How is this okay?
Wondering why I am getting hit from 20 feet away and then I look at the ping…
This should not be allowed to happen, utterly ridiculous, even playing EU from OCE on ExitLag is 350ish ping, so where the hell is this guy playing from?!

I was observing team mates and this was where one of my team mates was when he got hit through a window
Why doesn't BHVR implement ping limits?

Less customers

I dont think the issue is someone's ping but moreso the fact that the netcode accepts too much information without proper verification. I personally would not mind facing off against someone with 700+ ms, but it should at least feel fair for me if I have a more stable internet connection, it currently does not feel fair with how things currently are tho.
7 -
I usually have 30 to 40 ping and it feels like punished for having good ping.
Like when I played against a Survivor with like 300 ping and they just seemingly teleported around. Worst was the Wesker with literally 1000+ ping where I predropped a pallet, and half a second later then he grabbed me as if I still hadn't even reached the pallet yet.
Either having bad ping should DC you or they should fix their net code to give bad ping a huge disadvantage.
8 -
I disagree with that, every single person I see abusing ping could play on servers closer to them, they just CHOOSE to play on servers where they have obscene ping as that gives them an unfair advantage. It is essentially exploiting imo
You would not mind facing someone with 700ms ping?!!! I don't even know if we can have any meaningful discussion if you consider 700ms ping is in any way acceptable in any online game other than PVE
Edit to add: people voting me down for my OP saying 700+ ms ping is ridiculous and should not happen?! I guess some people love going against killers with such high ping they hit you out of nowhere and it is literally unplayable? SMH…
8 -
I feel the same, I actually seem to get punished for having extremely good ping (I was the top 14ms one in my image), as the hits that got me were obscene and it was literally unplayable. I really don't get how this is allowed to happen
2 -
Not long ago, I went against an Oni with over 1000 ping lol it was anyone's guess where he'd appear from and when you'd go down
7 -
Lol… I mean, not funny but I can only laugh at the absurdity of this even being a thing. This wasn't that bad but not far off, no way you can possibly outplay hits as there is literally no way to know where the killer actually is relative to your own position. Crazy…

Don't understand how its 2025 yet this game can barely hold up on any front. Gamebreaking bugs in the game for over a week, servers falling apart nearly every day, no ping limitations just allowing people to queue into a game at 1k+ ping and not be punished, high ping getting the upper hand while lower ping players get screwed over.
4 -
I do think this one is a really basic one to fix, no PVP game should allow people to play matches at 700ms ping lmao. It's absolute madness
5 -
Idk if its easy or anything, but warframe specifically has ping limits and it asks you if you want to join a lobby with high ping compared to your setting. Why something like that doesn't exist in a PVP game like this is beyond me.
2 -
I mean… we used to have ping in the lobby so we could avoid these people but it got removed. Clearly something's going on.
6 -
Yep I played back before dedicated servers so I remember that too (and the lag switching lol).
Even just showing ping in the lobby would make the problem work itself out, as only those who think 700ms ping is okay would stay and the rest of us could leave and play normal matches instead!
0 -
I swear fixing this + MMR would greatly increase the escape rate.
1 -
Well I mean, this is a guaranteed win for this killer which should not be a thing simply because someone is exploiting factors outside of the control of their opponents.
1 -
Like you I often have around 20 ping, I am always getting cheated on vaults where I will be hit after taking multiple steps through the window as a survivor. Then to make it feel even more unfair, on the opposite side, being a good ping killer you are forced to have to be 100% accurate with everything no leeway whatsoever.
I don't think it would irritate me so much if I felt like I wasn't punished for being a good ping survivor against a middling to bad ping killer
1 -
Lets be honest, you already get this hits if the killer has 60 ping, which is much more ridiculous. And I just remind you that killers always have priority.
2 -
Never understood why they removed the Killers Ping in the Lobby. You saw your own ping, now you only see it when it is very high, but your own Ping as Survivor was not as important as the Killers Ping. It does not matter that I have 30 Ping when the Killer has high Ping, I will get hit over windows like there is no tomorrow.
@Topic:
Agreed. At some point it should not be able to play the game. I can understand why they are lenient with it, since not every region has Dedicated Servers, but 700 Ping means the person is VPNing, there is no way that 700 Ping is the closest Server for them.

