Being Anonymous Should Hide Everyone's Name, Profiles and End Game Chat From Yourself
Simple fix to people using Anonymous mode as a safe guard to spread hate. If they turn it on, they can't see other people's names, profiles and can't send EGC messages.

turn off end game chat too

Or YOU could turn on anonymous mode?
-5 -
No, I like to show my hours and be open to conversation from friendly individuals. I'm not gonna do that because some people are indecent. Anonymous players should not be able to use their status as a cowl to see other people without them knowing. Thus, they just shouldn't be allowed to perform those social actions while their name and profile is hidden as well, its just not fair.

You are aware you can report anonymous players. If people would do that instead of complaining that a few anon players are toxic then you might see less toxicity in end game chat.

You have all of the tools available to you to deal with toxic players You could:
- Turn on anonymous mode so they can't get to your profile.
- Lock down your steam profile so randos can't comment on it
- Lock down your steam account so random people can't message you
- Lock down your steam account so random people can't friend you.
- Private your steam profile so people can't look at it
- Turn off the chat
- Report the person at the end of the game (yes, it also works in anonymous mode)
- Report people who comment on your steam profile and are toxic.
And you don't want to use them. You only have yourself to blame.

I feel that anonymous mode should just be on for everyone by default and you have to opt out. However as an anonymous mode user I agree to some degree - I have no interest in engaging with most players I meet so I keep anon mode on. There's a lot of insane people that are never held accountable by BHVR on this platform and it's not worth the trouble. Issue is I'm pretty sure cheaters for example don't get affected by anonymous mode or can turn it off on their end so if you're dealing with someone like that it don't even matter.
I don't know if I'd agree with chat getting disabled for anon mode users even if I don't use it. Mostly because you can still report anon mode users (I know it rarely matters) and there's still friendly conversation that can be had.
Realistically BHVR needs to overhaul a lot of disciplinary systems creating a system for both chat privilege's and queue privilege's. If chat had a separate punishment system from actually playing BHVR could actually be more heavy handed with punishment for bad behavior in chat. If you abuse chat you don't need it to play so no one could really argue if you somehow get banned from chat that you didn't deserve it since it doesn't affect game.
Also all of you claiming we have the tools to deal with bad behavior. It's not mine or anyone else's job to babysit unstable manchildren who feel they need the last word and will open up your profiles to harass you. BHVR should actually do more by overhauling their report system but instead just distract you by signal boosting content creators who distract you from the issues instead of actually addressing their communities ######### behavior. I'm tired of everyone going after players who want this game to be better for everyone. We need to pressure BHVR to actually improve their system to properly protect players and punish bad actors.

Thats exactly why i made this post. Not all the time anon player behavior is directly against BHVR's beliefs, im just not interested in getting bmed or smth like that over a match. If you wanna do that, you can do it to my face (public profile, name visible,) not behind anon mode
3 -
Bming isn't banable, its just annoying and id wanna see it unless whoever is saying it is visible to me. Its only fair.

I don't see a problem if the behavior isn't bannable. This would be no different than if it was before anon mode where people where running private profiles on their steam account.
-1 -
I don't mind BM or banter - I've made a post about this in the past but I've been called slurs, told to off myself or in some cases had threats made against me or someone threatened to kill my dog by going through my post history. Quite certain none of those people are banned.
I'm all for a little bm - it doesn't bother me. I'm more so talking about when someone spreads hate in chat or makes it clear to harass or threaten someone they should immediately lose chat privilege. There's a few content creators atm that spread hate and I remember there has been a few times where BHVR has stepped up and had to go after them but they rarely choose to make an example out of bad actors.
Ultimately though I agree with one thing. If you have anon mode you shouldn't be able to see other names. Yes this has drawbacks for the user but I still feel like you should be able to engage with others to some degree. The alternative is if you choose to reveal someone's name then you reveal your name to them as well with a warning that this will happen. I also feel by default users should be able to hide anon mode chat if they are not in anon mode. I'm all for freedom of choice here.
I think PC is the only platform with anon mode. If anything console needs it much more than we do because they are easily raided with false reports compared to PC.

