What is the Proper Way to Deal with SWF Voice Coms?
I enjoy DBD, at times. But, the single biggest thing that drives me away from it is SWF Voice Com Squads. So, to be honest, I go in spurts with DBD. I'll go for months without playing it. Come back to if for like a steady week, only to get frustrated to the point of just walking away from it for months at a time again.
At this point, I frankly don't even talk in end game chat anymore when I play as Killer. Nothing good ever came from it. I would get so worked up over this issue that it would devolve into a flame war. The Survivors would say horrible things to me, unpunished. But, if I delivered back to them what they dished out, I would be punished. So, I learned it's best just to keep my mouth shut.
I find myself playing Survivor most of the time, because it's the only place I don't have to deal with this. But, while fun for a while, I personally find I get bored quickly because I find Survivor very easy to play. I get out alive about 3 out of 4 games. I don't do the other things to rank up, I just focus on popping gens and getting out alive. And, to that point, it's very easy to do. Just keep popping gens while everyone else is either on the hook or saving people on the hook. Most of the other people who join are SWF anyway and they got each other's backs. So, I don't need to get involved with that mess. Just keep popping gens, and go for the gate.
I play Solo Join Survivor. So much so, that even when I tried playing with people I added to my friends list I would have to tell them that I don't communicate in matches because I feel it's unfair. One guy, who seemed very nice, would not stop texting me asking me for info after I died in the match. To such a point I actually unfriended and blocked him over it.
I think this mentality of mine comes from two points. One, I know what it's like to play Killer and be on the other end of that and how unfair it personally feels to me. Second, I come from a background of largely fighting games like Street Fighter and Moral Kombat. So, fairness (as in everyone chooses from the same characters and have the same chances based on their personal skill) means a lot to me and is a gaming tenant.
The problem DBD Devs face is that DBD is an asymmetric game. These are notoriously difficult to balance for and usually fall apart over balance issues. I think Star Craft is about the only asymmetric game most critics agree on and really consider to be the gold standard of balance for this type of game design. If I'm going to be honest, I feel the DBD Devs live in a bubble and continue to balance the game around the idea of solo joins. Why else would they keep creating aura perks that are useless to SWF Voice Com Squads who already get those advantages from the voice coms?
I talk about this issue a lot because it's the very reason I don't spend as much time in DBD as I'd like to. The graphics are amazing. The game play can be fun, intense, and competitive. But, in the end, this sense of unfairness ultimately overrides the joy I sometimes do get from the game. I can tell when it's happening too. We all can. It's not difficult to figure out. Especially if you play Freddy. You put three people to sleep, watch them all run in different directions. Then, they all meet up with the one awake person 'all of a sudden; what luck? right?' and are all woken back up instantly. It puts the coordination in events like synchronized swimming to shame. It's frustrating and sad to watch, but funny in an ironic way.
The main reason Freddy is such a bad Killer in DBD is that he's designed with the philosophy that voice chat doesn't exist. It's the same reason useless perks like knock out exist. Freddy depends entirely on awake Surviviors finding sleeping ones being a difficult thing to do. The Devs didn't consider that SWF will find each other in about 2 seconds. This renders Freddy's power almost entirely useless; which is why he's considered the worst Killer in the game.
When facing off against Solo joins, I usually average about 2 to 3 kills a game when matched with roughly equally ranked Survivors. When set to that same scenario with SWF I am lucky to get 1 kill. And that's only if I spitefully face camp someone and the three of the remaining Survivors can't get that person free to spite ganging up on me with flash lights.
It's also key to note that this issue is linked to rank. Rank 20-14 Surviors are mostly solo joins or very bad SWF Squads. Easy. Once you hit Rank 15 and above as Killer; prepare to face off against almost nothing but SWF Com Squads. That's almost all the game is at that point.
Unless this is ever balanced for, what do I do to combat this? Everyone says, 'punish the altruism of SWF wanting to save each other.' To that I say, yes and no. On lower ranks, this does work. But, as I ranked higher as a Killer, I saw for myself that this doesn't work anymore. Better coordinated SWF groups make a pact ahead of time to agree to cut their losses and take one for the team. They will let themselves die on purpose to waste my time for camping them and everyone else lets them die to pop gens.
To that I get told, 'don't camp.' Well, easily said. Why didn't I think of that? But, what option do I really have left to me? When I walk away to find other Survivors the one on the hook tells them that I walked away from the hook and someone gets that person off the hook in about 3 to 5 seconds after my leaving the hook. So, I can face camp the squad member out of spite and get 1 kill. Or, I can try to find other Survivors and end up with 0 kills. Or, I can play against solo joins ranked the same as me and end up with 2 to 3 kills. So, yeah, SWF makes all the difference in the world.
Does anyone playing Killer out there know any actualy useful strategies for combating SWF? It changes everything about how I go about playing as Killer and I simply don't know how to deal with it.

They tend to save quickly so trades are possible, and as a rule always try to face a wall when picking someone up. Change targets quickly and defend generators that are out in the open. As you break pallets near those gens you are more likely to catch them out of position. Try to enjoy yourself and have fun.

Either slugg or play Billy Nurse with a red Mori and some broken add-ons and perks, that's what I do.
There this new perk called Infectious Fright that works pretty good on a slugg build, it kinda works like BBQ

Play Nurse.

Give killers an option to report them during the match. If we think the survivors are doing too well, we can report them for using 3rd party software. We're victims here, our reports should lead to bans without question.

