The Fog Vile Nerf: Perfect example why we shouldn't allow any mods on this game.
I understand the sound nerf of the Fog Vile. But the "It's too strong I can't see anything" only came from people sharing clips of their modded game with multiple filters since they are so bad that they need every help that doesn't ban them.

it also doesn’t help that it’s bugged to make it less or more foggy depending on what map you’re on. if they actually fixed that bug, we could’ve then decided if the fog vial opacity was too much or too little.

I agree fully. Though the item should have limited charges, its not fair to hide yourself for so long infinitely with only a minute cooldown on average.

Limited charges is fine, and perhaps lookingbinto the sound of survivors and killers within it, only because a couple of killers powers are completely removed from it in a way that it doesn't to others.
Opacity was never an issue, but the devs acted on the feedback of those who complained, which involves the modded community.
The devs need to be tougher on mods, if their game isn't supporting of mods. More visible progress in this area is needed.

Yeah, it is sad that they allow Filters. I remember people said they use Reshade to make the game brighter, then we got Gamma-Settings (and you can REALLY brighten up the game with those) and yet people still use Reshade.
And those who claim they do it to make the game look better… This is the same nonsense we had with Stretched Res. People who defended that also said they only used it because it looked better and the game clearly does not look better with Reshade either.
In general, the DBD-Community really has a desire to make the game look as bad as possible just for a small advantage.

It's not infinite. The max. time of a trial is restricted (not infinite), so the vial usage in a trial can never be infinite, even if there's no small number in the HUD or a charge bar (like with other items).
If you think fog vial usage is infinite, then you probably also believe that you can earn infinite money through compound interest.
Somehow I'm really not surprised to see the same talking point popping up again and again.

Brother the item literally has an endless number of uses, with a cooldown on using the item again. No ######### trials don't last forever. Point being you shouldn't be able to use the fog vial pretty much every single time you get chased or unhooked. Similarly with medkits and toolboxes, they need to be limited to be fair, because self healing after getting injured everytime so your teammates crank gens or doing every gen with toolbox repair speed isn't fair. Thats a no brainer

Even with garbage simple interest, technically as long as you keep investing your money over whatever time period, you're making effortless, infinite money. I see you're trying to relate this game machanic to irl, but thats a stupid and irrelevant example, seeing as you yourself are wrong about how investing works.

Because the amount of times it can be used per trial is a problem. Its a really strong effect that hides you through every aspect of the game's tracking machanics (scratch marks, blood, grunts and auras) other than killer instinct. Having that first off be usable as long as the match is still ongoing is not fair, but also when its used altruisticly, then its effect is pretty much always being used, since when one cloud ends, another person will just release theirs while the others are on cooldown, essentially creating not just infinite charges, but infinite fog. Thats not balanced, it needs to be like keys and maps and have limited charges.
This is really a no brainer, the item is obviously too useful. It wastes so much of the killer's time to try and pick up a chase after someone drops this stupid cloud down. That shouldn't be happening every single time you find that survivor, thats not fair. And if its going to be like that, it needs to only happen like 2-3 times per match (2-3 charges.)

The game can ABSOLUTELY look better with Reshade, its just when people think "Reshade" they think of the absolute extreme examples where the redstain/scratchmarks are overly saturated while everything else is drowned out.

This entire thread is invalid. It’s based around the false statement that fog vials are only “too strong” if people are using filters.
But fog vials have been proven to be bugged even with zero filters.

Console players can mess around with their TV settings so filters aren't as bad as you are making them out to be.

Some outdoor maps have a section of sky, where bright light happens. On the daytime maps, I’m assuming it’s supposed to be the sun, but this map also has a bright light in the sky for whatever reason.
The fog vials also get buggy on environmental items like fire barrels, because the light from the fire barrels makes the fog effect get super bright.