I mostly play solo queue these days and it irritates me that I have a great connection and I am not dropping out of the match with stability issues etc. However, if some unethical exploiter wants to abuse ping as this guy clearly was, there is nothing I can do and I either have to just put up with someone abusing ping or DC.

I'm based in Europe, and I often times play with people from the US. Hi there @HeroLives
While I have around 40 ping on my local European server, I sit at around 120 ping on the US East server, which is manageable against low-ping killers in that region. But as soon as I see someone who has more than 100 ping, things get crazy fast. It is as if the netcode can't handle ping differences of more than around 200 ms. Like, I have been hit more times behind walls and at the safe side of a window than what should be allowed.0 -
Such a bad reason when you are giving up 4 peoples fun over the 1 who has the terrible connection.
2 -
And now trapping those 4 people in the game and saying YOU MUST play this game that you can't possibly win with this killer who is rewarded for lagging
0 -
my high score was 11,000 ping. I play from the international space station
1 -
I think they were saying that if the game was capable of verifying in-game information correctly, it wouldn't matter if the opponent had high ping. As it wouldn't verify laggy hits in the first place.
0 -
BHVR allows this because they really don’t care if you have to play with high ping teammates or opponents. If they really did care, they would let players see the actual pings of everyone in the lobby. They care far more about player count than quality of the player experience.
1 -
I strongly oppose Ping/Latency Limits because of how they affect some people. Not everyone has a stable internet connection, youll see some people have 30-70 ms for the entire match but spike up to high ms for a few seconds only to go back to 30-70 ms; players in that case would get kicked because of Ping/Latency Limits because they cross the threshold.
Often at times, you dont even have control over your Ping/Latency. DBD has had persistent issues where players are put into matchmaking regions outside of their own region, resulting in them naturally having higher Ping/Latency.
Generally speaking, with how the game is at the moment, I think it would be a horrible idea to implement Ping/Latency Limits, and even still, I would still be opposed since it is up to the developers to provide good enough Netcode to properly handle situations where players are lagging.
I dont even know if we can have any meaningful discussion if you consider 700 ms is in any way acceptable in any online game other than PVE.
Probably because I moreso disagree with the prospect of Ping/Latency Limits because I dont think they would fit DBD with how their matchmaking and servers work at the moment.
It's not disingenuous either, Im providing my opinions based on what Ive seen with DBD and other games, Ive seen Ping/Latency Limits fail time and time again. Improving the Netcode should be a higher priority in my opinion.
Guess some people love going against Killers with such high ms that they hit you out of nowhere and it's literally unplayable.
As I mentioned in my original comment, the way the game currently is does not feel fair for people with low Ping/Latency, I hate facing off against high Ping/Latency players.
My issue is when you go out of your way to punish people or make their product outright unplayable for them based on conditions that they might have little/no control over; or just punishing players based on matchmaking and server issues.
BHVR should take the time to actually improve the Netcode to make it fair for low Ping/Latency players, since it directly addresses the issue as opposed to just applying a bandaid over it and kicking it under the rug.
-2 -
If someones ping is actively causing people to have a less enjoyable time in the game, they simply should not be able to play PVP games. If they cannot consistently get a steady ping they do not deserve to be playing something online with other people that require tighter internet connection.
1 -
It's so funny how you managed to completely ignore half the points I made.
As I said before, DBD has matchmaking and server issues. We've had these issues for a long time. I am constantly sent to out-of-region servers which I am given high Ping/Latency because the game's matchmaking and servers do not function properly; and players I put against also have this issue.
Let's say I play a match, I get sent to an out-of-region server and have 300-400 ms. Ping/Latency Limits kicks in and I get kicked from the match and get hit with a matchmaking penalty. Suddenly me, a player with a stable internet connect, is being punished by a system because it's a short-sided bandaid fix that fundamentally serves to not fix anything with DBD's issues (and in fact make things worse).
Congratulations, the anti-"Go Next" system 2.0, players get punished by things out of their control. :/

