So halfway in, how does 2v8 feel so far for everyone?
I've been playing it nearly every single day it's been on with a couple days off in between. I'm generally having a blast unless we get really strong combos as Survivor or really good Survivors as Killer, same as it ever was. Generally speaking, here's my opinions, I'd love to see how it tracks for you.
- Playing Oni: Oni feels like a blast to play, he's pretty much always in his power. I still do not like the changes to his turns, they feel bad to me, but otherwise? Fun as hell. I will say being paired with Legion feels like an unfair advantage though if the Legion is any good. Run Shadow or Brute on Oni, he doesn't need the other two. I do think he should be able to share a little info with the other Killer, why can't they see his Blood Orbs and use them as info or pass that info along to the Oni if they're in comms? Makes no sense to me. Some other adjustments - maybe make his turn rate a bit more forgiving or maybe give him some more basekit info he can share with the other Killer; he's strong enough in the mode as is he often ends up stealing the show and barely needs the other Killer. That could be an issue in future iterations for sure. Pair him with a Killer that injures well, or run Shadow and pair with a Stealth Killer to scare Survivors.
- Facing Oni: Oni feels pretty fair unless he is paired with certain Killers that get easy hits, keep Survs injured, or are very quick. Two speed Killers is just not fun to deal with in a mode where everyone refuses to do gens even more than normal, I feel I HAVE to genrush against combos like Legion+Oni or Blight+Oni which isn't a fun playstyle for me. Honestly it's going to be super problematic to pair Oni with ANYONE who injures easily - Plague and Trickster are both great examples of other Killers who would also be an issue with Oni. Stealth Oni is absolutely terrifying as usual though, even more if he's paired with a stealth Killer!
- Playing Ghostface: On Killer side, I've NGL had so much fun as Ghostface in this mode he's been my primary Killer in it since day one, and he's generally only my second or third pick for Killer overall. He's actually a lot better here as a Support Killer than I thought he would be since he does well hiding in the middle of all the chaos even if he does have more eyes on him. The Haste in Shroud REALLY helps and the way he synergizes with some Killers can make for some nasty one-two combos, if they are smart and don't just spam their M2 but also go for M1 hits. It's been easier to stalk too because everyone is too busy looking for the bigger faster flashier Killer, allowing for some pretty dumb plays I frankly shouldn't be getting away with. I'm shockingly enough, not even getting Revealed as often as I thought I'd be, which is insane considering there's twice as many eyes on you as normal - maybe they adjusted his Reveal angles a bit behind the scenes? The issue is that his results depend on whether you queue with a friend and coordinate, or go in individually. Do NOT pick this Killer if you're going in as a solo Killer in 2v8, you will not have enough control and you can't carry the round as this Killer very well - he's really best played with another person in comms. The other big issue is that if Survivors are extremely good, especially queued in a team together with many Escapists on these big maps with infinity plus one pallets and stupid setups, he can very much struggle with confident loopers and people who know to keep an eye on him in chase. It's very hit or miss, so a lot like 1v4 that way. I don't think this makes him particularly weaker or stronger than he is in 1v4, however, so it's just more of the same but in larger quantity - you either are okay with that BS or you're not okay with it. Generally though I think he's still an OK support pick, if you plan around him - there's way worse Killers I could be paired with IMHO, ever try Slinger or Spirit in this mode? Frankly in terms of adjustments, I think most of his changes are fine but he could stand to have his Reveal not be quite so punishing (as usual) or at least have it give info to the other Killer when he IS Revealed. I'd also be fine with the other Killer's attacks NOT removing his stalk progress, honestly that and the Shroud Haste he gets here should just be basekit in 2025. Run Fearmonger or maybe Enforcer, and pair him with a speed or another instant down Killer like Billy or Blight.
- Facing Ghostface: Frankly not too much different from 1v4 with one exception - it's very hard to keep track of Ghostie if there's a faster or flashier Killer in play, because he simply blends into the chaos so well. I have gotten stealth double-tapped by so many Ghostfaces in 2v8 coming from nowhere while I'm trying to loop another Killer, it's always kinda funny when it happens. I can't say I've been getting Marked more than normal; I think Ghostie just hasn't got enough time to set up Marks that way in this mode especially if the team is very good or pushes gens super hard. I will say that as usual, if you and a few friends pair enough Guide and Escapist against him, then you're probably getting out if you play well enough, but that's against basically all Killers because they don't have any real generator control to speak of unless one of them is Legion (and Legion is not fun to face anyway). But I quite enjoy playing against Ghostface in both 2v8 and 1v4, so maybe I'm biased - not necessarily because he's easy to loop, but because he's genuinely fun to verse and can make the game actually still feel like horror if the player is good enough at what he does. I think he was the perfect addition to 2v8 at this time, because he's such a non-sweat pick (people who want to win really hard DO NOT choose Ghostface EVER), it really feels more like normal DBD with the addition of extra hide and seek here.
