I see a lot of negativity towards this game recently and I wanted a chance to spread something positive and talk about my thoughts on the game. I've been playing on and off for a month and as a massive horror fan this game is a dream come true. It balances so well the horror and fun elements. The game is full of ambiance and charm. It is the type of game you can play for 15 minutes or several hours comfortably. I definitely prefer killer to survivor but what can I say I'm a former scare actor I like to bring the fear.

Does the game have problems? Sure. A few bugs here and there and survivors that are more interested in teabagging than surviving. But that is video games. Here are my killer rankings based on the ones I've used:

8. The hillbilly. Too slow and not my type of character. The chainsaw ability is cool though.

7. Huntress. Again not my type of lore or design. I didn't do great with her but in more skilled hands I'm sure she is devastating.

6. The nurse. Cool design and ability. Again didnt do great but im sure i just need more practice.

5. The trapper. This is a character I never expected to like but there is a charm to him. I love his design.

4. The doctor. Not sure if it was a fluke but this guy was devastating. My first time playing as him I got my first 4k. Definitely will be playing him more.

3. The wraith. Simple play style and an awesome design. Although I feel there is a massive disconnect to his design/abilities and his lore. I do love ringing the bell though.

2. The hag. One of the scariest looking characters who is a perfect repsentation of their lore. The ability is very useful especially to new players.

  1. Dracula. The only character I have purchased so far and easily my main. I'm a huge fan of the character and getting to play as the king of vampires is just an absolute dream. I love the shape shift abilities and am trying to learn his playstyle. I got a 4k with my last match so it is definitely coming together.

So what about you. How was the game when you got started. Who was your first main and has it changed?

When I first got the game in 2019, I got into Trapper and had a lot of fun learning new trap spots. For a short while after Deathslinger’s release, I mained him and Myers until I couldn’t handle not having mobility. Started maining Blight when he came out and now I main him and Wraith while playing variety killers occasionally.

On the survivor end I started on Meg for her perks then have stayed consistent on Ace.

Getting started in the game, on the killer side I found it really hard to judge how far my lunge goes, so I would commonly swing from too far away until I got used to it. On the survivor side I spent way too much time looking behind me and commonly ran into objects.

Now I have way too many hours and this is by far my most played game of all time.

I'm also a big horror fan, and also started as killer. I liked that there was a non-RE game where I could play as Wesker. He's still my main, hours-wise, but I like to bounce around. Dracula is another favorite. I also play as Doctor, and yeah, he is devastating. With certain perk builds he is a total nuisance to deal with.

It took awhile but I eventually started playing survivor and I find that role more light-hearted and funny. I go back and force between the two roles, a few matches as one, a few as the other. The team aspect of survivor is very appealing, as is outgoing someone with more imnate power than you.

Well the game was a lot harder as killer when I started:

    SBMM was not implemented yet.

    Killers were weaker in general.

    BT was not basekit yet.

DS could be used in endgame.

    Old dh was a thing.

At the start I lost a lot as killer because I played against people with 2k hours with 40 hours more often than not, but I kept going and got better and better until now. My first main was I blight I believe, but I always switched a lot - today my main is huntress, I just love to crossmap people xD

hey hey.. Billy was back then and honestly still is my all-time fave :D Curving is just too much fun, even if it doesn’t always make sense on certain structures. Huntress is the same for me – super fun to play. Nurse… well, Nurse is still Nurse. The strongest thing you can play, always my go-to whenever I just want some chill matches, even with all the bugs and glitches.

But yupp, those were also the killers I started with back in the day… there just wasn’t much choice at the time. Wraith was technically my first, mostly just to learn the basic M1 gameplay. But I quickly switched to killers with abilities that felt a bit more challenging/interesting for me.

I still really enjoy playing Spirit too. But tbh I just can’t get into most of the newer killers – guess I’m a bit stuck in nostalgia. I do play everything though (I think it’s super important to know the perspective of all killers). From the newer ones I actually like Sadako and Alien quite a lot. Pyramid Head and Pinhead (sadly weak) is also still a lot of fun.

