange all killer aura reading and add on readings are gone.

Avoiding flashlight saves is a skill in of it self. While chasing you may be able to hear footsteps, breathing, moaning, or see scratchmarks that clearly arent from the person youre chasing. Picking up at odd angles as well is probably your best bet, such as looking towards a likely less populated area. if you see a spot thats relatively empty of obstacles, and basically no cover for survivors (basically theres no way they had time to hide in that area as you were chasing) then immediately picking up while facing that direction may be the best option.

Just keep it brother, trust me it gets much easier to deal with.

Flashlight saves are easier now because they removed flashlight clicking, which could be used to micro-adjust your timing if you knew you were a shade too early. IMO they should bring back old flashlight mechanics.

I'm all for hyperbole but you can't get blinded at 90 degree angles with a flashlight and never have been able to. Eating walls still counters flashlights, at least at the default killer FOV (and even with the highest setting, you'd need 180 FOV for a 90 degree blind…)

I can't give an exact angle for the survivor's position because they were outside of my FOV, but they were indeed to my side. It was a while ago I last remember that happening, but whenever I do an adept or something and don't have Lightborn I lose most of my screen when someone shines a flashlight at me. I won't even be in animation lock, but the latency or input lag or whatever means I'll be nearly or even fully blinded despite moving my camera as fast as I can. It's unpleasant and with frame drops, poor audio, and messed up scratch marks I can't really afford to lose sight of a survivor, so I keep Lightborn on.