- Fog Crystals: A fine addition, not that disorienting, and kinda fun both sides. I've noticed they do nothing to hide auras or Killer Instinct so there is in fact counterplay; I noticed the same effect while playing some Ghostface rounds in Haunted by Daylight last year. A fair item for both sides that adds, rather than removes, to the core chase gameplay loop. There's truly endless dumb plays you can do with these; bring these as a thing you can find/get in the Bloodweb to normal 1v4, but keep them limited as the one use items they are - DO NOT make these just another perk I am begging you, make them an item for Survivors. I'd genuinely love to stockpile these as a stealthier Survivor that likes to lose Killers in chase; I want to see them made a thing. For events they can even spawn in chests, perhaps in something like Haunted by Daylight instead of going to the Void to get them. In any case make them recurrent, they're very cool and genuinely give something else for Survivors to have that is fun and interactive. :)
- The Classes: OK, this needs to be talked about. There's nothing changed here at all, I'm getting sick of the same four classes on every Killer and every Survivor. There's stacking going on with Survivor side and in a mode that has several M1 only Killers, a couple that only get Haste even, that's an issue and it turns the round into Sweat With Friends for Killers. As for Killers, certain combos on certain Killers are inherently problematic in that they do too much or too little - putting extra haste on someone like Wesker is too much, but Shadow does NOTHING for Ghostface. And there is STILL no generator control of any kind, in any way, for Killer at all, why don't we have a class for this yet when gens are this quick? Some Killers genuinely need it, we can't all just play with Legion and force people to Mend, or Oni and force people to Heal. For both sides, there is nothing to do with Totems - add a Boon/Hex class that can buff the team in a radius or buff the Killers overall and make Totems one hit to break, giving more for both sides to do. Add a class for Survivors that involves distracting the Killers, and add a class for Killers that involves higher injury pressure or applying other statuses. Why do we still have the same four classes and only those one year later? It's silly. Add more.
- The Maps: We have gotta address these maps because some of the loop and pallet setups here are disgusting. There does NOT need to be more God Pallets, there does NOT need to be some of these setups. On a map like the resource poor Coldwind it's fine, but somewhere like Shelter Woods or Red Forest, it's unbearable for half the current 2v8 roster. All this when you added TWO M1 Killers that generally must play around loops in this mode. Why? In addition several of the maps have horrendous collision, generally Red Forest and Chapel are the culprits this time. This makes Killers like Oni and Wesker have the issue of genuinely running into everything and not having a great time with it. I don't recall either of these being an issue in the last two iterations, so what changed? Why did we decide to make every supersize map Gideon Meat Plant with Swamp's BS collision? I don't even have fun on it as Survivor; I am 9/10 times running into everything and anything just trying to loop and there are so many strong/God pallets it's basically child's play to loop some Killers but a death trap against others. And due to the number of resources, bad Survivor teammates just drop pallets and waste them, and since very few people are running Scout because it's only really good in Comms, nobody rebuilds them. I worry it teaches Survivor players bad habits for 1v4, and ruins the experience for some Killers in the mode entirely. Please adjust the maps a little bit for the next iteration.
- Other considerations: No we don't need the Herbs back; I'd prefer each new addition to 2v8 to feel unique. We can put the herbs back in another Resident Evil related mode or event, they aren't necessary here. The cages no longer appear to move or at least take an eternity TO move, which hot take I think is a good thing - Killers were too easily finding the cages and forcing them to move so Survivors couldn't save their friends, which was very bad. I have not seen a single camper in 2v8 anyway; there's just too much for Killers to do to waste time camping cages. I appreciate that the utterly stupid decision to balance gen/hook sacrifice speeds based on who is winning was either greatly toned down or scrapped entirely - it was never a good idea in a mode that's already Survivor sided, Killers need a generator pressure mechanic in this mode, not a catchup mechanic. For both sides, in practice this feature just meant punishing doing well as your side, which never made any sense. Plus, it had different issues depending on the played side - it always felt to me like the Killers had to sweat but not too much or they lose, but Survivors had to deal with the same BS as usual if regardless of if they are struggling or not since Guide completely negated the downside to winning too hard. I do think overall the mode should, alongside other modes, be more common than Chaos Shuffle. We've had enough Chaos Shuffle, I'd even take more Lights Out over yet another round of Chaos Shuffle. I think 2v8 in this state could work as a permanent mode, but it needs its own queue and should share that queue with other events/modes. If another is on, 2v8 shouldn't be available as it will split the playerbase too much. I also think it really, REALLY needs to solve the issue with Killer queue times being super long before it even tries to become a permanent mode; I do not want to always face sweat in 1v4 but have to wait aeons for a game in 2v8.
Overall, a good iteration on 2v8 and generally welcome as reprieve from yet more Chaos Shuffle. Keep improving this, Devs, you're doing alright. :)
EDIT: What's with the downvotes now? What offended the entire forum now? Am I not allowed to have fun in 2v8?

