Why is the game so unfun right now?
Mostly speaking about the anniversary mode. So many of my matches are complete stomps lately in either direction. Is it an MMR issue?
I'll get teammates that sandbag all game, load in literally AFK doing nothing for a solid minute or 2 while everyone is dying. Basically, at least 1, or sometimes 2 teammates will seem literally like baby survivors, like brand new players.
And on the flip side. My killers will be playing with legit competitive builds slamming us into the floor at 5 gens as hard as they can as if we gen rushed them and the gates are powered already.
I logged off for the day because I'm having absolutely no fun lately. Again, not sure if this is an MMR problem right now, or the fact that they keep splitting the queue into the "main mode" and the party modes (anniversary, chaos shuffle, 2v8, and so on).
For the record, a "fun game" doesn't have to be a game I win/escape. I just want to actually have good chases and get a lot of bloodpoints and at least have a CHANCE (like make it to at least 3 or 2 gens remaining AT LEAST). I don't exactly know what it is, but the quality of my games is TERRIBLE lately.
Anyone else experiencing this too?

For everyone who isn’t having fun with the event, the best thing you can do if you want changes is to not play it. If BHVR sees that the numbers are down, they will hopefully get the hint that they need to think of some adjustments or even total reworks for future anniversary events. I don’t really like the event either, and I have just gone back to regular mode as soon as I finished my event achievements.
15 -
Fair suggestion but we do already know this specific anniversary event is being retired. Next year will be 10 years of DBD so I assume they will do something pretty spectacular. I just hope it doesn't also come at the expense of quality matches like right now!

Keep in mind that, in events & modifiers, MMR is deactivated (as far as I know).
A day 1 player actually has a slim chance of playing with/vs people from the top 1%.
So insane MMR mismatches are very common during events.
MMR being deactivated also affects some players' behavior;
-Killers can 4k all they want with no fear of climbing MMR and ending up against strong teams.
-Survivors care a bit less about dying and farming BP sometimes take priority over actually escaping.
3 -
I was getting Ghoul almost every match so I switched to main mode.
19 -
If this is true "Keep in mind that, in events & modifiers, MMR is deactivated (as far as I know)." it's one of the stupidest decisions the developers could have ever made. I'll make sure to steer clear of the event then unless they do something about this nonsense. It's so unfun it's actually making me dislike playing the game in general. Not really what a gaming company should be aiming for with their playerbase.
I'll just suffer through the challenges when they release then and get the event items and wipe my hands of it I guess. So much for playing it to have fun LOL.

Its the same issue with every event dead by daylight does, the players are just miserable people. I was doing killer but the Q times were so long I swapped to survior and holy cow. no wonder why the Q times are so long. It is absolutley miserbale being survivor in this event. Its not even the balance either, I just keep getting paired with the most toxic players imaginable. Most of my matches have resulted in me being slugged and/or humped. The team balancing has been god awful as well. Its like ive been getting hyper competitive killers with inexperienced survivors (i have high mmr for both sides). Like i feel like i can only enjoy this mode playing as killer because its the only way to have a chill goofy match. But when i first started the event I was looping for 5 gens, now its just super high ping killers BMing the whole time.
basically i think survivors dont really care about surviving and just want points (only reason why i play it), while the killers need the 4k or else they wont be allowed to eat dinner for the next week.
19 -
This is exactly my experience!!!! You nailed it when you said super high ping killers which I've been getting so much more often as well! What is that about? Literally 100+ and more ping killers and even sometimes survivors too, like all of us will have egregious ping levels. Like the servers are just screwed up. It makes the match even worse when it's already so many bad games in a row!
6 -
i get A LOT
i get A LOT of VPN killers in my area (East Coast US), they're typically the super toxic ones. I find the best time to play if you want genuinely enjoyable non sweaty non toxic games….is to play before like 5pm. After that it gets really miserable. I dont even bother playi8ng weekends anymore because its so awful.
5 -
Because BHVR's idea of "good balance" is making sure one side - the Survivors - have a horrible time. Map design is outright awful - maps are too small, too cluttered, and too many maps place the doors right next to each other, their anti-toxic crap solutions are nothing more than placebos, and their priorities are on the wrong things 90% of the time. Just look at the reaction time between that crap AFK crow change they tried, which wasn't good in the PTB that they let go through the PTB and only seemingly fixed during the anniversary update, yet they were quick to react to people not being happy with Houndmaster's mask.
Basically, it's unfun because the developers are, at best, incompetent, or at worst actively sabotaging one side's experience so their preferred side has more fun.
13 -
I have to say, getting the same killer back to back is a big reason I end up just shutting the game and not playing again for days to weeks. New DLC is the worst for me, same killer over and over just gets so exhausting and unfun.
Unless it's Bubba, I will take Bubba all day every day
10 -
That's always been the disconnect. Survivors care more about the experience and Killers care more about the win. Then the Survivors question the Killer's experience while the Killers accuse the Survivors of only caring about winning lmao
11 -
Surprisingly, my dear friend, I did get a reasonably good variety of killers today. Though obviously Springtrap appeared A LOT.
0 -
Yes General, I do too on most days but just after DLC release it is the same killer over and over for me for some time, it is why I stop playing when a new DLC releases.
It is more that sometimes you get the same killer back to back and I dunno about you but by the 3rd Legion in a row I start to lose motivation big time. Same thing happened with Wesker, a killer I know you are not a big fan of, after he came out I got him back to back on many days for months on end after his release.
But yes I do get Springtrap a LOT too