Moderation is a massive problem in DBD. Though personally, bad mouthing with less of a chance to get in trouble cus no one knows who you are is not cool. Thats gotta go. I shouldn't need to run Anon myself to avoid getting hated on cus of in game occurances, I want to connect with people converse respectfully and equally. Anonymous defeats that principle.

We both want the same thing which is civil discourse and conversation. Neutering anon mode won't change the outcome. BHVR needs to finally step up and overhaul their report system because it's trash and they rarely do anything from what I can tell.
I view the solution as
Replace the current strike system with two separate systems for both Chat and Gameplay
Having two systems means BHVR can be more heavy handed with chat disciplinary action without people having the excuse that a ban is too harsh and it would be unfair to punish someone on the game.
Add more options to players in and out of anon mode
Anonymous mode should hide all usernames and profiles - However you should have the option to reveal a username but by doing so you reveal your own profile. However if the user you are revealing has already left the lobby you should not be able to reveal their name as they wouldn't be given the option to reveal you.

I’ve had similarly terrible comments directed towards me in endgame chat and like you never had any response from BHVR after reporting them.
If they’re not going to ban for hateful speech like that, they should just do away with the postgame chat altogether so people don’t even have the opportunity to harass others that way.2 -
what about people who use anon mode snd show nothing but love but use anon mode so people can’t spread hate towards them? Why should they be punished?
1 -
Not everyone can use their Anonymous Mode

IMO Chatting should still be possible. But I would agree that you should not be able to view other peoples profiles or see their Nicknames when you turn on Anonymous Mode. After all, you should not have access to things you are hiding yourself.

As someone that uses anon mode I'm all for not seeing other players names/profiles. I'll miss out on some amusing gamertags but that's about it. I'm on console so no end game chat for me anyway, honestly don't see the point of it other than to keep people from jumping back into the queue.

It bums me out that this is even a discussion. On console, things are strict, and the banhammer falls heavy for just about any reason at all. But because things are so bad regardless, so many people have blocked messages from anyone outside their friends lists. More than half my attempts to send friendly messages are met with a privacy settings bounceback. Online gaming is a social thing and it would be nice to socialize without fear of nastiness.

….why?

iirc it is disabled on xbox because of rules set in place by microsoft. It was coded in and available to xbox initially, but microsoft said no so xbox players cannot hide their profiles from other xbox players they match with.
2 -
@jmwjmw27 is correct those on any Xbox cannot use their Anonymous Mode.
When it first rolled out to the consoles it was active on Xbox for like two weeks. Apparently yeah the way it was coded did violate some of Microsoft guidelines. It was then removed, and they said it won't be returning. 😑

I think the social aspect of gaming has been way too influenced by unrealistic expectations. It's mostly populated by young people or people that started when they were young, so you know you're gonna hear an earful. In addition, it's competitive so there's a lot of anger. I think expecting good nature with those conditions is a bit naïve. Not that it doesn't exist, but it isn't the most common. I think overall we'd be better off seeing the humor in the interactions, whether they're positive or not, and learning which battles to fight.
But at the same time, it's hard to argue the benefits of unbridled social interaction when you have to start arguing in favor of slurs and nasty comments. Maybe it's just a terminally online thing for those of us that don't mind.

I'm old enough to have seen multiple decades of volatility on the internet and I have thick skin. I don't care if some people (mostly kids) wanna be trash. I get nasty personal messages from other console players when I play killer, and I play fair. I can't imagine how much the dirty killers get, nor can I fathom what's been said about me in end game chat. But I don't really care either.
I just wish people weren't so burnt out by this behavior that I can't even thank someone for being chill or for saving me or whatever. I've met cool people I like playing with on this game, but it's hard to do that if everyone's settings are private or anon. I guess I'd rather have some censorship than complete isolation, as console is already pretty isolating with the advent of crossplay. Most people are automatically cut off from me.

How about making it separated options?
1 -
This is what i've been saying, great idea
-2 -
I'll never understand this community's fixation on persecuting anon players.
2 -
Being in anonymous mode does not make you anonymous to BHVR. Spreading hate as you put it is still reportable. BHVR knows who you are reporting. Stop acting like it doesn't.