Bugs and glitches are still a huge problem, servers are bad, hit reg is bad – but hey, it’s not a shooter, so don’t let that ruin the fun for you. Best advice: just try out all the killers at the start (newbie lobbies make it easier) and see who really clicks with you. Most important thing: just have fun :D

As someone with a background in FPS games, my first killer was the Huntress. Had no idea how to loop or those kinds of things, I just chucked hatchets in the general direction of the survivors.
I also had no idea that you could hold the hatchets to charge them.

Nowadays, 1400 hours later. While I am a survivor main, I do enjoy playing as the other side too. Maybe I am a bit too empathic at times, because I often let the survivors go after I have had my fun with them. But I have also enjoyed going for the killer adept achievements (4 kills with only the respective killer's perks). I need 9 to complete them all.

Oh I definetly had trouble with killer when I first started. I found it impressive if I could put one survivor on one hook in a match. This game has a learning curve for sure (I'm still working out the blood web system) but it is legitimately fun to learn. That is the best thing I can say about this game. It is really fun. I don't really care about rankings and stats, I just want to have a fun game. Also has anyone had what they would call a "true horror movie moment"? I remember one game as Drac a survivor was fixing a gen and I was in wolf form outside the window. I leapt through the window just as they turned and I downed them with a powerful lunge. I know it's simple but I love the slow mo when the wolf leaps through a window.

Glad you're having fun friend 😁🤘

My first killer was Pig, I bought the game specifically for Amanda, because I was riding a huge SAW high and had been looking at DBD for ages. Pig was great to.learn because even to this day she needs good fundamentals, and her slowdown gives you a lot of time to learn.

I remember watching numerous Pig guides from Skorpionz, Otz and few others before I dared play a game... and summarily forgot everything... my forest kill though was a Survivor running out of gate with an active RBT on their head... I've never seen this happen since xD

I've always maintained that a new players ignorance makes DBD intense and scary. The atmosphere is great as a new player, no one cares about getting the sweat bands on and looping like a God, you're scared and timid, hiding in a corner... it's a great feeling that I miss 😌

I literally hated VHS from day 1. Survivors getting basekit voice comms + map pings + survivors getting weapons to “fight back” = I hated the game on day 1.

I also hated the killer role in TCM, starting on day 1. I would play the survivor role, but I never wanted to queue as killer.

I meant DBD specifically. I agree though that VHS was boring and I only played Teen.

What I regret the most is not recoding my games when I started. I like to watch new players on Twitch and see how the react but I just can't remember how I was. The only thing that sticks in my mind is as soon as I would hear Huntress' lullaby I would get off my gen and hide because I thought it was the same as TR. As you can image I spent a lot of time hiding when I faced her.

Definitely some very interesting opinions here, some I agree with and some I'm surprised by. Thanks for sharing, it's always so cool to see new player perspectives!

I was not happy at all with the killer role when I first started the game.

My background is a lot of PvP games, which includes games where I’m shooting a lot of projectiles at moving targets, or throwing grenades at targets. Huntress is an absolutely miserable experience for new killer players. Her projectile is purposely clunky, and survivor movement in this game is absolutely ridiculous compared to every other PvP game I’ve ever played, and the FoV in this game is so bad that survivors would just disappear off my screen (much worse than any other PvP game I’ve played). And this game purposely hides survivor noises, even though the other PvP projectile games I play, either have visual footsteps, or the game just isn’t purposely hiding the noises.

So much of DBD game balance, revolves around the fact that the killer player experience is purposely clunky and inconvenient.

Its just players which are here 5+ years and they see devs make same mistakes again and again even vomunity and some content creators warn them and they still dont listen its like vicious circle like telling a child to not run on ice because he will get hurt but kid still do it over and over or not adjusting characters and perks with old effects to modern dbd like mayers, trapper, premonition etc.

That's a big part of it too. Being told you're heard but the results of being heard feel the same as not being heard.

Its like that legendary stream with carl actor from twd where there was ddos attack from cheater but people like otz suggested way how to counter it but got silenced by bhvr like child getting silenced by parent because they know better but thing like this didnt happen few times but way more and they are still happening today.
