Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Licenses extending past horror icons...

I am fine with new chapters not being exclusively horror however I do think there is a line. I believe a month ago people were debating if Darth Vader would be a good fit in the game and it got me thinking about the future of licensed chapters. Many people do not like anything added to not be horror but I think these people are truly limiting themselves. You can make a lot of characters from media fit into this game from all different sorts of genres.

I think if Behavior added the Joker from the Batman franchise, for example, it could work very well. It's not horror but he is scary if you put yourself into a position of one of his victims. Now this isn't to say they should not focus on horror icons first and foremost. I still want to see Jason Voorhees in this game and it's a travesty he hasn't made it in the game yet (mainly due to legal battles over the licensing I know) but there is room for more licenses that aren't exclusively horror.

But what is the line for you guys?

they just need to add a horror twist

how about not just darth vader but him from the star wars zombies universe..

i will take litterly anything as long as they do it right. i was legit hoping for an actually naughty bear chapter tbh

I think so long as they're horror adjacent, or could qualify as a horror villain in their universe (like Vecna, for example), then I think they'd be fine.

Though, as cool as Darth Vader would be, let's be real, BHVR would make him overpowered, like everyone else. I can already see them doing Force related abilities where he could either throw his Lightsaber or pull a Survivor to him.

The furthest I'd go is horror-adjacent. And even then, that really only works for survivors. I'd prefer that the 18+ rated game didn't add a villain from a franchise that is mostly rated PG, it diminishes the game's reputation as a horror game.

I feel like the main thing about this topic is that the playerbase enjoys that DBD has become the "Ultimate Horror Crossover Game," but at the same time none of us want the game to become horror game Fortnite.

I think that comes from the fact that so many things are in Fortnite at this point that the licensers getting their IPs into Fortnite aren't doing that because of the love of Fortnite and wanting to see their characters in it, but only as another way for the IP to generate cash.

DBD fans don't want that happening. The best licensed chapters are the most authentic ones; we'd all hate to see licenses start popping into DBD only just to take the money from our wallets.

I stand by wanting a dragon age chapter

Literal demon as a killer Alistair and Morrigan as survivors

I think they need less chapters and more bug fixes and quality of life changes. This would allow them to stretch out their actual horror licenses out while improving the health of the game.

Personally I’m on team “this is starting to look like Fortnite” . I don’t think that just because a villain is scary (it’s a villain…they’re supposed to be), means they belong in dbd. I would also prefer more original chapters, we have thousands of years of human history and myth to inspire new monsters and survivors. Having earth Vader, although would be fun. Kinda kills the horror vibe and sets a precedent that anyone can be in the game. Hence the Fortnite argument.

Bloody cheers to that, that man!

I hear arguments all the time from a number of locations like:

    • DBD isn't a horror game anymore, it's chase action and isn't scary.
    • DBD has bright neon skins for Survivors that betray the horror atmosphere.
    • DBD has goofy skins like Rabbit Legion and Elephant Clown.
    • DBD has killer characters that suck as a horror archetype such as Skull Merchant and Trickster.
    • DBD has licenses like Tomb Raider and Dungeons and Dragons that aren't horror IPs.
    • DBD lost the darker maps and thick fog elements, and new maps are brighter/not scary.

All of which are then used as a justification to say "therefore we should add this licence/IP to the game".

Now not all of these points are invalid, some of them do have merit... but just because something hasn't been great in the past for the horror theme isn't really an excuse to throw it all in the trash and start considering adding things likes TMNT or Transformers because Shredder/Megatron are a bit evil and have killed before. A bad decision before doesn't necessitate/facilitate a repeat of said bad decision later.

Regarding DBD not being scary anymore, I challenge anyone to play any horror game ever made for 5000 hours and tell me they still find it scary.

People real comfortable saying let non-horror in until Hatsune Miku drops a pallet on your head.
