Bringing back old deep rifts would be a bad idea
Seems like BHVR is considering bringing back old deep rift cosmetics because in the reddit AMA they say they don’t currently have plans to bring them back but they’re apparently talking about it. I personally feel like that would be disheartening to the playerbase because BHVR has always mentioned deep rifts were only gonna be available to players that completed the rift.
To think that these could return to the future would be disappointing because that would be BHVR going back on their word on exclusivity and it makes me wonder if they could face legal trouble for bringing cosmetics back that were advertised as exclusive.

I agree.
It's only recolors anyway, and it's the same as if they gave the legacy cosmetics to everyone.

Exactly!

But why? A few years ago I didn't have time to unlock Mikaela's clothes from the Ghosftaces rift, I had a blue torso left there (if you remember, at that time, Rift fragments were given less from archives), so it wouldn't hurt to return it to the store, I would have bought the rest of the parts for her

I actually agree. I don't have all the Deep Rift outfits (missed two lots of them) yet I've survived just fine without them and will continue to do so. They were rewards for the folks putting the hours in.
I don't believe legality has anything to do with it though lol no one is suing over game cosmetics

True it's just cosmetics and people will bought it (me included already for that Mikas skin) so more money for BHVR :)

There have been more instances of them walking back on earlier decisions, regarding availability of cosmetics. In a previous AMA some time / years ago, it was said that any Rift cosmetic below Very Rare rarity would not be made available again. And yet, we have had plenty of Rare and below cosmetics added to the store or made available through weekly bundles. An example of the former is Claudette's "Montreal Chill" cosmetic, which was a Rift cosmetic of Rare quality, and got permanently added to store. This meant a lot to me personally, as a Claudette main. I didn't yet play DBD at the time this Rift was live, so I missed out on it originally.
And let's have a look at the Amazon Prime drops. These were 'exclusive' to Amazon subscribers, but various drops from those campaigns have since found their way into the store again. Not all of them. But it was said in another AMA that the plan is to have these made available at some point, though without any ETA. I can only hope and pray that my fellow Artist mains who missed out on her Amazon Prime cosmetics can one day obtain these.
Ultimately, the devs decide on what is considered 'exclusive' and whether or not said items become available to all in the long run. It's their call, nothing we can do about it.
Those who were able to get those items early have been able to enjoy them ever since. What's the issue with other people now being able to get their hands on them? Let others share in the joy! I'm willing to bet that most owners of these "exclusive" cosmetics actually haven't used or equipped any of them for years, essentially allowing them to gather proverbial dust in their inventories. But now suddenly they get upset at the idea of others getting their grubby hands on something "they're not supposed to have". That's a nonsense attitude imo.5 -
I just think it's tad bit hypocritical to keep deep rift fomo all while rejecting adding proper rewards for endgame progression (them reluctantly revealing theyre working on badges as p100 rewards because "fomo bad so we dont want to give anything of value)

- I agree. I don't appreciate Fortnite's policy at all, where some cosmetics are ABSURDLY exclusive, and on the contrary, I really appreciate DBD for making practically everything available to everyone. BUT, at least the Deep Reef skins (which are nothing more than recolors) should be truly exclusive and never go to the shop.

Nah, release them. Reduce time based fomo. I have almost every single every single rift cosmetic and seeing more people use stuff they may have missed for whatever reason is fine by me. The fact that this topic exists just makes me sad. Why do you care so much about gate keeping cosmetics? Don’t you have other more pressing things to worry about in life?
5 -
Nonsense. Those cosmetics were exclusive until they aren't. You still experienced their exclusivity, but that is the past. You want people to care that you're "disheartened" just because other players have access to something that you do and you don't like the idea of that. Boo hoo hoo. Playing the victim.
5 -
I wouldn't mind if deep rift skins were added to the store, tbh. I am not a fan of exclusive cosmetics.
7 -
If deep rifts get added I hope they charge 20 buck per rift package being added.
-7 -
They were advertised as exclusive, and personally Id like to keep it that way.

I think it's important to be reliable, and if they said something they should honor it. At the same time however, cosmetics are a part of player expression. In a game as predictable and often times two-dimensional as DBD, that's important. I think the one year (maybe two year) exclusive on cosmetics is good enough for the Deep Rift.
You have to think too, what would happen if your account were ever compromised? It's not exactly an unheard of thing for someone to lose all of their content on their account due to a glitch, only to be told that none of it was logged and they're SOL. If you still wanted to play after that, not only do you have to track all of your stuff down again, you also have a chunk of content that you can never have back.
Personally I'm glad they've been shying away from the exclusivity model, even with the things that I have. It was cool being special when the ST license was gone and being able to be more than base Steve and bloody Steve, but I was glad when everyone had access to all of it again. Ultimately I want everyone to be able to play with the same toys and have fun.

The "exclusivity" is getting it for free and earlier than others. There is no reason to keep rift cosmetics (deep rift or otherwise) unavailable forever instead of regularly releasing them. It doesn't have to be immediately when a rift ends, but having a constant release schedule would be good. Seeing someone with an outfit in game, then going to the store to buy it only to find it's not there is a terrible feeling and leads to less survivor diversity if highly sought after cosmetics are rift exclusive.

