Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

The Twisted Masquerade: An Underwhelming Goodbye

Let me start off by saying this is not an attack on the developers or anyone who enjoys the theme of the event.

Naturally the servers being down/sporadic is disappointing but also out of the devs control. Yet it does still add some salt to the wound. It's the anniversary of the game, and for some variety of reasons feels oddly unceremoniously deployed.

  • Theming: What happened to the celebration of the final masquerade event? With the lobby still being the same as the most recent chapter it does feel incredibly lacking of festivity. It's a very unjust send-off. Even the decorated maps have no dedicated queue, so the festivities are unlikely to be seen frequently or at all by casual players considering just how many maps are in the game and especially following the recent map offerings nerf.

  • Tryks: Love her or hate her everyone has their own opinions. But what about people who just want to queue for the gameplay but not the character? Tryks feels incredibly forced and out of place when up against 80% of the cast who is only capable of grunting and screaming.

  • Event Rewards: Anniversary offerings have been intentionally reduced this year. While it was bugged and resolved for Prestige 100 characters, the fact is it was an intentional decision across the board for any other level. Players who play infrequently tend to make time to play during this event as it's the best time of the year to make bloodpoints and be merry. It's no surprise that we broke the record of active players yet again, so imagine their surprise when they see how the offerings they earn are unlikely to last them the full year.

  • Bloodpoints Earned: I'm deeply surprised there isn't a modifier active this year. You would have thought the Final Feast would have launched with a Blood Feast? Yes we had some currency boosts leading up to the anniversary but it makes the event itself feel lacking. Older offerings also seem to not multiply the event scoring. Whether a bug or by design, this punishes players who played previously but may not want to level the same character. Event scoring also seems to be very lacking, as most of the Party Favours don't feature unique scoring events. Survivors don't get to consistently benefit from the generator completion event as the event is personal and not global. Meanwhile the basement is oddly empty this year and the basement hooks do not provide any scoring events either.

  • Event Innovation And Balancing: This event is largely a copy and paste from last year. We have the same host, the same Party Favours, and even the Event Powers are from last year. It's a bit too predictable of an event, ironically so considering the chaotic energy of its host. While remote hooking has been nerfed and its bugs fixed, remote break is incredibly strong and unaddressed 3 years in a row. Survivor powers are incredibly underwhelming compared to the absolute power houses killers can use.

So where does this leave us? I have my own opinions on next steps, but unfortunately these frustrations are being echoed by a growing number of players.

Yea, as I commented on another post, for this being the final party I was hoping for a big blow out and not a repeat of last year's anniversary event.

I'm not playing the anniversary event much this year. In years prior I'm on daily for at least an hour, but this year I'm on once a week for maybe three matches.

What I would of liked to see is more from Tryks since it's her last party and new party ticks instead, like all hooks and gens blocked for 30 second but survivors can't go down. Or crows with tiny party hats!

If the 10th anniversary doesn't blow it out of the water I likely go play other games.

Jeez I dunno man, I am just here for the BP and I get a lot of those. I would be happier if there was less tunnelling and killer sweat like they think they are in a tournament against solo queue but otherwise… meh, I honestly don't care. I have hundreds of cakes on several characters already, which is more than I could use for every match in the event and everyone generally uses a cake so BP earnings are good.

I don't know what Tryks is as I really stopped following most of their social media and announcements, I assume it is the obnoxious woman who comments in matches at present? She is irritating but again… meh, just give me the BP thank you.

I honestly miss when the game felt like a horror game, when maps were darkly lit and it didn't feel like a circus with all kinds of additions that don't really fit a horror theme. But here we are I guess, just give me the BP

Given their QoL initiative I'm not really too pressed about the event being copy paste (though I've never really liked it in the first place, aesthetically or mechanically) but also like…

Outside of the bulk spending we really haven't seen the fruits of their labor yet. Most of the changes were either just okay or actively detrimental to the health of the game. To the point where I think everyone is scratching their heads wondering if the second batch of QoL changes is even going to be worth the time they spent on putting it together, time that could've been spent elsewhere. Like on an improved event, or on map design, or taking a real in depth look at killer disparity, or controller settings, or…

The Anniversary is meant to be a huge celebration but it's always been the worst of the big three events for me. Halloween and the Winter event have better theming, cosmetics and way more fun game play mechanics.

It's kind of sad that BHVR don't seem too hyped about it this year either and it definitely feels more like an afterthought. There's nothing new to the event this time around, but I understand they've been busy with QoL stuff on top of FNAF, so I guess something had to give.

I personally won't be all that sorry to see it go. Never really enjoyed the fancy pants cosmetics (though Billy's outfit from a couple of years ago was great). I'm looking forward to what they're cooking up for us next year, though.

Remote pallet breaking has to go next year. That's for sure.

Tho I don't understand why they nerfed cake gain - I would get 70-80 cakes on a killers per prestige last year. Today it's 40-50 cakes :(

This is the first anniversary where I just don't really care or feel like I am missing out on anything. Especially not after they nerfed the drop rate for cakes. In total I have played about 30 matches. Basically all of which happened in the first few days of the event. Since then I just haven't logged into the game at all.

    I agree. 💯

Wish basement was more decorative and lobby had our anniversary music 🎶 though but I am enjoying the event

ESPECIALLY bc they said this masquerade was supposed to be the "BIGGEST YET" and its just copy and paste of the previous versions likeeeeee where is the thing that makes this the biggest????

    Personally, I am enjoying it!

Got my Mikaela to P100 and now I am leveling Skull Merchant up, the BP gains are really nice and the powers are fun to use.

The lack of a anniversary-themed lobby is disappointing, yes, but other than that I think the event is great!

Agree with GeneralV, I'm actually quite liking this one, the usual event playstyles are eye rolling but expected after all these years.

I don't particularly care for tryx or the Masquerade & I'm glad its going, but I'm definitely seeing way more anniversary cake offerings than ever before.

As I spread blood points around I'm Currently playing all survivors in order bringing them up one level then moving to the next one, usually only 3 or 4 games live or die!

Definitely more bps per game than last year where I barely saw event offerings, my killer games are chill, I have always played that way & for 11 hooks but I don't mind taking 8 & easing off (farming isn't especially for me)

Probably enjoyed this event more than any since the slush gens bbq many years ago!

This. Devs have a truck history of giving us lackluster events. Im just surprised by the nerf in coconut pies. Especially seeing we have a ton of new players.

You think they'd boost them seeing all these new players. Not the opposite.

I'm a huge fan of the overall aesthetic (especially the cosmetics) and will definitely miss that if they go for a different theme next year. Also, I'm a fan of Tryks and it's a shame that there's not some event toggle in the settings where you could have her on full blast if you wanted to or at her current almost muted state.