I really hope they will make survivior experience better.
I kinda play for cakes now, even after going against kaneki, after kaneki, after blight, kaneki, blight, nurse, blight, kaneki… etc.
EHHH!
1 -
no fun allowed until 2v8 is back unfortunately. until then its just the same meta perks, same meta killers, same camping and tunneling nonsense. i swear every game feels the same it's tiring.
6 -
Devs won't ever admit it but this game is meant to be played with teammates, ideally using comms. Solo q with randoms is borderline pointless, survivor is purposely designed to lose that's BHVR balance philosophy
23 -
I can't say im having the exact same experience, 70% of the time i do pretty well, get lots of points, maybe die or make it out the door. The other 30% are springtraps or kanekis turbo tunneling people off the hooks so all you can do is try to get points before its your turn (if you weren't chosen first)
1 -
My best tip is if you are a solo you should run a build designed to know which direction the killer is located at and to hide your marks and just do gens for most bloodpoints in the event, if i manage to be left with 1 gen left and left all alone i basically simply die and get away with 115k - 155k bloodpoints.

If I recall correctly, MMR is still used for matchmaking in such events, but it is not updated for certain events regardless of the match outcome.
I think the idea is that modifiers don't reflect core gameplay skill levels, and thus shouldn't be used to advance or lower MMR. But they do want to avoid insane skill mismatches where possible.
Basically, we're supposed to be able to just have some fun without having that get us into crazy situations later…whether or not that's what people are actually doing... I agree that the event is absolutely filled with tunneling and proxy camping to such an extent that if the core game were like this, BHVR would probably go out of business.
1 -
At least Springtrap is more manageable than Ghoul
3 -
The anniversary has been miserable for me so far. I switched to normal mode a couple of nights ago and the games were much more enjoyable. I am only doing the anniversary for the challenges. When I complete them I switch back to normal.
10 -
Cant argue with that
4 -
Event was killer sided last year. What they did this year? Kept the exact same thing but made it even more killer sided. Remote hook straight to a scourge hook, or next to a gen with a lot of progress, or to the opposite corner of the map. And survivors can't even block windows before vaulting too. 2 changes leaning towards the killer. It's just very unfun to survivors, it's not worth it.
10 -
Solo Q is miserable. I noticed few commit to gens and often abandon them, letting that 50% or higher gen just regress unnecessarily. A lot of times, they are too afraid, even at zero hooks and in the healthy state.
5 -
That is a fair point, my friend!
Honestly, I don't mind getting a smaller variety of killers if those killers are the ones I like most, though unfortunately that is rarely ever the case. I have been seeing Freddy more often, which I really enjoy, but other than him, there are many killers I don't really like but are very popular (Wesker, Blight, Xeno).
1 -
I thought I was the only one being miserable. I did do killer and those survivors are just toxic as anything. The best my kid played on Friday and ran a killer for 2 gens then gets a message to kill himself. It was reported but nothing done.
1 -
They should follow up on that kind of report. Did you also submit a report at Behavior's website?
I've been finding the event super fun as killer and miserable as survivor. I'm sorry to hear your kid had that experience :(
2 -
Games are either 4k stomps at 5-4 gens or the most gen efficient survivors of all time and 2 of them loop like they can see me through walls.
3 -
seeing that avatar hurts…I miss the old one