Play leatherface with nurse’s and deerstalker.
You can also kill them.

Bubba's Basement + Insidious then camp nearby the basement.

Lobby dodge, facecamp as LF or Shape, try to get then to the basement. Use Franklin's demise.

theres nothing to deal with swf unless the solo players can be leveled to a similar advantaged experience or did you forget that most of killer matches aren't swat wannabes 4 player teams and if you get a swf match most of the times the only benefits of it are: theres a totem near the shack or watch out its a wraith

You deal with them with an ebony or at least, an ivory mori. Your strongest killer, your strongest add-ons. Maybe even NOED.
A lot of people will defend the idea that most squads aren't commandos, but the truth is, only relaying information like "killer's on me", "watch out, he has Spirit fury", is more than enough to shift balance.
That's why you bring your ivory and take out the first person as quickly as possible. 1 vs 3 on comms is fair enough.

Nurse or Leatherface, the choice is yours.

what i do, when i find out it is the mic mavens, is i'll park in a corner and wait for them to leave. it's pretty obvious who they are. why fight a futile battle? they usually won't leave though, so i am forced to quit. yeah...i play survivor mostly anymore.

Break into their houses when they're not home, and break their headsets. This is the only real way to deal with them.

I actually did try to report them for that very reason. As far as I can tell, nobody cares to ban them for it. Believe me, I tried... a lot.
I did learn some from talking to people about this. First, there are aura reading perks so if I can tell they're using these after the match I can't just assume SWF. But, honestly almost everyone (back when I played a lot anyway) runs self heal, decisive strike, and the usual perks. Because, well, there is no need to run aura reading perks when they're playing SWF.
I started the game about a year ago with Freddy and he's the easiest Killer to tell with. When you have half or more of the squad asleep it's really easy to see how well they coordinate. Maneuvers that are just not possible without coordination. Mannuvers solo joiners never make.
Back when I did debate them on the issues of cheating and fairness in end game chat, it was sadly comical how they would lie and try to pretend they were not using voice chat. I mean, hello, I can see you when you're sleeping and you all run like you're commandos. Every action is coordinated and premeditated. One runs interference, the other unhooks. If most of the team is asleep, all disperse and regroup on the other side of the map to wake up. You can't see other sleeping Survivors. So... if they're not running aura reading perks I'd like to hear them explain running out in three different directions and somehow all finding the awake Survivor at the same time on the other side of the map.
About half would even admit to it in chat, when grilled hard enough, but say it's "not cheating." Reporting them, even after they admitted to using third party software for cheating, never seemed to matter.
It's frustrating. There is no real sense of honor or integrity from the Survivors in this game. They enjoy empty victories gained from cheating. And the Devs honestly don't seem to really care at all. This has been the same problem for more than a year and nothing has been done. From what I heard from people on the Steam Forums; the Survivors got tired of lobby dodging to get into the same lobby as their friends; so they review bombed the game until the Devs caved and gave them what they wanted. I hope it's balanced for some day. But, I don't hold my breathe for it. I assume the Devs will continue to allow this because they're financially afraid to balance for it. They might offend the Survivors and that might hurt the bottom line with a drop in active players; as well as players not buying the DLC/customes anymore and that can't be allowed to happen. So, this cheating is allowed to happen because the Surviviors hold the game financially hostage and the Devs are too afraid to offend the money and actually balance the game. I get salty over this to the point where I do have to leave the game for months at a time because of how broken it is on a fundamental level.
I come back every new and then for about a week to give it another chance. But, it doesn't take longer than a week to realize why I left the game for the last six months to dawn on me again.
Sense there is no casual mode; everything is ranked. This is bad because the higher I rank, the worse this game becomes. I'd rather stay low rank and have matches that are actually fun. Rather than rank up and have a botched game. I will sometimes play crap Killers to de-rank on purpose so that I can have a few fun games before ranking up again naturally. But, eventually that becomes too much work and Survivor gets too boring to play for how easy it is and I just leave for months at a time again.
Now, granted, Survivor is not east if you care about your rank and actually try to get all he emblems. But, if all you want to do is pop gens and get out; I'm actually really good at it. Gen popping is just paying attention and good reaction time. As a fighting game player, I hardly ever miss a check and these "skill checks" are trivial to me. I've sometimes even powered through ruin gens with a toolbox and getting great skill checks enough times. Skill checks don't check much "skill." The rest is just learning the psychology to manuver around the SWF players and use their altruism as an advantage. I pop about 2 to 3 gens a match so they save me because they know I'm often the only player popping gens. They're wasting time making hook rescues, rather than popping gens. I'll sit next to someone on a hook and just keep working on the gen. The person on the hook is likely a noob and will just get re-hooked in 2 seconds anyway if I save him. It alerts the Killer when I take him down. I'm better of just letting him die to save myself. If I finish the gen, I'll swing by to get him. But, not before. People play this game way too team oriented. Survivor is easy if you look out for #1 and let the rest rot. I guess their wasting time saving noobs is a bit useful, it keeps the Killer busy while I just keep gen rushing. Unless you play for rank, I honestly don't see why so many people say it's hard to play Survivor. It's really easy and boring to me. I get out about 3 out of 4 matches. Most of the others don't... they died for me to live. I catch a lot of flack in end game chat. But, hey, blood points! And I Survived; so that's what matters really.

This here. If you really want to compete against the best swf teams your only chance is to play nurse.

Nah man, they'll just get another head set. You have to EMP their houses. That way you won't see them again for a little while at least.
