Grok estimates we could complete the community challenge and unlock the +500% bp bonus within a week
Let’s keep this momentum going! If we get the 500% bonus sometime next week that means we’ll have a solid week and a half or almost 2 weeks of a massive 500% bp multiplier!!!

? I’m genuinely confused why everyone is hating. I just asked an ai to calculate how long it would take to finish the community challenge and im getting downvoted from everyone? Is it because Grok is affiliated with Elon musk?
-5 -
Yes, partly. AI uses lots of resources and is destroying the planet to generate answers you can find using a calculator or the internet. AI will be the death of us :’) But also yes Elon Musk.

Like @imabakedpot8o mentioned you can just use a calculator or the internet to find this information instead of a tool that uses so much energy it's destructive. Also the things Grok doesn't take note of, not every single moment of the day is going to have the same amount of people playing. Not even that, but people get bored of events. Sure, at first we'll be at a steady pace to get it in 7-8 days, but it wouldn't shock me if it takes more than half the event to get there. Although who knows, this community shocks me all the time.

ah makes sense, im just lazy and didn’t want to do the math myself lol. probably gonna refrain using ai in general if this is how others feel about it

The bonus BP is only for event scores and not for the overall score. Or do is misunderstand that? So 500% is not that much for survivors.

Don’t bother. I’ll more than make up for it. I probably ask Grok 1,000+ things a day. Bought the membership and everything for unlimited chat. I just be chatting with it lol, very fun to use.

Surely this is another reason not to use it.
Not to mention the various other reasons that aren’t allowed to be discussed here.

Not using a very helpful and great technology because you don’t like the person behind it is laughable. I bet you own an IPhone, probably Nike shoes. I don’t need to tell you how those products are made. I’m sure you know and use them anyways.

tbh fridge is perhaps the funniest possible person you could say this to.
ai is eroding the critical thinking ability and learning ability of everyone around us. do you know how disheartening it is when everyone around me on my course, in my workplace, etc is using ai for the most basic questions? things that could be solved with a little bit of brainpower and a little bit of the skills the course literally teaches us to develop. it's making people lazy, it's built on the backs of the hard work of others who did not consent to their works being used to "train" the models, and the energy costs outweigh all possible benefits; hell, half the time it'll just make things up or give wrong/irrelevant information. there is nothing that a generative ai model can do that i cannot do better if i give it 3 hours of my time, chug a redbull, and lock in.

This goes well beyond me ‘not liking the person behind it’, but go off.

Just want to point out that generative AI does not do math very well. It can give you answers to simple questions because it has those answers in its data set. The second you start asking it for more complicated stuff, there's a chance it just makes an answer up while making it sound very convincing.
It works by predicting what the next word should be, sort of like predictive text on your phone just way more advanced using neural networks. It doesn't actually do any thinking or mathematical operations.
Therefore, using AI for this isn't a very good idea. Not to mention the heaps of ethical problems with AI and especially the person who owns Grok. I wouldn't trust it, personally.

Congrats. Dementia gonna hit hard xd
Also do you not have friends? you know… the people you're supposed to speak to and ask questions. rather than an ai bot.. that's really quite sad.

You should do some research. Just search for the negative effects AI has on the environment and how they're storing computers/data centres used to power AI. (They've started to put them in the ocean, which is wreaking havoc on marine life because they generate so much heat) Also, the amount of fresh water that gets wasted on this stuff is insane. Especially when there are countries without fresh water, to use it on computers before people in need is really out of touch. Like, for real inform yourself on that stuff. It's eye-opening and makes you question why these people with loads of money get away with destroying the planet simply just because they have the funds to do so.

I asked Grok if ai was bad for the planet and it says no so I think we're ok.

Well have a good time estimate by this weekend; it's hard to gauge progress by a work day.

Apple has children make iPhones in sweatshops that have nets around the outside of the building to catch people.
You’re being a hypocrite is all I’m saying. Human life is more important than using too much energy.

You're welcome to argue ethics with someone who actually presented arguments in this topic. You're going off on me, claiming things about me you have made up yourself.
I frankly cba.

I’m not going off on anyone lol. Just pointing out potential double standards that make zero sense. Nothing is wrong with AI. They don’t use a ton of energy. They are fun and useful tools. There’s nothing wrong with them at all.
You were the one saying not to use it while have zero evidence to say why not to use it. That’s all. I just wanted to stop you from misleading people and stopping people from using a fun tool. Thanks

Ok. Fine.
We don't actually know specifically how much energy generative AI uses. Because the companies behind them refuse to disclose the numbers. For now, they're not legally obliged to do so either, so they're quite hapy to leave all of us in the dark. What we do know is that some companies are considering building their own nuclear plants just to power them. That alone should tell us something about just how much power is used.
You're right about individual uses of AI, like simply asking it a yes/no question, having negligible power use. The issue becomes when individual uses turns into millions of uses ever hour, globally, which is where we're at currently. You yourself said you asked it 1000+ requests daily. Now I don't believe you do, that's absurd. All the same, I don't need a maths degree to understand that 'neglible x 1000', daily, is no longer negligible. And that's just you. There's thousands, possibly tens of thousands of people like you, who also query generative AI thousands of times. That adds up. And that's not even counting the people who only use it occassionally.
Datacenters require lots of water to cool. Now, water is a renewable source, yes, but that water needs to come from somewhere. That's water that's not going to farmers, not going to nature, not going to our taps.
There's a whole host of other issues with AI-generation too.
1: The companies behind them don't give the slightest damn about copyright. One of them quite literally stated that them being forced to pay for copyright would mean their downfall. They're stealing artwork from people who need to live off of making art, and copying it without so much as a shred of acknowledgment.
2: AI generation can, and often will, straight up lie to you. Cookbooks, medical advice, basic facts, basic mathematics (which is deeply ironic). Many statements made my AI have not only proven to be outright false, they're also actually very, very dangerous sometimes.
3: Deepfakes. Intentional, user-created lies. These aren't too relevant here, but by golly is it already becoming far better at faking images than I would ever have imagined.
4: Grok in particular is owned by a very, very dangerous and deranged man. Though I cannot talk about this further 'cause it's against forum rules. And you just… give him your money? wild
5: Overreliance on AI is actively, and quite rapidly dumbing down the people who rely on them. GBK explained this in this thread, which you didn't seem to have read.
And for the record, I do not wear brand clothing, nor will I ever. I don't care about looking good, frankly. I do own an iPhone, but it's the only apple product I own, and it's a positively ancient model that I fear might not be supported in a year or two. Once it's straight-up becoming unusable, I intend to switch to a brand that recyles their phones. The new models are outside a price range I'd consider acceptable anyhow.
I'm gonna leave it there.
