When is the best time to use your Toolbox to repair?

Is it really the best move to use your toolbox charges at the beginning of the match? If you get caught first, the Killer can undo all your progress.

There's the potential the Killer has FD though.

I'm just curious, do you all use it as soon as the match starts? Do you wait until someone is in a chase?

What is the best way to make sure your Toolbox was worth bringing?

    My best way is :
    1) bring brand new part and use it on the first gen i want to do ( example in raccon city i use it middle map).
2nd) drop the box on ground to see if killer have weave attunement. (if yes good chance to see franklin's demise)
    3) if franklin demise spotted i use my toolbox instant , if not i try to save it for a possible 3gen or a dangerous gen to do

There isn’t a single answer to this. It’s going to depend on so many factors. I seem to use them more often near the completion of a gen, however.

    My general strategy:

If I'm running a toolbox I'm either running Deja Vu so I try and break the 3 gen. I usually wait until about the halfway point of the progress meter then try and rush the second half of the gen progress. This minimizes the concern about 'wasting' the toolbox.

This varies a lot though on factors - if I'm using Built to Last, if a teammate has streetwise, the killer type, etc.

Most survivors burn them on the first gen they see in order to raze it to the ground ASAP and that surely feels good, but the thing is that the first 2 gens are pretty safe, regardless what you do. Sure, the killer could patrol in that area and shoo you away, but not from all 7 gens and 2-3 will pop without much resistance, so why waste your toolbox on those?

The only instance where you could and should do this is with the center/main building gen, if the killer is chasing somewhere else and you have a chance to sneakily take out that gen in one fast, fell swoop.

In nearly all other cases its better to keep your toolbox for the last two gens, because this will be the more dagerous and contested ones. Every second you can spend on this final gens with a juicy toolbox will be extra rewarding. Of course, keeping the toolbox comes with the risk of getting hit with Franklins or even dying, but in that case your commitment to an early gen probably didn't have that much of an impact either and you dying now is impacting the game more severe then the difference between using that toolbox on the first gen or not at all. So show some box-discipline.

I like to save it for finishing priority gens like rpd main lobby

I'll only burn it otherwise if Franklins is in play

I burn it instantly, but I try to focus an important gen that the killer would want to hold, such as blood lodge gen, RPD lobby, etc. If the killer doesn't chase me then their 3 gen prospects are minimal, and if they do then it's up to me to outplay them long enough to win the game (and hope my teammates are doing gens).

I believe it's best to save them for the last couple of gens, when the killer has a smaller area overall to patrol and thus being able to slam a gen quickly is much stronger. Most survivors burn through them at the very beginning of the match though, reason why Franklin's Demise does not really counter toolboxes. But I can also see an argument for using them at the beginning in case the killer does have Franklin's…

It depends on certain factors. If I’m bringing a brand new part add-on I’ll try to install it and work on a gen in the middle of the map to try and prevent a 3 gen asap. If it’s just a toolbox with speed/charge add-ons I’ll usually save it for mid game to help with gen pressure.

Start of the match / when you need to burst the gen killer can easily defend / last gen(s)

It depends how the match is going. In principle, I use a toolbox to try to rush a gen, but finding the exact right moment to rush a gen is really context-dependent. I don't see Franklin's enough to worry about it. If it happens, it happens — bad luck.

Gosh this thread is full of great ideas. I never even thought about using them when Survivors are being chased. So much creativity.

Unless your given a reason to use it early (fraklins for example) your generally better off waiting until you only have 2 or 3 gene left.

If you have bnp absolutely drop it on a crucial gen but then save your tool box. The problem with using it early has 2 issues

    1. Pain of res & you basically wasted your toolbox

    2. You pop the gen yay you, later on you have 1 or 2 gens left to do, maybe only 2 or 3 survivors left, less pallets ect, killer is in a much stronger position even with gen regression limit having a toolbox once you can get one of those last few gens over 50% really can make a massive difference to your survival chances

Survivors should absolutely pop a gen or 2 early without a toolbox.

Well, I don't usually bring TBs (except there's a gen challenge in the tome) but if I do bring one I usually use it on a progressed risky gen to get it out of the way or on any near-completed gen when a chase is about to end to avoid a nearly done gen getting painres-ed or popped.

I generally don't consider FD. It's not in play very often and if it is which gen to chuck you tb in is the least of your problems. FD (+Weave attunement) killers are just as obnoxious as Boil Over survs and I generally just want those matches to be over.