I really, REALLY hope that the P100 rewards will not be only limited to P100, but also other levels like 75, 50, 25…
And that it won't be just badges.
1 -
Im going to assume its just badges or charms considering they can most likely get approval of those much easier with licenses compared to a full cosmetic outfit
1 -
from what we know its gonna be badges that have multiple versions for varios prestige levels eventually scaling up to p100
1 -
nah, I think timed battlepasses are stupid to begin with. y'all exclusive collectors are strange beings that should be collecting stuff IRL instead. release the deeps.
3 -
They will probably do it.
As they did with the rift packs - but of course they only sell it in expensive packs. You can not just buy the piece that you miss.
I was very disappointed with these first rift packs not sold seperately.
1 -
It sounds like they are badges but they get more frames (idk what they mean by "frames") as you go up. Therefore, lower prestige should have a banner, just with less frames.
4 -
I really don’t understand why they only sold the first 4 tomes in a bundle and not other older ones???
1 -
Hmm…
Well, I hope that they chose to not tell us about everything or are preparing a bit more.
'Cause personally, I have enough badges for every occasion, so a bunch more doesn't exactly excite me.
Still, better than nothing, and people who have P100 mains will be very happy.
edit: Yeah, they should give us banners as well.

It's because the tome bundles were completely out of control.
BHVR refused to add certain cosmetics to the shop, and then locked them behind massively expensive bundles. This means that when someone is literally only wanting one outfit in the entire tome, they still need to pay for the ENTIRE bundle, just to get the one outfit they want.
1 -
I mean it's just a cosmetic so I don't see why it really matters tbh.
1 -
I think there should simply be a new way to earn these cosmetics that's difficult.
The Deep Rifts are time limited rewards you got for grinding out the game consistently to get them before they'd leave.
Legacy were special recolors given out to people who had invested a ton of time into the old system and leveling after it transitioned to a much faster paced and generous economy.
They aren't the same imo because Legacy was a one time only reward and Deep Rifts are consistently releasing more and more. As someone who owns many deep rifts, I don't have any issues with people snagging them later, especially since unlike legacy, Deep Rifts can be earned by buying the levels your missing before the rift ends, which kinda ruins the idea of "i EARNED blue Dracula", y'know?
1 -
I don't think its too stinky; it's relatively fair as the base version is available on the shop.
I'm happy the Jeff moth coat is no longer amazon exclusive

But having more choice is really nice, and it stops FOMO in games, at least long term FOMO. Which I think is always Unhealthy. Time limited is fine.
I never like having to tell my friends "You can't get this anymore" when they like my cosmetic, it sucks.5 -
There's no legal consequence for them bring those cosmetics back. Also BHVR has stated the opposite, they don't want exclusivity to cosmetic. Anything after the store was introduced consider to not be exclusive forever.
5 -
100% agree! some thinks should stay exclusive, like how it was supposed to be.
-2 -
eho cares? if you ahve it already, why blocking other people from having them?
4 -
I personally don't agree as I reaaaallly want that lara skin, but I guess sure you may be right

Happened to me with this one Jeff Skin My friend really wanted got so bad they started playing on my account just to use it really hope they bring that back eventually

if it's the moth one it's in the store for shards now

I really hope they don't do it the way they did with that one rift bundle a while back. I was NOT willing to spend what they were asking for just for David's London Dawn jacket. It's like those chapter bundles but on steroids.

I’m happy enough for other people to get access to the Deep Rift skins I earned to regular way.
It’s not like we did anything special to earn them, either. We just paid money and played a lot. Not even necessarily well.
It’s incredibly petty and selfish to deny other people these particular outfits, in my opinion.
It’s artificial exclusivity, which is just a manipulation tactic to get you to pay money. Minimising that will always be a win in my book.

I did a lot of thinking since making this post and reading the replies, and I’ll be honest my mind has changed. At the end of the day these are only cosmetics and I’m fine with them coming back again for players that missed out of them. It was selfish of me to want cosmetics to be locked away forever when they aren’t available anymore and I hope BHVR brings them back in the future.

The Deep Rift system was already fine. people who buy the Rift get access to the cosmetics early, but if they grind some more they get their own special little version. People who didn't buy the rift can get the same outfit later from the store. Why do they want the Deep Rift version? It's just a recolor, and some would say it looks worse than the original in most cases. It's purpose is to be a flex that showed you played for a long time, but the original outfit is always available for people who just like the vibe.
Call me selfish or greedy or fun-hating or whatever. If you wanted the funny blue recolor, maybe you should have bought the rift?
0 -
the regular coming back, but deep rift being a flex is perfectly fair. if things aren't meant to be exclusive, they should never be claimed as such. it'd be fine to advertise something as "grind now or pay later". saying it's exclusive then selling it later just erodes trust.
where is the line drawn though? do we have to hand out legacy outfits because people missed out?

Im waiting for the Wraith Lara skin

I feel like they should in some fashion.
People who were not playing then, or missed the rift, couldnt afford the rift back then etc should have access to some of the content.
Afterall, most of the Deep Rift collection skins are just recolours of a skin anyways.
I understand the notion of gatekeeping skins as some badge of pride, but lets be real.
If a skin is your badge of honour rather then your rank, prestige or actual skill, then perhaps you should reassess what you derive a sense of pride and accomplishment from.
As it stands, anyone who purchases the Rift Pass and has time to grind can max it 100 with little effort and there is no skill involved.
So maybe lets not gatekeep Rift Passes Deep Rift skins as if they are some FOMO high tier, unqiue skin that was earned by accomplishing some very high difficulty challenge.
I would gladly pay a lttle more for some of the Deep Rift skins that I misssed, such as Megs Freshman in Waiting (Deep Rift) that makes her alt-gothy.0
