When will the Tutorial mode actually be reworked to actually help new players.
Tutorial is one of the most outdated aspects of the game, only teaching you the absolute basics of how to move, vault, run, drop a pallet and for the killer it's the basics of that role too. Sure, it's perfect for an absolute brand new player with essentially no MMR but it doesn't even teach you how to lunge as the killer, no explanation on totems, chests, any killer except for trapper, events, killer powers, perks, addons or offerings (maybe this is why BHVR, new players didn't select anything like perks, as you didn't tell them about it until this next PTB). Tutorial shows you how you can waste pallets without stunning the killers, this isn't informative or efficient. The tutorial needs change.
The tutorial mode needs to include more like:
- Don't stay near hooks, otherwise anti camp won't go up if the killer is camping (same for going down nearby)
- Splitting up to do generators, to add more pressure onto the killer
- The tutorial still treats this as we're in 2016, as if stealth is the main choice of gameplay, which is no longer the case anymore
- The tutorial doesn't even tell killers about the 8 gen kick limit
- No tips of when to heal or when you shouldn't
Nothing informative at all in the tutorial for modern dbd. I'm shocked to discover that the tutorial for Rust is even more informative and helpful. Even simple thing like practice against any killer you want could be a good starting point.. what features would you want to see included if they reworked the Tutorial.

It's not that outdated. The OG tutorial was just a few videos. Besides, if you ask 10 people what would make a good tutorial you will get 11 answers and everyone will still be unhappy.

on the survivor side the tutorial should come with a warning that healing under the hook is a terrible idea.

Been barking up this tree for a LONG time… No such luck yet… I bet BHVR thinks they've done a "pretty good so far.." in terms of tutorial quality.. xD

I very much agree. There is so much more to the game than what the tutorial offers. For awhile I think it was fair for people to just play and learn as they go, but the game is almost 10 years old at this point, there are 39 different killers, all with different counter play. Not including add-ons. There’s like 200 survivor perks. Over 100 killer perks. There’s just so much in the game now that it’s somewhat unrealistic to expect a new player to be able to not only absorb all the information required to just be competent in the game, let alone the hours and hours of actual gameplay it takes to be able to utilize that information properly. Having custom matches helps, where you can practice against bots as killer and learn different maps or perks for killer or survivor, though unfortunately there is no equivalent for the survivor side even though there really should be.
But both roles have such crazy expectations in order to perform well that the tutorial makes the game seem much more linear than it is. I think the game would benefit from more learning tools being available to all players 100%

Agreed. While it could definitely add a bit more information alot of stuff has to be learned by playing as so much is situational.

Even that isn't always true though, maybe the person unhooking has we'll make it and/or the unhooked person has resurgence. Maybe the killer is super far away on the other side of the map. Maybe the killer is oni, and running away will just give you a trail of blood that leads to you while giving him even more blood to soak up.

I think preview videos in game would be extremely useful of killers powers. I don't think people should have to look them up and it would go a long way with deciding if you want to buy a character as well.
It would certainly streamline needing to guess how killer powers exactly work at the base level, especially at a beginner level playing or playing against killer.

oh yeah for sure there’s always exceptions to rules, no doubt. I totally agree, but it’s still better to go someone safer than be right where they left you.
I’m not saying run to the edge of the map, but at least go for cover if you can. Most people aren’t bringing “let me get them straight”-most of the time- perks. I love we’ll make it paired with made for this.
You can heal them and tank a hit if you need to. In general though it’s a bad idea to heal under the hook. Almost every single time I do it or let it happen without anything to boost heals it just ends up costing the team more than it gives in terms of time. Especially early on when resources are still up. Where mostly when you pick a new spot to reset it works out better, and it’s better chances. Those are my thoughts and experiences anyways.

I agree that the tutorial system could (and should) really be expanded, but the problem is that DBD has so much vital but situational/niche content that would need to be covered that finding a starting point would be a challenge.
I actually think some of the stuff mentioned here (like don't hang out around/crash the hook, etc.) probably should be left as something players figure out organically. Or included as tips on the loading screens. There's just so much you could add there it would almost be never ending.
Where I think the most need is (and the most daunting) is killer specific tutorial. Like basics on both how to play as them, and what to expect when facing them. There are just so many killers and so many powers that it must be overwhelming as a new player. And frustrating when you get a new player as a teammate and it is clear they don't know how the killer you're facing works. Then you get frustrated with them when it's not really their fault.
And that curve is only getting steeper with each killer release.
Also, a primer on how to read the HUD, status effects, and what all the icons mean. And then you have perks, and what a task that would be.
And then of course there is the truly vital info, like how to moonwalk with a controller.
But seriously, I think this is an area where BHVR has been bailed out by content creators effectively doing their job for them.

I agree, those are really good ideas! I think it would take time to give that QoL to but I think it’s super needed. You’re so right.
