Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Hex: Undying or not?

When you want to play like 1 main hex totem (Ruin, Devour, etc.) ... Is it worth running Undying but having two lit totems (increased chance to find totem in general + let people know you run a totem) or just have 1 totem (harder to find + no info ahead) but risk you can lose it easily?

It's the same gamble either way, the same loss of other potentially good perks. Your wasting a perk slot on something that can be perma-destroyed, and Undying is bringing another perk that can be perma-destroyed... to protect the first one that can be perma-destroyed. With Pentimento, that may have been worth it, but if you've read the recent balance changes, there goes that. This is why I never use hexes, except to mix it up and try something new/fun, because their power level doesn't even justify the perma-destroyed clause. Even if it did, you'd still be gambling on them not getting broken. There's no consistency in that, just luck.

I've never cared for Undying personally. I'll take my chances on guarding the one totem. Undying adds an extra hex, but dull totems will also reveal Undying and make survivors start looking.

Technically it is worth it, but it mostly just comes down to what you prefer.

For example, the Haunted Grounds + Retribution build never disappoints. Wastes time AND gives you free downs.

Depends on which Hex I'm running, but generally yes, I pair it with Undying unless I really need all my three other perks.

Undying should just be reverted at this point. Was only strong with ruin which has been nerfed since.

I think it depends both on your specific build but also on personal preference. For me personally, I usually don't run Undying super often, but if you have a build that really benefits from one other specific hex and you want to make sure you don't lose it right away, then Undying can be worth it.

If I'm using Devour Hope specifically (but without a full hex build, ie. I'm bringing 2 or 3 regular perks) I typically avoid Undying as this leaves 3 dull totems on the map that can reveal Undying's presence to survivors and make them suspect (and start looking for) the Devour totem much sooner than if you had just used Devour Hope alone, making Undying a detriment. With most other hexes this isn't really an issue since survivors will find out quickly anyway.

For builds with 3 or 4 hex perks, some of those builds start to benefit more from Thrill of the Hunt instead unless it revolves around 1 main hex you really don't want to lose first, like Devour + Haunted + Retribution + Undying for example, as without Undying if you get unlucky and lose Devour first then the rest of the totems can just be ignored. But for something like Ruin + Wretched Fate + Pentimento, I think Thrill is better than Undying in that build (especially since rekindled totems both benefit from Thrill and can restore lost Thrill stacks from the other totems being cleansed as well).

I usually use it only with Devour hope, because that's the hex worth protecting.
