Even the most successful games can stumble when quality takes a backseat to profit

yo,

take a look at the Steam reviews for Doomed Curse..... and you'll be left speechless.

A storm of negative reviews….WOW I would not have expected that.

Where has the transparency gone ? or should I rather ask: How much feedback does BHVR still need ? I understand that a company needs to make money, but is profit so much more important these days?

If this continues, the gaming community will suffer and dwindle, and that makes me sad and angry.

What do you think?

Yeah, rather 3 chapters a year (one every 4 months) and more quality of life changes, perk and balance adjustments, much less bugs and so on than 4 chapters and a bunch of frustration. I think BHVR earns enough with the store already.

    What do you think?

I don't understand why people think profit is the issue. A company makes money when they release something people want to buy, they lose money when they release something people don't like.

Yeah and that's exactly what happens here. The dlc released in a bad state and people are angry about it.

All of us fully understand why they push for as many chapters as they can. But it's clear that some killers need more time in development. Houndmaster is one example of that. They pushed out the chapter way too soon.

Would another month have been enough to completely turn that around? Probably not but it wouldn't be this bad.

So a smaller company like this more than likely has investors. These investors require quarterly reports. Now the thing I noticed is that special events and sales happen towards the end of the quarter. This will boost player count so they can go to the investors with high numbers. Not only that cosmetics more than likely pull in more money, these are released frequently but the event linked items again towards the end of the quarters. Notice how now the tomes are actually back to back with special events mixed in. This to me indicates there was a huge player slump and they need to keep that flow. Most gamers of the current age have fomo and it's all about the limited edition cosmetics. However these past Halloween ones have all of you looking like glowing targets for the killer but you look cute so that's what matters.

It isn't about reviews its about money.

Third so if someone wanted to find out what the reviews where all about the can go and pull it up on any creator and see nicely edited video's because even negative reviews is good publicity. These nicely edited reviews will show wins with ease from either side having people question why the negative reviews. Then a person maybe inclined to purchase to see for themselves.

It is a confusing cycle but for the current base if you stop spending money then you will see real changes.

BHVR isn't a small company unless your definition of small is everyone who isn't AAA.

They aren't a publicly traded company and I am not familiar with Canadian law but it does not seem like they are required to release quarterly reports. It looks like some companies (Netease) own a minority share of BHVR.

Public steam numbers of their player count are very healthy.

Nothing is going to change unless there is some competition. People are still playing the game and spending $ on it. We'll continue to get broken content cranked out every three months, it will continue to take forever to fix anything. This won't change until people start leaving the game to go play something else. Right now there isn't "something else", at least in this genre. But you do have to give BHVR credit for being the only viable game in this genre for 8 years. Nobody else has been able to do it.

You are correct. It is not enough to not like it. Gamers actually have to not buy it as well. Total War: Warhammer gamers learned this recently. Suddenly, they can rate their DLCs positively on Steam for the first time since the launch of the 3rd game.

You don't have to be publicly traded to have investors. It's a tricky thing really. Steam numbers are healthy but low for a healthy game. You need to consider EA, Microsoft and console players. They make up the bigger portion rather than Steam numbers.

You do need to be publicly traded to have to do things like quarterly reports (unless there is something different in Canada) which was what your post was talking about. Obviously the company has people who have a financial interest in their outcomes, that's true for every company (and in a slightly different way true for every non-profit and governmental entity as well).

As for saying low for a healthy game, no. At the time I'm posting this they are the 27th most played game on Steam. If that is the low end of healthy the video game industry is in serious trouble.

And Epic games, consoles, switch, etc. do make up a far larger portion of their player base, but we can use the Steam numbers as an indicator of how other platforms are behaving. If Steam has a stable / slightly growing player base, what factor would make it different for playstation (for example)? All indicators are that DbD has a healthy, worldwide player base. I want to say the last time BHVR commented on it there are close to a million games of DbD played per day.

I understand that as a company we sell DLC for profit.
However, I think it is wrong to sell an incomplete product for that reason.

As others have said, clearly the current pace of implementation is beyond BHVR's capacity.

I would like to see the pace of implementation moderated a bit and the stability of the game, including bug fixes, made a top priority.

There are other ways to make profits, such as selling skins and amulets, so I would like you to stabilize the game while making profits in those ways.

That positive is very debatable, though I'm not sure if you're allowed to say you don't think she is cool without people attacking you and trying to cancel you.

Its DEI slop first DLC since launch I haven't bought with real money. Not a chance in hell I'm paying for this sort of content!
