Hag Question - Is this a bug or just poor game design?
I was playing Hag, and as usual, the traps would trigger and force survivors to look at the phantasm, which typically results in an easy hit. However, I went up against a Cheryl who, every single time I teleported, was not only not facing the trap but was already turned in the complete opposite direction, well out of range of any attack. She managed to do this flawlessly with every trap. On top of that, she was deliberately triggering traps just to break them, which left me effectively powerless for most of the match.
Is this something that’s actually simple to do? Because if so, it feels like it completely breaks Hag’s power. Is there any legitimate counterplay from the Hag’s perspective? How could I have stopped or punished this kind of play? If there’s no real answer to this, I’m honestly thinking of shelving Hag until there’s an update to address it.
Edit: After doing some research, it seems this has been a long-standing oversight—or outright bug—that has gone unaddressed since Hag was first introduced 8 years and 7 months ago. I came across several YouTube videos where players were complaining about this exact issue. Honestly, it’s really disappointing to see that it still hasn’t been fixed.

Idk why she didn't look at the trap (guess the time you're forced to look at it is shorter than it feels, and she instantly turned around again?), but triggering traps without being in range for a hit is pretty easy in general if you know of the existance of them. You just have to run a pixel into range to trigger it and instantly run away from it, hag will simply swing into nothing then - I'm no hag main and I don't really play her, but I believe you can't do much except ignoring the trigger or teleport to it and replace it.

Unfortunately this is a strategy born of an oversight in Hags trap design that players who know about it can exploit to negate her traps.
The trap pulls your camera to face the Hag trap. The point of this is to ensure the player sees the trap jump scare and disorient the Survivor... and this works well at achieving those goals.
Sadly, you can completely circumvent this by turning your camera to the front of your survivor and holding back to run towards the screen and away from the direction your facing. When the Hag trap yoinks your camera to face the trap, you're already holding back to run the opposite way, so you automatically run away from the trap.
I have been pondering creating a Hag thread to update her, and this was a mechanic I wanted to address. I don't wanna get rid of the camera yoink, because it is pretty cool as a horror mechanic... but I would address this problem by capping the amount the camera can turn to ~30-45 degrees.
This makes it no different for the way most players interact with traps, but for players using this strat above, it is far more difficult to effectively turn away, as unless you're very careful, you're not sure which way you're gonna turn, and are just as likely to run into a wall, or not turn enough to avoid the hit.

Like others said its really easy if you already look at the trap while triggering it. So if the player wants to trigger the trap, he can easily do that.
And they are safe if they only trigger it at the edge. On an accidental trigger you can immediately swing for the hit, but in this case you will just miss.
There are addons which reduce the trigger range, they could work. But bc i didnt play hag much after the changes, i never tried them.
What always works is a distance-trap. For those you dont swing immediately, but the placement guarantees that you can catch up until they reach safety. But its obviously still problematic for your other traps and a smart survivor could wipe the distance-traps or have sprintboost.
So to summarize: its intented and a team that can do it, will make you suffer. You will slowly, but surely lose those matches. You can take PWYF to have a bit of Chase-hag in your mix, maybe they arent prepared for that. B

Ah, yes. The "S Tech".
Pretty annoying thing.
I run Rusty Shackles a lot, which removes this strategy, but there should be a bit of basekit help.

Apparently experienced players can't have nice things

When you say “base kit help,” could you elaborate? From everything I’ve read, this bug exploit is actually very simple to pull off and doesn’t require any real skill.
Here’s how it works:
- Run while facing your camera backward. Your character should be moving away from the direction your camera is pointed.
- Trigger the trap.
- When the trap goes off, you’ll automatically be facing away from it while still moving at full speed, which guarantees you’ll be well out of the Hag’s hit range.
I don’t think relying on a rare add-on to compensate for this bug exploit is an appropriate solution.
Unfortunately, this isn’t something limited to experienced players. Anyone can do it with virtually no skill required. All it takes is knowing that it exists and performing the three very simple steps I outlined above.
At this point, I think the best course of action is simply to stop playing the Hag until this is addressed. Which, realistically, means I’ll probably never play her again. Considering this issue has gone ignored for over eight years, the chances of it being fixed anytime soon seem extremely slim.

I hate the "Force you to look at the trap" mechanic, but what I hate even more is when you can circumvent mechanics by doing dumb things like walking backwards.
I have to side with Hag on this one. :(

True there counter to hag when you trigger trap but get that pixel away so it doesnt matter if she instantly teleports back survivor will be already out of range, this isnt that easy because not everyone who plays survivor everyday is able to get hag in one week she is in top 3 least played characters with artist and twins.

I do have to ask man... do you genuinely consider having a method of completely neutralising a killers powers with literally no effort or skill from yourself a "nice thing"?
Because not gonna lie... rendering a killer nearly completely helpless sounds boring beyond belief to me... like mobile phone auto battler level boring... if a Killer has no fangs, how is it any entertainment whatsoever to beat them?

You can counter Trapper's traps by walking and stopping until you see the trap's prompt, its basically the same thing

I see what you’re saying, but I don’t think this is a fair comparison.
With Trapper, avoiding traps takes time, awareness, and caution. Survivors have to slow down, carefully look for traps, and there’s always a risk if they miss one. It’s an intentional part of the gameplay, and it slows down their actions.
With this Hag issue, survivors don’t have to slow down, check for traps, or take any real risk. They can trigger and remove traps at full sprint speed while facing away, with no way for the Hag to punish them, even if she teleports immediately. It requires almost no mechanical skill or decision-making once they know the trick, and it essentially disables her power.
The key difference is that Trapper’s counterplay has meaningful risk and impact on survivor efficiency, this does not. That’s why it feels like an exploit, not balanced gameplay.

I would solve it by giving Hag a sizable boost to her movement speed for a few seconds after she teleports to a triggered trap.
This way, you can get a hit sooner, punishing this way of counterplay.

I would too considering her traps are her only power, withoput them she is just 110% speed killer which its terrible for chase but for some reason devs think she can have guarantee hit after fast teleport so they still keep her slowdown after teleporting.

Obviously I meant not hard to do. Learning that first without youtube or something is probably harder because of the little amount of them, that's true xD

Trappers traps are still biggest trap in this game the gamble you have with them they feel like playing russian rulette with 3 bullets in the chamber and even the good placed ones arent guarantee to work. Hag on other hand if team is aware where are her traps can trigger them when she is tunneling or she is carrying survivor to hook and she will lose lot of time too but thats still much faster to place them back than trapper and lot easier.
