Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

You're about to change, Dead by Daylight

The EU will soon be implementing new rules to go against in-game transactions.

Some main points are…

  • Showing what an item in the in-game store costs in real money in addition to the in-game currency.
  • No buying in-game currencies with purchasable in-game currencies, especially if the former currency is then used to buy items.
  • No hiding new rules in a long ToS, a simple warning up front.
  • You must be able to cancel any type of subscription (BattlePass for example) and just as easily as starting said subscription.
  • No Pay2Play. If it gives an advantage it's got to go. (It doesn't matter too much in this game, but things like the early sneaky Claudette comes to mind.)
  • My personal favorite: REFUNDS for in-game currency purchases AND items bought from in-game stores need to be a thing.

The EU is too big of a market for gaming to simply ignore, it'll either be adapt and keep it up or abandon many customers and keep your old methods in the US, Asia, Australia etc.

The choice is yours BHVR, but it'll come to you soon.

If I understood this right, then the second and last points are probs the most impactful.

The Battlepass, our Rift, is not a subcription per se, moreso a single up-front payment. Might still be affected, I'm not sure.

Honestly I'm all up for it.

Finally I am free from the sunk cost fallacy. My DBD return gonna be huge

Well, Dead by Daylight had a good run, but if these changes go through and people actually use especially those last two, it's pretty much going to be the end of most online games.

The game will be fine. They'll have to make some UI changes, but they'll still make bank from whales, especially here in the US where consumer protections aren't exactly a thing.

Actually I just found out, the OP left out some key details.

So that's going to be a minor issue for most companies.

So there will be no ability for veterans to get a full account refund as one commenter thought.

I just wish I could get perks without buying characters I won't touch.

Before someone says 'shrine of secrets', think again. How many perks keep piling up and what are the chances of ever getting the one you need?

Yeah, the Shrine needs an extensive rework, and arguably, now is the ideal time for it.

You can @ me gang don't worry. I'm disappointed but not surprised.

I was mostly joking anyway, I don't wholly despise my collection of utter financial waste.

Oh no, I totally understand the "sunk cost fallacy" myself. I have lingering thoughts about another game that recently released a 2nd game and none of the thousand or so I've spend on that game carries over to the new version. So while I did quit the game, I am kind of… well, sunk cost fallacy about it, especially since I finally got the $100 skin (yes, $100 because it was the final skin in their season pass which made it $100 when you bought it after the pass was over) that I have desperately wanted since it came out.
