Why do you need this feature on the forum if dislikes are deleted everywhere, including on YouTube? I mean, if you make any suggestion, everything will depend on who is more on the forum - the killers or the survivors.

I think it's a bad idea to have downvotes.
Psychologically all humans get a small dopamine hit for every upvote, but have a much stronger reaction to a downvote. Even those who think they don't care, are still manipulated by this somewhat to alter their behaviour, e.g. some almost go out of their way to get downvotes to minimise its psychological impact on themselves.
What this means is people become reluctant to say what they actually think unless what they say happens to be the popular opinion, and this of course leads to the echo chambers we see on social media platforms, where everyone parrots the popular view with no actual arguments, and few people are willing to speak out against the popular view for fear of being ratioed.
This effect is somewhat already in place for just up votes, but the difference is an informed opinion and/or well reasoned argument that opposes yours often gets upvoted instead of your own. Often you still get upvotes from those that agree with you, but anyone with some self awareness will still realise their view is the less agreed with, and that doesn't have anywhere near the same level of psychological impact as being mass down voted... so people still generally say what they think. Downvotes strip that away, and manipulates people to form into mobs or cliques.
I myself am aware of my own issues with being manipulated by social media, it's the main reason I came off all other social media platforms. Even though I am aware of its impact on my behaviour, I can still be heavily manipulated by it, and it takes considerable effort to rise above it... effort most people won't or can't do.
The result is downvotes tend to discourage discussion and instead discussions trend towards click bait/buzzwords and discrediting your opponent by parroting whatever the latest trend is to rally support from the masses instead of discussing the issue...
What they should be, is discussions where perspectives are challenged and creditted based on the evidence brought for the respective arguments... and a downvote eliminates all need to actually engage with the opposing point of view.
So if it were me... I'd definitely not keep this feature. 😁

when people look at the vote ratio first it increases the echo chamber factor.
this gives, for example, in this forum, BHVR the opportunity to make opinions look like they are rejected by the community, even if they are only rejected by BHVR with no way for people to know.
I'm not saying that this is the plan, but everyone should keep the possibility in mind.

I agree with the opinion of this popular person. Like, for real... Downvotes seem likely to create a sort of chilling effect where people with legitimate thoughts or opinions that aren't in the majority will choose not to voice them. While it's likely that combining downvotes with upvotes could be used as a way to directly compare supporting and opposing viewpoints on certain topics, that seems better left to polls. Polls instead allow people to downvote things without incidentally leading to the suppression of new ideas. Well said @UndeddJester!

No idea why they brought Downvotes back. They were on the forums some time ago and were removed because they just dont work. And I have to say, they still down work.
Downvotes will only be used to Downvote other opinions without having to put some thought into it why those opinions are bad. Without Downvotes at least, people who think that someone is writing nonsense, cannot express it except if they want to bring some arguments themselves - which is how good discussions work.
What @UndeddJester wrote is also true that some people would not want to write something in fear of getting downvoted. And this Forum is already a big echo chamber…
Overall, really not a good idea.

I honestly dont really think downvoting really does anything positive for the discussions that happen on these forums. I've seen on other forums for other games in the past where trolls would silently troll every single comment, mass downvoting everyone. If a comment gets downvoted enough will it get buried? If so, thats a really bad thing. Thats what reddit does and we all know how well that has worked for turning every discussion into an echo chamber.
Forum boards exist to have conversations, and where there are conversations, you will typically find opinions, and sometimes inconvenient truths. A massively upvoted comment is not necessarily correct just as a massively downvoted one is not always wrong. Its not a popularity contest.1 -
Hopefully its a wierd glitch, or some test, but this is the exact reason I avoided reddit. Thankfully ffxiv forums do not do downvotes either. Also I thought my message went through but I guess my phone glitched out lol.

Yeah already seeing how abused it already is as some people who always makes nice comments and great advise like undeed jester getting hammered in downvotes and its most likely all these new troll accounts. Hopefully Mandy or someone gives some info on this or its simply removed.
