Does anybody actually make any friends through DBD?

This is more geared at survivors but if it happened through playing killer of course chime in too.

I kinda wonder if the reason soloQ sucks for so many people is you don't really have any opportunity to get out of soloQ cuz it's hard to make friends through the game. I feel like it's fairly common to do through an Overwatch or a Monster Hunter or any RPG but DBD? Been here since 2016 and it's never happened.

I thought about why that was and DBD doesn't really give you the opportunity to do it. You have a short 1 minute pregame lobby and can only text if you're on PC then the entire game is in silence. Maybe you get a cool teammate and you might say something about it post game but that's really it and nothing ever comes of it and it's rare for all four survivors to still be around for the post game lobby.

This is why being soloQ in DBD is so much tougher compared to other games cuz other games actively encourage you to team up with other people but solo survivor really does seem all about surviving by yourself.

So is this a problem? Should this change? Am I wrong and you have actually teamed up with other people you've met in game? I'm really curious about other people's experiences with this.

I made quite some friends through DBD, yeah. At first I slipped into the twitch streams of some Twitchers I versed and after the first round of "uh you suck because you tunneled my friend" they were actually chill and I joined them regularly on their ventures into the fog.

It really helps to walk a mile or two in the other rolls shoes to widen your horizon and see that they are just as likely just gooding off and doing dumb stuff then you are, so it helps to soften some harsh stances.

Every now and then I would have a surprisingly nice chat after a tough as nails round and me and the survivor vibed and send friend requests and when I played survivor I would look around and jump into anyones lobby that was open and over time got invited to a coupld of Discour servers where I would always find someone.

Eventually I met a couple of survivors with whom I vibed REALLY well and would hang out all the time with them or get an invite to a game when I was doing a couple of lazy killer rounds and switched rolls on a whim. Running with regular friends is really that much more fun: you don't have to worry about THAT survivor to be useless as a sack of nails and you can always count on them coming for your rescue. Sometimes we would do a tripple or even full four SWF, at other times we would do a 5er "Kill your friends" session where we rotate the killer role etc.

With my main DBD buddy, with whom I often duo, I easily make new DBD friends - I guess its just what happens when you run as a duo: you will so often do some nice play or safe someone in the nick of time and make a daring escape and someone will stick along for an evening or two.

While hanging out in our server, we sometimes switched to other games, like we played a lot of Phasmophobia or the occasional Overwatch match, when the killers seem too dastardly that day, but for the most part we just dig DBD.

So yeah, my experience was very positive and I made some real good online friends via DBD. That duo mate is from just a couple cities over and maybe we will meet up one day, I show my cooking skills or whatever.

At some point i had so many people i didnt know on the friends list. Some hacker got a hold of one of the friends account and had somr program where they control your chat messages, spamming everyone on your friend list that they need help with a vote thing on some webpage, anyone that went to it immediately got their accounts chat hacked into and spammed all their friends too then u have to start doing damage control changing ur profile name to warn people on ur list, and stuff, then for some reason they get kicked ouy of ur account and are too busy spreading like a virus to other people whithout any purpous as theh didnt take anything or change anything. Anyway since that i just keep the people i actualy talk to or play with often on my list, like 1-3 people. And ignore all requests so that i dont get a huge friends list again.

Not friends-friends, but DBD definitely bring some good people into my life, and I appreciate it.

One, I guess. But I'm too shy to reach out and send an invite so I still just roll solo anyways

Yep I'm a killer main and 3 of my mods are survivor mains that I faced in matches. I've met most of my really good friends through playing dbd.

All the DBD friends I have, I made before crossplay and with the older matchmaking, so you always ran across the same survivors 3 or 4 days after rank reset. Being PC, you would talk alot to those same survivors, and even killers… at least before the community started weirding out and taking the game super seriously.

I play solo queue and in the past when I had messages on sometimes people from matches would message me, we'd team up, we'd be on comms together using the built-in PlayStation system. Some ended up on my friends list for a while.

I don't really like being on comms, though. Anxiety. Nowadays, if I play with someone else it's an irl friend and we're literally sitting next to each other as we play.

Talking to people via the PlayStation system happened before cross-play became a thing. I'm sure it's a bit harder now.

dbd players are natural enemies. Like twitch streamers and dbd players. Like youtuber And dbd players. Or influencers and dbd players. Or dbd players and other dbd players. Damn dbd players! they ruined dbd!

in all seriousness i found someone that wasn't a prick and ended to become friends despite i'm a killer main, but i always refused to play as a premade (or at least with VC since i keep saying that this game was created without considering VC for the game balance). In short words it's possible to find friends even in this game no matter the role that you are playing, but it's not common to find people actually chill and available for a friendly chat

I've only really made one friend specifically through DBD. It was before DBD had a report feature around 2016 or maybe early 2017. I remember I played 8 games in a row as killer and I was either told to off myself or I would be called slurs like the hard R or something comparable to a bundle of sticks. The only person who even said anything remotely nice was a dude I met who I ended up killing as Trapper who just replied with GG :) but I noticed they were a streamer so I ended up going to their channel and saying hi - was a great guy and we ended up staying good friends since then. He's always kind of stood out from the crowd in a good way and while it was unfortunate circumstances that made him stand out in this case I'm glad I got to meet him.

it’s quite hard because console has zero ability to take to cross play players. When you send a pc player a friend request it’s like hope and pray they even see it. You can’t even communicate with them.

Very sadly yes, I've made several good friends through this game, and even more embarrassingly multiple exes.

DBD can truly make or break a relationship. "You didn't bodyblock for me...it's over!"

Unfortunately as an adult I wouldn't take the chance in case a friend request was from a child/young adult under 18.

That would be so inappropriate at every level despite it being an innocent request.

    So no, not for me.

Several. Some I actually flew out of the country to meet them in person after 4 years, and were murmuring about getting the whole friend group together at some point :)

ironically the dbd games strengthened the relationship, it was the extra things from both parties that always messed it up lmao
