Fog Vial - Survivor Opinion
Honestly? I love it so far. While I ultimately couldn't save the Meg (the Houndmaster was tunneling) I was able to give her more time than she normally would have, since I managed to help her lose the Houndmaster twice.
Is it a perfect tool? No, but it does help. So ultimately, I say it's a win for BHVR.

Its pretty busted and honestly really annoying to have to play against. It was nerfed and somehow its still not balanced

I found it very useless, but it could have been user error too. Either way, the killer was easily able to track me through the smoke.

people are already easily able to track survivors in the radius, with time they will get weaker and weaker. wont ever see myself using much. unless from a chest?

I love it with Quick and Quiet, Lightweight and Urban Evasion.

The base Fog Vial was actually buffed from the PTB. It now makes survivors completely silent and the fog is denser. The only thing that was "nerfed" is the Iridescent addon.

It is better than nothing for steamrolls. Not strong enough to truly counter it but it's a distraction.

I've yet to play as the Killer against the Fog Vial, so I can't say I have an opinion on it, but while it allowed the Meg to get away when I used it, the Houndmaster still found her in the end. Maybe it's an accessibility issue? I'm not sure, all I know is this is a necessary item to help combat tunneling - though that didn't really help the Meg that much, cause that Houndmaster was determined, let me tell you.

Haven't tried it on survivor, but I've been playing killer for the last couple hours and it's honestly at worst an inconvenience. I was expecting something horrible seeing people call it "busted" but it's not that bad. Plus my killer queue times are much much quicker, if that's because survivors have a new toy then I'll take it.

As killer, I can confirm it's good as distraction tool, but nothing more than that. I managed to kill every Fog user so far. Yes, it helps, but if player picks Fog… Okay he won himself few more seconds, but on most maps it's not difficult to follow survivor as fog is not that dense and there's are not many options where he could go. Most players are "hold W" survivors afterall or try to outsmart you with double back.
Maybe if activating few fogs same time is bit overtuned, but survivor doesn't see anything too, so it's okayish. It becomes game about who knows map better and moves through fog without hitting a wall.

You don't need sound so much if you see survivor. Fog only limits your view, but you still can see survivor. Perk like Crows works too. If survivor passes Crow, you see it, if you hit survivor with whatever you have, it also screams… Game hides only basic sounds, it doesn't shut the game completely.

T9 kills me. I'm trying to tell, Fog is maybe bit stronger against some killers, but it's not so broken as some claim. In comparison, I better face fog players than gen rush players

Well, seeing as it's a tool meant to combat tunneling, allowing the Killer to hear the Survivor defeats that purpose. Maybe a good balancing point would be making it to where the Survivors can't hear the Killer either, but apart from that, allowing the Killer to have an easy way to track the Survivors through it would make the item functionally useless.

You know, survivors always whine and complain about this power or that perk not having counterplay. Fog Vials have no counterplay. It's an infinite use item that is pretty much always available that just lets you win chases in dead zones for free.

It's an item that gives you a chance to get away during a chase - that's what is needed to combat tunneling. There's nothing you can do to really prevent someone from only focusing on one person. Sure, you could punish them, but BHVR has already stated they won't do that. Therefore, there needs to be a counter, and the Fog Vials fill that role.
As for counterplay, there are plenty of methods. Perks that make the Survivor's scream, certain aura perks, some add-ons, etc. The removal of the scratch marks and aura only last while you're in the fog. The right build, and simple awareness, can counter the Fog Vial. Plus, some Killers have built in powers that make keeping track of Survivors easier.

I'm waiting to get home to the lads and dabble in a tiny bit of WGLF MFT shenanigans...I'm just gonna have to make myself appealing and make the killer not be spooked by Conviction

I've seen a bunch of complaints but honestly I've seen them be hit-or-miss. A lot of the time the Fog Vials don't really sway the killer at all, but sometimes they can be very useful.
I think they've struck a good spot balance-wise. They're fun to use but it's not a "press button to end chase" tool like the Void Crystals were.
They're also VERY cool thematically, it's nice to have some fog back in the game for once.

I really like it. I got a lot of use out of it once I figured out a way to use it.