I am not that great at killer but I am being matched with people out of my league. I get it and I am not mad about I just don’t like how they taunt at the end of a match it makes no sense to me. I have been playing video games since Atari came out so if you wanted to play someone they were right next to you and you knew how to act.
My son must shook it off. He knows people say stupid things, but what if he was more naive or just in a bad mental place. People have no respect and it’s sad.

Because one side of the game is so unbelievably bad its practically unplayable, any survivors that are actually "winning" aren't even playing the same game. Solo Survivor players are leaving the game in droves because of how awful the experience is while killer queues get longer and longer because nothing has been done to help them whatsoever. The game relies exclusively around kills instead of hooks so one person is always out of the match before 5 minutes passes and barely gets to interact with the game whatsoever.
-4 -
Fully agreed. I vaguely remember trying to get Spiderman to climb that damn building with a joystick and button, but have more memories of games from just a bit later :D
But if people kept acting like they do in online gaming communities, they definitely weren't getting invited back for long…
I do actually find the DBD community way way better than the LoL community though. I quit League because I got tired of the way people acted. So I'm pretty happy to engage here and on Twitch, and try to be mostly positive :)

same here
2 -
I’ve had messages sent to me like that too, reported them, and same result - nothing. If BHVR doesn’t want to take chat harassment seriously, they should just get rid of the chat feature altogether.
6 -
Plenty of solo queue survivors escape regularly, include myself. If you’re well below the average escape rate, it’s a skill issue. The constant “nerf killers” trolling is getting old.
-7 -
I play exclusively Solo Q when I play Survivor. These are my Last 30 Days stats:
I'm not that good. I just stick to gens while trying to make the best play I can. Most often, when I lose, I don't lose because of the "Oppressive Tunneling Killer," I lose because Feng went for a flashlight save, missed, and then went down. Or because my teammates will literally give the killer free downs because they're trying to body block or sabo a hook. Or someone farms a hook and then gets both the person they unhooked and themselves downed. Then we get snowballed because multiple people are down right next to the killer.
Most of my games are lost because my teammates are absolute garbage, and that's coming from someone who's not that good. It's really sad when I'm the best survivor on the team. And I somehow STILL have an over 50% escape rate.
-3 -
The anniversary mode is poorly designed and one-sided, probably the most one-sided event they've ever created. Baffling how a studio could design an absolute dogshit mode and call it anniversary. The worst part about the mode is how everything seemingly continues to favor high mobility killers that don't get punished for making mistakes. We're on year nine, and Nurse is still in need of a rework, Blight is overpowered and needs slight nerfs, and Ghoul gets far too much out of their first hit for how free it is. Every other killer is either healthy or needs slight buffs. Solo queue continues to be neglected compared to SWF, and SWF needs slight nerfs as well. I'm not sure why they're not required to be at least different characters with unique perks and builds.
3 -
I thought I was one of the few, glad (yet sad) to know I'm not alone.
I picked up some of the survivors I didn't have with shards and trying to adept some has been awful.
So many toxic people and even killers bringing moris into event 😑
I got a NOED/Blood Warden Ghoul when before that I had a slugging Oni and another Ghoul that hook camped me to death (on top of tombstone Myers). Not to mention the solo q teammate pain at times (like a teammate actually body blocked me on purpose).
I actually kinda liked the Twisted Masquerade (was a bit sad it's going away) and I can't even have fun in it as survivor before it's gone. ☹️1 -
I have 10k hours in this game. I'm actually considering after all these years of dropping the game. No matter what I do it's no fun. I play survivor, I get matched with idiots that seem like they just started playing today. Escape maybe 1/10 matches. Play killer and get gen rushed so hard, I get sometimes just two or three hooks. How is this fun for anyone? Gen rushing is the stupidest most boring way to play. Nobody gets points or pipping that way. And in an event, gen rushing and killing people as fast as you can is so beyond stupid in an event where it's all about the blood points.
I don't know how much longer I can keep playing this game like this. And they are not doing nearly enough to change it.
1 -
This is exactly my experience. The result is not fun in either experience.
2 -
Encounter a lot of BNP + Hyperfocus + Stakeout players?
Because that's the only gen rushing that exists anymore. Otherwise it's just survivors doing gens.
How do you have over twice my hours and still complain about gen rushing like a killer with a fraction of my hours?
2 -
Xeno popular ? How lucky of you. I would be glad to take all of your Xeno games, i love facing it. I wish i could trade my Freddys for your Xenos. I don't hate or love facing Freddy, i find him flat and uninteresting. Xeno is a double edged sword in flesh, i get hyped as soon as i see a control station.

