The Hypocrisy of Bhvr’s stance on accessibility
behavior has been a company to tell us that they are accessible and try to make the game as accessible as possible, but as we all know from killers like the spirit the words tend to be hollow at times and now these color changes reaffirm that. As a color blind person I’ll be real with everyone, the color blind mode is abysmal and doesn’t change the colors the way I need them to and now with the rarity changes that had an outcry from the colorblind community behavior has decided that accessibility just isn’t worth it because the change may make it slightly easier (not even noticeable because the items are sorted by rarity anyways) is more important than their existing players with color blindness. It feels like a slap in the face for having lousy cones in my eyes. I’ve been one in the past to give the company the benefit of the doubt but it truly feels like we were heard but not listened to. There’s a word for that, it’s called ignored.
Sincerely, a color blind player.

I don't get who thought of making the colors anti-accesible, but they certainly don't know anyone colorblind.

Here’s another one: the visual terror radius that was for “accessibility” but ended up being a massive buff for survivors that every single survivor player uses now, including myself. Killer players never got anything similar.

It would be so nice if the colours of auras, scratch marks and other effects could be edited. It would be so much easier as a colourblind person to be able to adjust them away from a shade that I find really hard to distinguish.

I also don´t get why they want to try to be Fortnite with the colours.
DbD has its own identity and they slowly take it away.
I think Fortnite players will not overwhelmingly turn into DbD players.

not true, one of the Community Managers is colorblind and was directly involved with the implementation of the colorblind settings.
Thing is, there is not just one single ‚colorblind‘ condition and people are affected differently.
it’s not a buff, it’s literally only a visual indicator something that was Audio only before. I still have situations where I hear the lullaby of a Killer before the visual indicator shows up.
there is also plenty of players that have it turned off (I have seen content creators and teammates I viewed after dying/escaping with it turned off)Killers also didnt got anything similar as there isnt anything similar to terror Radius/lullaby. Well. Maybe the Killer Instinct. But you don’t want to hear how thats implemented..
YEAH
This would be a good approach to make the game more accessible.

Still have no accessibility options for people who are deaf or hard of hearing on the killer side.

Good colorblind accommodation is smartly designing color schemes so that their contrast does not rely on hue differences, with visual acuity being independent of color differences. Bad colorblind accommodation is throwing filters on top for the most common classifications' most common color differentiation issues. The rarity color scheme change doesn't even have an option for the latter, as others have pointed out.
As for killer, the similar thing on their role would be audio: The game's audio has been wildly inaccessible for years, and by design choice. The visual TR killed lullabys as they were supposed to be much less apparent until the killer got closer but instead the visual icon started before many people would even find the lullaby perceptible, especially when adding in other sounds like generator repairs or healing. I'm not saying it shouldn't have happened (quite the opposite) but it shows a pretty big double standard in design vs accessibility considerations.
1000% agree with both of you about aura colors though.

As someone who's colorblind, I legit couldn’t tell the difference between the second and third perk tiers I thought they were identical until I squinted at the little number off to the side like I was decoding ancient runes. No clue why we ditched the old color scheme that worked fine for the most part and was a core part of look of the game.
Honestly, by now we should just be able to pick our own colors for perks, auras, whatever. Let me make my perks hot pink with glitter if I want it's all cosmetic, not competitive. Just a little spice for the soul.

There should be fixed color sets in the options where everyone can choose their favorites.
