Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Can I have a definition of tunneling? Im so confused

Was told I was tunneling, but according to the system I wasn't, according to my hooks I wasn't, so im just curious.

According to the player base, tunneling is going after the last hooked survivor with the intention of putting them back on the hook/removing them from the game no?

IIm Just so confused? Not angry or upset just... wha?

Tunneling at least the most accepted form is where you solely target someone out of the game, but what is considered Tunneling tends to be expanded. Now its Tunneling also if you double hook the same survivor in a row. Its also Tunneling if you say hook survivor a, then b, then a again to some survivors rather then spreading out your hooks. Generally some survivors are going to call you even remotely focusing them in the game Tunneling, but to my understanding its really only Tunneling if you solely focus them out of the game or hook them in a row. Anything else is just survivors crying. Though some killers rightly upset with the changes are going out of their way to tunnel each game as a form of protest so maybe the survivor was just on edge or something.

There's never really been an agreed definition of tunneling. Just like we all have general ideas on what gen rush, 3 genning, and camping are, but where the specific lines are blurry.

More importantly, if this was something in end game chat, its just people trolling.

I mean i would normally enjoy banter about this and ignore blatant toxicity, but like, I was just astounded saying the patch will kill me when it goes live, but im sitting here like, it wouldn't affect me?

Like you understand what I mean?

you can't please everybody; i had survivor insist that any killer who gives hatch is teaming and is reportable. that was the comment that made me stop caring about what people say/think and just do what I feel like because no matter how great and nice and awesome you are, someone somewhere will hate your guts

tunneling in a sensible sense would just be focusing someone specific. usually regardless of situation to get that person out of the game. its like trying to kill someone because they have ttv their name and only going after them.

in general its just going after the same person. like going after the last hooked or re-hooking on an unsafe unhook.

but i tend to use the term to describe purposeful toxic behavior

To me, hard tunneling is swerving on the other teammates to pursue that still injured, fresh unhook with the obvious intention of their speedy removal from the game. Soft tunneling is seeing a group and specifically choosing the last unhook to focus on.

I get accused of it too, usually when I find the last unhook, a whole minute later, fully healed, alone, and on a gen. It's wild to me, cause I'm so anti-tunnel.

Someone told me giving hatch/mercy is cruel because it makes the other survivors feel bad and wonder why they didn't deserve the mercy. That one blew my mind.

There is a lot on controversy around what is tunneling and what is not.

The most extreme form of tunneling is hard tunneling when a killer goes for person, and only one person, until they are out of the game.

There is "soft/tactical tunneling" that is when the killer goes between two and three survivors but tries to take someone out early as possible.

There is a video of Otzdarva discussing this issue:

Tunneling is hard to judge there are few scenarios like hard tunneling where killer goes after one survivor until that survivor is dead but in my opinion that depends how many gens are left, or killer finds injured surivor who was unhooked last in bad spot and its free down and hook so now he will be punished by doing either slug or getting another hook very stupid idea indeed, all depends how its tunneling down and whats the situation of the game, how many gens are done and what killer is played or how many hooks killer has compare to the gens but its hard to ask this here there are people claiming evryone who tunnels is low skill even calling comp kilers low skill.