Overall we're generally neutral about it, most likely because we don't have the patience to wait for to many killer matches.
Survivors is fine, the inclusion of the smoke bombs is nice, but that's kinda it. More surprises and chaos with ghost face added while Oni has basically become the new Billy.
As killer it's still hilarious to get ambushes and somewhat easier as gf and Oni feels "smoother" on a controller.
Kinda miss the green herbs but overall nothing bad, but nothing exceptional.

Survivor is just fun. No more or less than that. I won't be surprised if the Smoke Bomb is the new permanent item BHVR was hinting at.
I haven't played Killer because I have far too many other things I'd rather be doing with 30 to 40 minutes of my time instead of waiting for a match…

Definitely the worst iteration so far, though I'm still having a lot fun. It's solved none of the problems from the RE version and then added some on top. And the older issues are worse than ever because at least previously herbs artificially worked around the biggest frustrations.

as Killer, the three Matches I Player were fun but.. queue times are not worth it at this point.
Surv is more fun that General 1v4 with atrocious matchmaking where teammates don’t do anything which weighs way more when its 4 compared to 8 where Most are at least doing something

Need more killers. Still waiting for the Funknown.

Not great, Oni and Legion is the main problem (to nobody's surprise). Legion is mending simulator X2 and Oni is slugging simulator.
I have no idea what could really be done about Legion, all I could really come up with is to make him slower for the first few hits, but if he only finds 1 or 2 survivors and everyone else is across map, his power would be made pretty much useless.
Oni however, I believe should have some tweaks made to how he gains his power in 2v8. I'd suggest scrapping blood orbs altogether and make it so he only gains his power through direct hits. Obviously a buff to compensate would be needed but it would certainly do something about him getting his power every 2 seconds.

It's alright for bp farming, I got 200-300% bonus bp as survivor at the moment. :P

I’m just enjoying having fun relaxing games, instead of MMR sweat feasts every match.

Killer side is okay. As survivor sure Legion is annoying but it isn't game breaking. Ghostface is too weak and needs some kind of change - I dont know what still.
The bad survivor team mates - that does sometimes get to me 😅 especially the potato Sables, Michaelas, Kates and Megs who run "Medic"
The fog crystal is underwhelming.. I miss the green and yellow herbs - if they brought in something similar to those that would be better.
Overall it is enjoyable

I'm looking forward to the version where you can play survivor matches while you queue for killer, because I still don't feel like I can reasonably play killer matches — it's my whole evening gone to waiting.
From the survivor side, I like this one better than the last one — feels more balanced; not sure why. At this point, I've learned to play all of the classes & would be excited to see more.

50/50 honestly. I thought Oni/Legion would be a lot worse but the #1 problem that plagues this game, not just in this game mode, but in general - are survivors/teammates.
From not doing gens, going down upon the match starting in a less than 10 second chase, people just speedrushing saves for altruism points, to leaving someone on the hook at EGC whose been hooked for the first time, etc.
I'm enjoying this more than the basic default game mode atm. But this event could have definitely been done better.

I really enjoyed the one Legion match I played (with a Ghost Face and we got an 8K). But it was over 30 minutes of waiting, so I'm not doing that again in a hurry.
I'm pretty much over playing Survivor at this point. It's not a terrible experience, it's just become kinda stale and samey to me. I'm looking forward to future iterations where we can play Survivor while we queue for Killer, though.
With 2 lobbies worth of players needed for just one 2V8 match, it's really impacted the quality of my games in the regular mode too. So I'm just playing to finish the 2V8 quests and taking a break from DBD.

I've been enjoying 2v8 a lot, i do have a small issue when playing Wesker though. Occasionally when I grab someone against a wall, me and the survivor get stuck while they're on my shoulder before the entity takes them. There was one match I had to dc because the match never ended. It was me, the other killer and the survivor that was stuck on my shoulder. It was a little upsetting because you get nothing from disconnecting but it's whatever. I don't know what causes it but other than that, I've been really enjoying 2v8.

This appears to be a known glitch, I think there's a thread on it too.