No one is asking for limitations, people want bad awful ping to not get rewarded with BS hits.
0 -
They simply should not be able to play PVP games. If they cannot consistently get a steady ping they do not deserve to be playing something online with other people that require tighter internet connection.
No PVP game should allow people to play matches at 700ms ping lmao.
Why doesnt BHVR implement ping limits?
Here. Also many other people asking for Ping/Latency Limitations, but just a few examples, since people are very much asking for Ping/Latency Limits.
People want bad awful ping to not get rewarded with BS hits.
THAT'S WHAT I HAVE BEEN SAYING THIS ENTIRE TIME. Improving the Netcode SHOULD create situations where low Ping/Latency players do not get hit by something that is unfair.
I literally even say it here. "The netcode accepts too much information without proper verification" and "it should at least feel fair for me if I have a more stable internet connect".

I'm not questioning you, I'm agreeing with you sorry. I don't want people to not be able to play the game, I want BHVR to fix their netcode.
0 -
Imagine you not being able to play a game you bought cause your ping was bad or just terrible for a day. Sometimes it's not even the person's internet fault but the game itself that causes ping to massively raise.
0 -
Why would you buy a PVP game if you know your internet is bad and it will ruin the experience for others in the first place? So it is everyone else's problem if you have bad internet? Well, it ends up being everyone else's problem and if the game is putting you into servers with higher ping, find another lobby but even then I have never seen the game put anyone in 700ms lobbies!
Totally agree.
If you have bad internet, well it sucks to be you but I don't see why everyone else in a match should just have to suffer because you have bad internet. You can still play countless PVE and COOP games too
I play NA servers from OCE but ONLY as survivor, my ping to west coast servers is about 150ms - 180ms and for survivor the difference is it puts me at a big disadvantage, as I cant greed anything and constantly get hit 10 feet through windows and pallets etc. I am really talking about killers who exploit ping as it gives them a very obvious advantage
Making ping visible in lobbies again would almost solve the problem with virtually no other intervention needed by BHVR. As we could simply leave a lobby with some killer trying to abuse 700ms ping and they would have to find servers closer to them
2 -
They don't because when I play Killer and have 30ms when I'm facing Survs that have +100ms, they never get hit at vaults and often I'm getting pallet stunned when I'm not even near the pallet. When I do down them, I watch their body teleport 2 meters in any direction because of how bad their ping is. Yet when I'm Surv with 30ms playing against Killers with +100ms, I'm getting hit through vaults I'm nowhere near anymore and I'm getting hit through pallet stuns.
0 -
Because the killer ping is all that matters. So being a good ping survivor you are punished by a bad ping killer and as a good ping killer you are "fair" but it feels unfair because of what happens to you when you play survivor.
0 -
This is the way of the land when playing with people from other countries, or having bad internet 😅
0 -
Except that the Killers ping doesn't, as I stated when I'm playing Killer and I'm getting punished for Survs with worse ping. The game prioritizes high ping over low ping. If you have really great ping you're punished in this game.

Hits are based on killer ping. Which is why on my 20 ping I get hit 5 steps through a window by a laggy killer but as a killer I can swing at a survivor who has only just landed on the other side of a window I hit the window frame.
A killer with bad ping gets hits they are not supposed to. A killer with good ping only gets the hits that are 100% accurate. You ARE punished for being a good ping survivor against a laggy killer. You have to work far harder as a good ping killer than a laggy killer - hence, feeling punished for being a good ping killer too when you compare it to your experience against laggy killers.
I know this because I am one of these people who feels punished for not being cheap with his connection.
Good ping survivor vs good ping killer is still not perfect because BHVR manage to mess ot up but it is significantly more fair as a survivor.

Again… why are we forced to put up with this?
