It has been many years since Skull Merchant
It's unforgivable that they're taking their sweet ass time to change Skull Merchant. What's taking so long?

Originally yes, when Skull Merchant got her unnecessary and devastating nerfs shortly before last year's Halloween event, her rework was scheduled for the second half of 2025.
Earlier this year, they released two design previews for her which were, in the nicest of possible terms, awful. Because they literally erased her identity, and the feedback made it quite clear that said direction was unacceptable for SM players. Nothing happened until the recent Reddit AMA, where they said her rework has been moved to 2026:

They really need to give her some buffs to help her out until the rework.

No problem friend, glad to help :)

I’m assuming because this is a staffing issue? Maybe they need more bandwidth to work with. More crew members. That way stuff can get done faster with more help.

It's become very clear they have no idea what they are doing.
"trap playstyle" is the complete antithesis of "removing passive lethality." What do they think Trapper would be like if his traps just revealed people briefly, but didn't harm or stop them?
I pretty much guarantee they are going to turn her into an M2 projectile killer because god forbid they be a bit creative and different instead of just recycling the same 2 play styles constantly.

Yeah I do NOT want to see her as a dash/projectile
Buddy drone can help in other ways, but not that. I really hope they take this part seriously because people will be MASSIVELY disappointed if it is.

Yes, I've found this particular response to be extremely concerning, dear friend.
Trap killers have passive lethality, that is the point of a trap killer. The active part of their playstyle is setting up and creating your web, and this web of traps they create passively acquires results. This is true for Trapper and Hag. Trapper doesn't manually control his traps to go around the map chomping survivors, and Hag doesn't move her phantasms until a teleport is available. These killers have passive gains, that is how it should work.
Turning Skull Merchant into a projectile killer is unacceptable, and it will most certainly backfire. Because we who play SM don't want a projectile, or dash, or ranged M2 killer. If we did, we wouldn't have picked Skull Merchant in the first place. We would have picked Unknown, or Springtrap perhaps. Certainly not Skull Merchant.
I hope the next design preview doesn't take too long, because the situation is not looking good right now and we need more communication.

Poor survivors main. (ᶦ'ᵐ ʲᵒᵏᶦⁿᵍ, ᶦ ᵈᵒⁿ'ᵗ ᶠᵉᵉˡ ᵇᵃᵈ ᵃᵇᵒᵘᵗ ᵗʰᵉ ˢᵘʳᵛᶦᵛᵒʳˢ ᵐᵃᶦⁿ)

While thats true I think even if they keep her as she is (reffering to a trap killer) she will always be hated and not for the reason most skull merchant enthusiasts think.
Its not people being crybabies (which yes there are a lot of those) but is that passive lethality feels horrible to play against. Because it takes agency away from the survivor in chase, which is the most boring stuff a killer can do. See for example obnoxious m2s, like ghoul or blight, you can still make them miss, use a loop against them, actively outplay them in chase, feels good to do that, there is a rush.
Now take trap killers, either you get time when you are away from chase to hold m1 so that you can have a 10 second chase, because the killer will just see the trap was disabled and drop the chase or do gens and next time you are in chase you just go down because 3 minutes ago the killer pressed m2 at that loop.
Its boring to play against as survivor, and while yes some people enjoy this type of killer, for better or for worse it is such a niche part of the community I seriously don't think its a big priority for bhvr.
Dont get me wrong they SHOULD fix her, but after the whole experience that has been skull merchants existance, and the incredibly good reception most dash/proyectile killers have had, I am almost sure bhvr will just rework sm and never make a trap killer again, which most of the players are ok with, it does suck as it limits the types of killer we have, however having more killers which no one likes to play against is something I doubt bhvr wants.

As you are probably our biggest Skull Merchant fan I wonder what you think of making her a hybrid killer? She still sets up drones (hopefully with a useful effect) and has one buddy drone that she can use for a projectile attack. I'm by no means knowledgeable about SM so I'm not sure if that would be a terrible idea or be a good compromise. Keeping some of what SM enjoyers like while making her stronger and more accessible to more players.

Biggest Skull Merchant fan? Hahahaha, I'm flattered, my friend, but I cannot possibly claim this title. There are many Forum members who deserve it way more than I do.
As for your question, my friend, I would not support the idea of her becoming a hybrid killer. I strongly believe it is unacceptable for Skull Merchant to receive a dash / projectile / ranged M2 attack, and I would immediately stop playing her if she received any of those.

You've been the one I've seen champion SM the most.