EVERY event and I mean EVERY event is like this, the salty players always come in to ruin it, hopefully something will be done about players ruining others games. But that to be discussed bc no one cares
1 -
Lol yes I imagine you would enjoy seeing the Fredster, rarely see him either sadly and I agree with you on Xeno and Blight, not the biggest fan though I would prefer Blight over Xeno personally!
0 -
I suppose we need to consider that design and development of the event this year suffered due to their shift of focus to QOL changes, which we all did ask for in fairness.
1 -
btw the more they keep punishing killers for any performance that isnt winning chases super fast, the worse this will get because killers "boosted by low skill strategies" will be put against survivors that dont require these strategies to beat
-2 -
every little update bugs the game out even more . Kaneki is bugged , twins are still bugged , wesker has bugs , houndmaster is bugged , dracula is bugged , nurse has bugs , knight has bugs , nemesis has bugs , audio is bugged . Can we fix these things as if we don't it will only keep adding up
1 -
The game is unbalanced so that's what the community gets. SWF stomps Killer, Killer stomps SoloQ. Not to mention the plethora of bugs that they refused to actually fix or address, especially the bugs with Springtrap or how they keep getting Surv gameplay to balance out SWF's which is ruining SoloQ.
I tried playing the anniversary event in SoloQ, miserable experience, so bad that BHVR should be embarrassed that this is what they have created. I load in and within 7 seconds, someone is down by a blight that clearly has lethal pursuer to immediately initiate a chase, no one has even touched a gen yet. I just DC'd because I know how those games go, we all know how they go and I'm not wasting my time. I see it's a ttv, so I check the ttv to see what they're like. Some whiny sounding middle aged man with no views talking to nobody because I was the only viewer, talking to an imaginary chat. I watched the rest of the Survs try to initiate a friendly game while the Blight just hooked them and then camped the hooks, at 5 gens, while then tunneling the Survs off hook. Someone else DC'd because of it, meanwhile this blight is saying things like "Should I start slugging them chat? Just kidding, of course I'm going to slug them haha". A match where not even a single gen was even worked on, where after I DC'd and then someone else did right after. Dude never took a moment to even contemplate that maybe he should ease up and relax the sweatfest.
Again, no viewers, certainly no chat. So I logged into my TTV account and commented on the stream about how this killer was playing like a real pos. You know what happened next? The whiny baby DC'd from the match after raging on stream about my comment, then ended their stream.
This is who DBD caters to, this is who DBD really is for, this is the playerbase BHVR has created. The lowest common denominators in gaming that play the game, not for fun or to facilitate fun, but to play only to make other players miserable so that they can feel good about themselves for 5 minutes.6 -
Honestly, I prefer Xeno over Blight. At least the turrets are there to be a minor inconvenience before you inevitably go down because of the tail attack.
2 -
It's a combination of a lack of survivors and Behavior's refusal to give this game a real matchmaking system. It doesn't help that they seem to take a lot of advice from content creators. In my experience these are the people most likely to lobby AGAINST stricter matchmaking. I have listened to some of the biggest content creators passionately defend the awful system that we have now. Of course there are some people like OhTofu who think the matchmaking should be more strict but I feel like he is in the minority among this group.