Gamma isn't a sufficient replacement for even basic reshade filters, gamma makes the game look incredibly dull.

the problem with fog vial balance is until they’re made equal on every map no balance can be made. On haddonfield they’re see through but on deaddawg they’re completely opaque. I don’t use filters so this whole blame it on filters and reshade argument is invalid when if you were to visit the bug section someone already screenshotted every map and the difference.

so by this logic, they need to Nerf half of the killer roster to nothing because they get advantages on certain maps/ their powers work better/differently on certain maps.

the fog its self is bugged right now. You can’t nerf or buff the vial to be balanced until it renders the same on every map. Just look at how the vial looks on dead dawg and haddonfield. If you nerf the vial again so its fair on deadawg it will be useless on haddonfield. If you buff it for haddonfield it will be even more opaque and impossible to see through on dead dawg.

What I am saying is that I don’t believe the fog itself was ever bugged. It’s the maps themselves. Because the very same thing can be said about the way that killer powers work differently or better on certain maps. The fog vials should’ve never been touched because now they are completely useless. It should have been handled no differently than killer powers. You just have to adapt to the fact that they work differently on some maps.
So unless they are going to overhaul every single map in the game, then no there is no nerfs that should’ve ever been done to fog vials opacity based on this.

the vials are not completely useless, on some maps they’re incredibly strong still. The fog is bugged. Greenvale square for instance sometimes loads with a thick dark fog you can’t see through and sometimes its normal. Maps share resources, all maps have fog. Something since orela’s update has broken it.

Trappers beartraps are impossible to see on some maps and very easy to spot on maps like coldwind and eyrie. I demand his traps be brightened to be easily visible on every map until all maps have the exact same lighting!

once again fog has been busted since orela came out. Sometimes fog is normal sometimes its absolutely busted. You can’t find the right balance until this issue is fixed.

Not to the same degree, and not as easily. I certainly wouldn't jack with my TVs settings just to play one game. You'd have to spend a lot of time screwing with your TV settings to get even a loose approximation of what you can do with ReShade.
People using filters to give themselves any kind of advantage over the stock game is tantamount to cheating, imo. Sure, some people do it just to make things look better, but many do it to certain elements stand out more, which is gaining an advantage.
DBD is a mess in a multitude of ways, but one thing you can't say is that it looks bad. People making it look worse and claiming the opposite are fooling no one.
The game is imbalanced as hell regardless so I don't lose any sleep over it, but I don't take the results of people using shaders and filters seriously.5 -

If you gave it charges then it defeats the purpose of the item. It's meant to aid in combating tunneling. Giving it limited uses would be the same as the other things that Survivors have that "combat toxic strategies" that only work once - it's not a solution if you can't use it all match. Decent Killers were already finding ways around and adapting to the Fog Vials, the fact it only had a cooldown wasn't a problem. The only people who see it as a problem, or complained about Fog Vials in general, either refused to adapt, or were actively cheating with mods.

i myself only use filters for eyrie and corn maps. I reduce the exposure/brightness because those maps cause my eyes to strain. I see some people where they over saturate and brighten everything up so much so it looks like we’re playing different games.

Honest question... Why would I want to blow out my OLED to max settings, or how can I even do that in Game Mode when most settings are disabled?
My PS5 has auto HDR on and the fog was never washed out white. I leave my settings as is because the game looks fine. I do have the gamma at max but again, it doesn't blow out whites or make the fog look washed out in some of the screenshots or videos I've seen.

Maybe the vials are just bugged in general and it has nothing to do with opacity. They still didn't need to decrease opacity to where half the time you can now see all the way through to the other side.
The vials opacity seems to be pulling in random values. Plus, filters can affect opacity too by causing the whites in the fog to be washed out.
It can be that they are bugged or both. Overall they definitely need to be looked into further than just changing the default opacity.

You point wasn't proven. The only way the Fog Vial is a viable option is if it has unlimited uses. You want to balance it? Make the recharge time take longer than a minute. It's intended to counter tunneling, which only works if it can be used all match. Not that it matters anymore anyways - you Killer mains cried to papa BHVR nerfed one of the only good things they've done for Survivors in years.

There are two times where you can be tunneled, which is after the two possible unhooks. Thus, you should only need two charges. No point in extending the time until the item can be used again, no ones lasting that long. If anything they should remove its cooldown to only be while the clouds already active, and give the item limited charges.
