Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

The Abandoned Haste Changes and Clown Buffs

For those who don't remember, there was a PTB where haste effects were reworked so that individual ones were more powerful but they were not able to be stacked. They didn't make it through to live because there was an outcry about the loss of gimmick haste synergy builds on both sides. However, some people felt that while it might have been less fun immediately, it would be healthier for the game long-term, as it would only take a minor change to a Power or perk, or for a new one to be introduced, for certain combos to become insufferably annoying or downright broken. We'd already experienced something similar with the MFT meta driving Killers insane.

And here we are, with the changes that were meant to make Clown more user-friendly and less reliant on his slow instead making him a speed-hacker with the right builds. These changes, and their unexpected consequences, are exactly why the haste rework should have gone through despite the protests at the time. They would have acted as a security net to reduce the chances of egregious scenarios where the fundamental mechanics of the game start to buckle under pressure.

If the devs are going to make a killer cracked from a buff, they would have done it regardless of if the haste changes were present or not. This just seems like a "does BHVR even play their own game" moment.

Also just think how many QAs this game has, all the names popping up on loading screen during previous event and how these awful bugs and changes always just seem to slip through their department without anyone noticing or speaking up? Makes one wonder who is really making all these decisions at BHVR

So what you mean is that they need to bring back Clown's previous iteration? I wholeheartedly agree.

    • I'm sure BHVR has people on its team who test changes to the killers, but I'm equally sure that there isn't a group of people on its team who play survivor against the newly modified killers. The real testers are the players in the PTB and then in the live game. It's not possible that a survivor tester on the team said "sure, Twins is fine as it is," "Skull Merchant is perfect," or "Kaneki is totally right."

They may have a QA department but at this point, I think we would have to agree they are either incompetent or BHVR is screwing with us on purpose. Releasing these broken af killers, might be driving some clown sales and certainly encouraged more ghoul sales on release.

Everyone on both sides is telling them to put their pride aside and revert clown, if it ain't broke don't fix it, now you're just creating more problems. Maybe just keep the small reloading buff nothing else is good

Clown being too fast has nothing to do with the haste stacking. Clown was always able to stack haste, and he wasn't a problem back then.

I've played with him a bit to see how it is, with no added haste perks. Even without them, I've been able to steamroll attempts to loop. Hit yourself with a yellow and them with a pink and it's pretty difficult for someone to get to a pallet or window before you, let alone a whole tile. If they're out in the open they're screwed.

Even if these Haste changes had been introduced, I think current Clown would still be a problem, friend.

Haste builds for the Clown were already a thing before and were just as oppressive as now, believe it or not. The problem isn't the builds themselves, but how they are played. Planning how to use your yellow bottles is not the same as throwing them at your feet.

I myself was in favor of removing stacking (and not just for haste), but I argued that it should only be done with perks, so that the Clown, among others killers that have haste as part of their powers, could still take value from those perks.

The Clown didn't need any changes to make him user-friendly, because he was already easy to use. These changes are clearly motivated by someone who hates Hindered effect, wanting to replace it with Haste without having the slightest idea of how powerful it already was.

Yeah haste stacking was a thing entirely before. The only reason it's a craze now is because it's easier to active when good clowns could already do haste stacking builds effectively.

While I agree that the haste stacking changes were healthy and shouldn't have been abandoned, this version of Clown would've been a problem regardless.
